Aria's POV
Derek was in the war room when I got there, sitting at the table like it was any other morning, coffee in hand, tablet open, completely calm.
He looked up when I walked in and something in my face must have told him everything because he put the coffee down slowly and sat back in his chair.
"Tell me it's all a lie." I said slowly.
"You found the folder,"
"Where is she?" I asked. "Where did Serena go?"
"I don't know."
"Derek."
"I genuinely don't know, Aria." He met my eyes and he looked tired in a way that had nothing to do with last night. "I didn't know she had those documents. I didn't know she was going to run."
Lucian came through the door behind me. He looked at Derek and his expression went very still.
"Tell me it's not true," Lucian said.
"I can't tell you that." Derek looked at him. "I can tell you it's more complicated than those documents make it look but I can't tell you it's not true."
