Chapter 5 - You Lost the Right

Amelia's POV

His eyes were fixed on the paper in the nurse's hand. Then slowly, very slow his gaze lifted to meet mine. My heart pounded nonstop in my chest of all places in the world… Why did it have to be in the hospital?

The nurse looked between us in confusion. "Do you two know each other?" She asked, Daniel did not answer immediately instead he stepped into the room, his sharp gaze never leaving my face.

"What result is that?" He asked the nurse his voice was calm but I knew him well enough to hear the tension beneath it. The nurse hesitated for a moment before pointing towards me.

"It belongs to Miss Amelia Hart." Daniel's eyes darkened without asking permission he reached out and took the paper from the nurse's hand "Daniel…" I started but it was already too late. His eyes scanned the result. Positive for a brief second the color drained from his face the room felt too small, too suffocating Mia stood up from the chair beside me.

"Hey," she said sharply. "You can not just take…" Daniel ignored her instead he grabbed my wrist firmly. "Amelia come with me," before I could react. He pulled me out of the examination room and into a quiet corner of the hallway. "Daniel let go of me!" I snapped and he released my wrist but stepped closer lowering his voice.

"Is it mine?" The bluntness of the question made my chest tighten. I stared at him in disbelief. Do you really have the audacity to ask that? His jaw tightened.

"Answer the question for a moment," he growled. I could not speak.

Just yesterday this man had divorced me as if I had done something unforgivable.

My fingers slowly clenched into fists.

"Yes," I said quietly. Daniel ran a hand through his hair clearly frustrated then his expression hardened.

But that's not possible the doctor clearly said you can't get pregnant.

"How come you're pregnant."

Miracle I said softly.

"Listen carefully I won't repeat myself," he said something about his tone that made my stomach drop.

"I'm with Sophia now," my heart sank.

"And?"

I asked bitterly and this pregnancy… he continued, lowering his voice even more this child you're carrying is a problem that word hit me like a slap.

No one needed to tell me. I knew my child was nothing more than a problem to him.

"You need to deal with or get rid of it," he said coldly.

For a moment I could not believe what I was hearing.

"Get rid of it?" I repeated

"I will compensate you," Daniel continued quickly "whatever you need: money, an apartment, just name it."

Sophia must not know about this.

"Stop!" my voice trembled but I forced myself to stay strong. He frowned slightly.

"I'm serious Amelia, don't ruin my relationship with Sophia with this. Our marriage is already…"

Before he could finish his sentence I gave him a slap, the pain in my heart grew sharper with the words he had said.

This was the man I once loved. The man I believed would protect me and now he was asking me to erase our child, as if it meant nothing I took a slow breath then I looked him directly in the eyes.

"Do you really think money can solve this?"

His silence answer was the right response. I smiled bitterly at him.

"You have not changed at all Daniel," his brows furrowed at my sharp words.

"What does that mean?"

"It means," I said calmly, "you lost every single right to be this child's father the moment you chose someone else."

For the first time Daniel looked slightly shaken but I wasn't finished yet… "don't worry" I continued my voice steadier, "now this child will never need you."

His eyes narrowed.

"Amelia…"

I snatched the result paper from his hand.

"I will raise my baby without your help."

My heart was still breaking but I refused to let him see it.

"You and Sophia can live your perfect life together."

Then I turned and walked away. Each step felt heavier than the last, but I did not stop until I reached Mia. She looked at my face and immediately understood something had happened.

"What did he say?" She asked quietly. I forced a small smile,

"Nothing important."

But just as we began walking toward the hospital exit.

"Daniel?" A familiar female voice suddenly called out from behind us.

I froze. Mia stopped beside me slowly. I turned my head standing near the hallway entrance was Sophia. Her eyes moved between Daniel and me the tension in the air became unbearable.
