The meeting notice arrived at six forty-seven in the morning.
Kendrick read it twice before he got out of bed.
Emergency session. Walker Corporation board of directors. Thursday, 9 a.m. Agenda: Leadership continuity and strategic direction. Attendance mandatory.
Not requested. Mandatory.
He set his phone down on the nightstand.
Picked it up again.
Read it a third time.
Then he got up, made coffee, and called his lawyer.
Daniel Marsh had been Walker Corporation's legal counsel for nineteen years. He answered on the second ring, which meant he'd already seen the notice.
"Tell me what I'm walking into," Kendrick said.
"Officially? A routine governance review." A pause. "Unofficially—"
"Daniel."
"Your father filed the agenda personally. Not through the board secretary. Personally." Another pause. "He also submitted a supplementary document last night. I haven't seen the full contents but my contact inside says it's a leadership assessment."
"Of me."
