Chapter 5 - Part 5 — The Secret We Chose

After that day, everything changed—not outside, but inside. Inside me, inside her, inside us. Now it wasn't just about meeting on the terrace anymore, it was about hiding, waiting, and risking everything just to see each other. "Come on Saturday…" that one line stayed in my mind the whole week. Every hour felt longer, every night felt restless. I kept thinking—what if she doesn't come, what if something goes wrong, what if her mom finds out? But deep down, I knew she would come… because I would.

Saturday finally arrived. The whole day I acted normal, but inside everything was chaos. By evening, the sky turned orange and then slowly darker. This time it wasn't morning—it was riskier, quieter, more dangerous. I walked towards the terrace carefully, making sure no one noticed. Every small sound felt louder. Every step felt risky.

When I reached the terrace, she was already there… waiting.

For a moment, we just looked at each other. No smiles, no words—just that same feeling, stronger than before.

"You came…" I said softly.

She nodded. "You too…"

We stood closer than before, not by accident but by choice. The silence between us wasn't awkward anymore, it was real, filled with things we didn't say but both understood.

"Are you scared?" I asked.

She looked away. "…yes."

"But you still came."

She looked at me again, this time without hesitation. "I wanted to."

That one sentence hit deep. For a moment, everything else disappeared—fear, risk, consequences… everything. The wind was cold, and she wrapped her arms around herself slightly.

"Cold?" I asked.

She nodded.

There was a pause, and then slowly, without thinking too much, I reached out and held her hand. For the first time. She didn't pull away. She didn't react. She just stood there, letting it happen. Her hand was cold but soft, and in that moment, everything around us went silent. It felt real.

But suddenly, a loud sound broke everything—the main gate opening.

We both froze.

She quickly pulled her hand back, her face filled with panic. "Mom…" she whispered.

This time, it wasn't just fear—it was danger.

"What do we do?" I asked.

"She wasn't supposed to come this early…" her voice was shaking.

Footsteps. Fast. Getting closer.

We didn't have time.

"Go!" she said suddenly.

"What?"

"Go from the back stairs—now!"

I hesitated for a second. "But you—"

"Just go!" she whispered urgently.

I didn't argue. I ran towards the back stairs, every step feeling like I would be caught any second. My heart was beating so loud I thought the whole house could hear it. Just as I reached the turn, I heard her mother's voice—closer than ever.

"Ammy! Where were you?"

I stopped, hidden, listening.

"I… I was on the terrace," she replied, trying to sound normal.

"Alone?"

A long pause.

My heart stopped.

"…yes."

I closed my eyes. She lied. For me.

I didn't wait anymore. I quietly went down to my room, acting like nothing happened, but inside everything had changed. That night, I couldn't sleep. Her words kept repeating in my mind—"I wanted to…" and "…yes."

She knew the risk. She knew the consequences. And still, she chose to come. She chose me.

And maybe, for the first time, I realized—this wasn't one-sided anymore.

But at the same time, a new fear started growing inside me.

Because now I knew—

If we get caught, we won't just lose moments… we might lose everything.

And maybe… that moment wasn't far.
