Chapter 8 - Chapter 8: Harrison’s Trap

Harrison was filled with arrogance and rage after being thrown out of the mansion. He would stop at nothing to destroy Lucian. He had hated Lucian for years—hated him for being the rightful heir to the family business, hated him for being respected even while "blind," hated him for having a wife who truly cared for him. Meanwhile, Harrison had nothing but greed and ambition.

Joining forces with the mysterious watcher was his last resort, a desperate gamble to take down Lucian completely. The watcher gave him information, revealing the truth that Lucian was only pretending to be blind, telling him about the danger Lucian was in. Harrison immediately planned a trap—one that would expose Lucian's secret, ruin his reputation, and take everything from him.

A week after Ella's father visited, Harrison came to the mansion again. This time, he was not alone. He brought several members of Lucian's family board—elderly, traditional men who had long doubted Lucian's ability to lead the family because of his "blindness." Harrison told them he had proof that Lucian had been lying all along. He was not blind at all. He had been tricking the entire family for years to seize power.

Security tried to stop him at the door, but Harrison forced his way in, shouting loudly to attract everyone's attention. "Lucian! Come out! I have something to say in front of the family board! You're a liar and a coward! Everyone deserves to know the truth!"

Ella sat in the living room. Her heart sank when she heard his shouts. She stood up abruptly, her hands shaking. Lucian walked into the living room, his expression calm, but Ella could feel the cold, suppressed anger around him. He reached out, took her hand, and squeezed it tightly, silently telling her to stay calm.

"Stay here," he said softly. "Say nothing. I'll handle everything."

Ella nodded, too frightened to move. Lucian walked toward the entrance, where Harrison and the board members were waiting. Ella quietly followed, hiding behind a pillar, watching with deep worry. She couldn't just stand aside.

Harrison looked at Lucian with contempt, pointing at him dramatically. "Look at him! Standing here, pretending to be blind, wearing that ridiculous blindfold! Lucian, you've lied to this family for years! You're not blind at all! You're a coward, hiding behind lies, holding onto the family's wealth!"

The board members murmured among themselves, staring at Lucian with suspicion and distrust. They had already doubted him, and Harrison's accusations were exactly what they had feared.

Lucian stood calmly, his expression unchanged, his hands relaxed at his sides. "Harrison, you have no proof. This is just a farce because you're jealous of what I have. You'll only embarrass yourself further."

"Proof? I have plenty of proof!" Harrison shouted. He pulled a photo out of his pocket and held it up for everyone to see. The photo showed Lucian in the hallway in the middle of the night, without his blindfold, talking to Ethan. The angle was hidden, clearly showing his sharp, clear eyes—no sign of blindness at all.

"Look everyone!" Harrison boasted, his tone arrogant. "This is the truth! He's perfectly healthy. He's been pretending to be blind for years to trick the family and seize power! He even lied to his own wife! A man like that doesn't deserve to lead the Lucian family, let alone be the heir!"

The board members erupted in shock. They crowded forward to look at the photo, their suspicion turning to anger and disappointment. The murmurs grew louder, filled with blame. Ella hid behind the pillar, her body cold, her hands clutching her clothes tightly, her heart pounding. She knew this time, Lucian's cover was completely blown. All secrets were exposed. They had no way out.

She expected Lucian to panic, to lose control. Anyone would break after years of disguise being exposed in public. But he still stood there, tall and straight, his expression terrifyingly calm, not a hint of panic. Even the corner of his mouth lifted into a faint, cold smile—a smile of knowing contempt, of absolute confidence.

"You think a secretly taken photo is enough to condemn me?" Lucian spoke slowly, his voice cold, with an awe-inspiring presence that overwhelmed the noise. "Harrison, you colluded with outsiders to sneak into my mansion and take photos, secretly united with the board to seize power, spread rumors about me and my wife. Did you really think I knew nothing about any of this?"

Harrison's face changed. He forced himself to remain calm. "You're lying! The photo is right there! How dare you deny it! You're a liar!"

"I'm not the liar here," Lucian said. He raised a hand. Ethan immediately stepped aside, holding a stack of documents and several audio recordings, handing them to the board members. "This is a recording of Harrison's private meetings with the watcher. It clearly records that, in order to seize power, he agreed to join forces to harm me, even planning to split the family business after success. And these are evidences of his embezzlement of company funds and illegal transactions. Every single item is recorded."

Ethan played the audio and showed the documents in an orderly manner. The clear sound and solid evidence shocked everyone present. Harrison's face turned pale, his legs weak, stepping back again and again, muttering "impossible," completely losing his arrogance.

As for pretending to be blind… Lucian slowly took off his blindfold. Those dark, sharp eyes were fully exposed in front of everyone. He looked at every person present, calm and dignified.

"I wasn't born blind. I was poisoned in an ambush years ago, my eyes severely injured. I had to pretend to be blind to heal and secretly find the traitor inside the family and external enemies. I did this not only to protect myself, but also to protect the family business from falling into the wrong hands. As for my wife… I protected her only because she's the one I want to guard, nothing to do with the original purpose of this marriage."

Looking at the solid evidence and Lucian's open manner, the board members immediately realized they had been used by Harrison. They looked at Harrison with anger and contempt. They immediately declared their full support for Lucian, completely stripping Harrison of all his rights in the family, leaving him to Lucian's mercy.

Harrison completely broke down. He was dragged out by security, with no ability to fight back. The watcher in the dark also exposed his tracks because of this operation. He was tracked down by Lucian's men and finally arrested. The long-hidden danger was finally completely eliminated.

The people at the entrance gradually left. The scene returned to silence, leaving only Lucian and Ella. Lucian turned around, looked at Ella hiding behind the pillar, and walked toward her step by step. The cold dignity in his eyes faded away, leaving only full tenderness and apology.

Ella walked out slowly, her eyes red. She looked at his real eyes—bright, deep, filled with love for her, no more secrets. All these days of doubts, unease, and fears all disappeared at this moment, leaving only relief and love.
