Chapter 5: The Starlit Graduation and the Maskless King

One Year Later. Aegis Prime.

The grand amphitheater of the Academy of Stars was a masterpiece of hard-light architecture. Forged from iridescent sapphire and silver density-glass, it sat at the highest point of Sector Two, entirely open to the eternal, gently pulsing starlit sky of the Sovereign's dimension.

Today, the amphitheater was packed to absolute capacity.

The Vanguard, the civilian militia, and the reformed citizens of the surface settlements had all gathered to witness a milestone. The first official graduating class trained entirely under the banner of the Swarm was stepping into the light.

Backstage, Class Zero stood in a tight circle.

Eri, Kota Izumi, and Katsuma Shimano were no longer the terrified children who had fallen into the abyss of the Oku-Hida mountains. They wore the crisp, dark, and streamlined tactical uniforms of full-fledged Vanguard Operatives. The violet butterfly insignia rested proudly over their hearts.

Kota adjusted his red visor, his hands steady. He looked at Eri.

"You nervous, Squad Leader?" Kota smirked, though there was a profound, unshakeable respect in his eyes. He hadn't forgotten the blinding golden light in the dark, or how she had stood between them and an army of nightmares.

Eri smiled, reaching up to gently touch the dormant horn on her forehead. "Not at all. We survived Ujiko's ghosts. A speech in front of a few thousand people is nothing."

Katsuma adjusted his collar, his datapad securely fastened to his wrist. "I heard the international heroes even tuned into the broadcast. Star and Stripe is watching from Washington."

"Let them watch," a gruff voice echoed from the doorway.

Shota Aizawa stepped into the staging area. His black eyepatch was sharply contrasted by the formal, dark suit he wore for the occasion. He looked at the three teenagers. He remembered finding them battered and exhausted in the ruins of the subterranean vault, having executed an impossible survival operation.

"You three mapped the frontier, you disabled a mass-extinction biological asset, and you held the line when the old world's rot tried to surface," Aizawa said, a rare, genuine smile touching his scarred face. "You aren't cadets anymore. You are the Vanguard. Now get out there and show them what the new world looks like."

The heavy sapphire doors hissed open, and Class Zero walked out into the amphitheater.

The roar of the crowd was deafening. Thousands of people cheered, a unified sound of absolute, unconditional support.

Standing at the grand podium in the center of the stage was Headmaster Toshinori Yagi.

He was still frail, his body encased in the Chronological Stasis Cradle that kept him permanently anchored to Aegis Prime. The faint, beautiful lines of iridescent blue and golden-yellow starlight pulsed gently beneath the skin of his hands and neck. But as he looked at Class Zero, his sunken blue eyes blazed with the undying, radiant warmth of the Golden Age.

"When I was a young man," Toshinori's voice echoed across the amphitheater, amplified by the hard-light acoustics, "I believed that a hero had to stand alone to protect the fragile peace of society. I believed that the sky was a burden meant for one pair of shoulders."

Toshinori looked out into the front row, locking eyes with Izuku Midoriya and Katsuki Bakugo, who were grinning with absolute pride.

"But the heroes of this new world taught me a different truth," the Headmaster continued, turning his gaze back to Eri, Kota, and Katsuma. "True peace is not a statue standing in the center of a city. True peace is a network. It is the willingness to reach into the dark and pull each other into the light. You three faced the echoes of the abyss. You did not break, and you did not leave each other behind."

Toshinori picked up three small, intricately forged silver badges—the official rank insignias of Vanguard Field Operatives.

"Eri. Kota. Katsuma," Toshinori said, his voice thick with emotion. "You are the first generation to be born of the starlight. Wear this crest, and never let the world forget how to smile."

Eri stepped forward, bowing her head as Toshinori pinned the silver crest to her uniform. She looked up at the frail, starlit man who had sacrificed his final hour of Prime strength to save the Emperor of Decay a year ago.

"Thank you, Headmaster," Eri whispered.

High up in the shadows of the amphitheater's upper rafters, completely hidden from the cheering crowd, two figures watched the ceremony.

Lady Nagant rested her standard, un-mutated sniper rifle against her shoulder. Beside her, Chizome Akaguro leaned against a pillar, his arms crossed.

"The kids did good," Nagant murmured, a faint smile on her lips. "Hope's Ridge is thriving. The copycats are locked up. The frontier is quiet."

Stain looked at the cheering crowd, his white eyes reflecting the starlight. He had spent his life purging false idols. Now, he was watching true heroes graduate in a heaven he was allowed to protect.

"The light is safe, Kaina," Stain rasped quietly, turning his back to the stage and walking deeper into the shadows. "Let us return to the perimeter. The hounds have work to do."

Nagant nodded, melting into the darkness behind him. The shadows watched the light, content to remain exactly where they were needed.

The Sovereign's Spire.

Miles away from the amphitheater, at the absolute apex of Aegis Prime, Rei Arata stood on his private observation balcony.

He wore a simple white sweater, his hands resting on the hard-light railing. The silver moth-mask, the terrifying visage of the Winged Sovereign, was nowhere to be seen. It was locked away in a drawer in his quarters.

He didn't need to be a god of judgment today. He was just Rei.

He watched the massive holographic projections in the sky broadcasting the graduation ceremony. He saw Eri smiling. He saw Midoriya and Bakugo cheering from the front row. He felt the gentle, peaceful thrum of the Omni-Weave connecting the half a million heartbeats in his dimension.

The door to the balcony hissed open behind him.

"You missed a hell of a speech, Boss," Hawks said, strolling onto the balcony with a relaxed grin.

"I heard every word, Keigo," Rei replied softly, not turning his gaze from the broadcasting holograms. "Toshinori has a gift for words. And Eri... she has grown into a remarkable leader."

"She's a Swarm kid through and through," Hawks agreed, leaning on the railing beside him. He looked at Rei's unmasked face. The pale teenager looked rested. The dark circles under his eyes had faded. The cosmic fire in his chest was no longer a roaring, defensive inferno; it was a steady, eternal, and comforting hearth.

"You know, the UN Secretary-General is asking for another summit next month," Hawks mentioned casually. "They want to discuss expanding the surface agricultural zones using Akio's tech. They're actually asking for our permission this time."

"Tell them the Vanguard will review their proposal," Rei smiled faintly.

Rei looked up at the iridescent, shifting colors of the Astral Nexus. He thought of the journey. The blood in the alleyways of Hosu. The terrifying expansion of the domain. The apocalyptic clash against the Emperor of Decay on the Pacific coastline.

They had faced the end of the world, and they had refused to let it fall.

"We did it, Keigo," Rei whispered, the finality of the statement settling over him like a warm blanket.

Hawks looked at his King, a profound respect shining in his golden eyes. "Yeah, we did. The sky is safe, Rei."

Rei Arata closed his eyes, listening to the distant, joyous cheers echoing from the amphitheater miles below. He felt the connection of his empire. He felt the peace of a world that had finally learned how to heal.

He was the Winged Sovereign. But he was no longer alone.

He was the Swarm. And the dawn was beautiful.

The End.
