Alex opened his eyes to dark storm clouds, gently falling rain and a 13 year old girl.
"My Lady!" Alex sat up quickly, wincing in pain as his body recalled the explosion he had survived. Looking around he saw the bodies of his comrades, burned beyond recognition. They had been His friends but now they were dead.
Alexandrite Autumnleaf stood up. His half-elf body screamed at him. His muscles were sore and stiff. A small shiver ran down his spine as the rain continued to bounce off his armor. He looked at Clarissa as she hugged herself trying to ward off the cool, wet, night air, and reached for his bag.
Reaching into The Satchel of Infinite Storage he retrieved his cloak. Wrapping it around his shivering charge he picked her up and carried her to the wreckage of the carriage.
Once out of the rain he pulled out a small red crystal and placing it in a small ceramic bowl he poured mana into it.
The flame crystal flickered to life as warmth filled the overturned carriage.
Clarissa, wrapped in his cloak snuggled closer to him for comfort before slowly drifting off to sleep.
She was cute. Her father would kill him if he didn't bring her home safely. Keeping this in mind he began to think.
Someone wanted Clarissa dead and they would go to any length to finish the job. However now he had the advantage because they thought he was dead.
