Chapter 32 - The Queen and the Nerd

The entire living room had gone quiet.

Music still played from the speakers, but no one was dancing anymore.

Everyone was watching.

Vanessa stood confidently in the middle of the room like she owned it.

Her arms were folded, her expensive heels clicking softly against the floor as she slowly stepped forward.

Chelsea didn't move.

Adrian stood slightly in front of her, his expression calm but sharp.

Vanessa noticed immediately.

Her lips curved into a mocking smile.

"Still protecting her?" she said loudly.

Several students whispered among themselves.

Leo leaned toward Marcus and whispered, "This is getting intense."

Marcus nodded.

"Very."

Ethan stayed silent, his eyes carefully watching the situation.

Vanessa's gaze shifted back to Chelsea.

"You know what's funny?" she said, her voice dripping with sarcasm.

Chelsea raised an eyebrow.

"No, but I'm sure you're about to tell me."

A few people in the crowd chuckled quietly.

Vanessa's smile tightened.

"What's funny," she continued, "is that a girl like you thinks she belongs here."

Chelsea tilted her head slightly.

"A party?"

"Yes," Vanessa snapped. "This party. This school. This group."

She gestured around dramatically.

"You're a bookworm. A nerd. Someone who hides behind textbooks."

Chelsea remained calm.

"And?"

Vanessa laughed.

"And girls like you don't suddenly walk in and start stealing attention."

Chelsea blinked slowly.

"I'm not stealing anything."

Vanessa's eyes flashed.

"Really?"

She pointed toward Adrian.

"Then why is he suddenly following you around?"

The room filled with murmurs.

Chelsea crossed her arms.

"You should probably ask him that."

Vanessa's jaw tightened.

Adrian sighed quietly.

"You're making a scene," he said.

Vanessa turned toward him.

"Of course I am."

Her voice was sharp.

"You've ignored me for weeks."

Marcus whispered to Leo, "Here we go."

Vanessa stepped closer to Adrian.

"You used to pay attention to me."

Adrian shrugged casually.

"Things change."

Vanessa's expression darkened.

"Yes. They do."

She turned back toward Chelsea.

"And it started when she showed up."

Chelsea sighed.

"This is ridiculous."

Vanessa laughed.

"You think so?"

Her eyes glittered dangerously.

"Let's ask everyone here."

She turned to the crowd.

"Who thinks Chelsea belongs here?"

The room went silent.

Students looked at each other nervously.

No one answered.

Vanessa smirked.

"Exactly."

Chelsea felt her chest tighten slightly.

But she refused to look intimidated.

She stepped forward.

"You know what I think?"

Vanessa raised an eyebrow.

"What?"

Chelsea's voice was calm but sharp.

"I think you're used to getting whatever you want."

Vanessa's smile faded.

"And?"

Chelsea shrugged.

"And now you're angry because someone told you no."

A few students gasped softly.

Leo whispered loudly, "Ohhh she said it."

Marcus covered his mouth to stop himself from laughing.

Vanessa stared at Chelsea like she had just been slapped.

"You think this is about rejection?" Vanessa said slowly.

Chelsea nodded.

"It's obvious."

Vanessa's eyes darkened.

"You have no idea who you're talking to."

Chelsea shrugged again.

"Someone insecure."

The room erupted in whispers.

Vanessa's face turned red.

Ryan stepped forward slightly.

"Vanessa—"

But Vanessa raised her hand.

"No."

Her eyes never left Chelsea.

"You think you're brave," she said quietly.

Chelsea didn't reply.

Vanessa suddenly stepped closer.

"So let me make something very clear."

Her voice dropped cold.

"This school has a hierarchy."

Chelsea stared at her calmly.

"And?"

"And people like you don't climb it."

Chelsea sighed again.

"You're exhausting."

Before Vanessa could reply

Adrian suddenly spoke.

"That's enough."

His voice wasn't loud.

But it carried authority.

The room went quiet again.

Vanessa turned toward him slowly.

"You're defending her again."

Adrian shrugged.

"You're being ridiculous again."

A few people laughed nervously.

Vanessa looked furious.

"You always do this," she snapped.

"You act like you don't care about anything!"

Adrian's expression didn't change.

"Because most of this doesn't matter."

Vanessa laughed bitterly.

"Oh it matters."

Her eyes flicked toward Chelsea again.

"Because this girl thinks she can take my place."

Chelsea immediately replied.

"I don't want your place."

Vanessa smirked.

"Then stay away from him."

Chelsea glanced briefly at Adrian.

Then looked back at Vanessa.

"No."

The room went silent again.

Vanessa blinked.

"…What?"

Chelsea's voice stayed calm.

"I said no."

Vanessa stared at her like she couldn't believe what she heard.

Chelsea continued.

"You don't get to control who people talk to."

Vanessa's voice dropped dangerously.

"You're testing my patience."

Chelsea shrugged.

"Then maybe you should stop threatening people."

Ryan leaned toward Cole and whispered, "She's fearless."

Cole nodded slowly.

"Or crazy."

Vanessa suddenly laughed.

A cold laugh.

"You know what?"

She took a step back.

"You can have your moment tonight."

Chelsea frowned slightly.

Vanessa's smile returned.

"But this isn't over."

She looked directly into Chelsea's eyes.

"Not even close."

Then Vanessa turned and walked toward the door.

Ryan and Cole followed her.

The moment she left

The entire room exploded with noise.

Leo shouted dramatically.

"THAT WAS INSANE!"

Marcus laughed loudly.

"Chelsea just destroyed Vanessa!"

Students began whispering everywhere.

Some looked impressed.

Others looked shocked.

Chelsea exhaled slowly.

"That was unnecessary."

Adrian looked at her.

"You handled it."

Chelsea glanced at him.

"She's going to make my life miserable now."

Adrian shrugged.

"She already was."

Chelsea rolled her eyes.

"You're very comforting."

Adrian smirked slightly.

"You're stubborn."

Chelsea looked at him.

"You started this."

Adrian leaned closer slightly.

"No."

His voice was calm.

"You did."

Chelsea frowned.

"What does that mean?"

But Adrian just turned and walked toward the patio again.

Leaving Chelsea standing there.

Confused.

And strangely curious.
