Chapter 1 - Dream Well

Volume I — The Whispering Well

The village of Eldoria sat quietly between ancient forests and silver rivers, hidden from the rest of the world like a secret someone had forgotten to tell. Wooden cottages lined narrow dirt roads, their chimneys releasing thin ribbons of smoke into the cool morning air. Life in Eldoria was simple and predictable. The same bells rang each morning, the same farmers walked the same fields, and the same stories were told beside the same fires.

But there was one story the villagers spoke of only in whispers.

The story of the Dream Well.

It stood beyond the edge of the village behind the ruins of a forgotten temple. Moss-covered stones surrounded it like silent guardians, and ancient vines crawled along the cracked pillars of the broken sanctuary.

No one knew who built it.

No one knew how old it was.

But everyone knew the rule:

Never look into the well at midnight.

The villagers believed the well could show people their deepest dreams. Some claimed it granted wishes. Others insisted it cursed those who dared approach it.

Children were warned about it before they even learned to read.

And yet, for Lena Arwyn, the story of the Dream Well had always been more fascinating than frightening.

Lena was sixteen years old, with dark hair that rarely stayed tied back and bright gray eyes that seemed constantly filled with questions. While most people in Eldoria were content with the quiet life of the village, Lena felt as though the world had something more waiting for her somewhere beyond the forests.

She often climbed the tallest hill near the village just to watch the horizon.

Sometimes she wondered what lay beyond it.

Cities? Kingdoms? Entire worlds?

Her grandmother would always laugh when Lena talked about leaving.

"Adventure belongs in books," she would say while stirring soup over the fire. "Real life is much quieter."

But Lena loved books more than anything. Their pages carried her to distant lands where heroes fought dragons and explorers discovered hidden worlds.

Deep down, she believed those kinds of stories had to be real somewhere.

One late afternoon, as golden sunlight spilled through the attic windows of her grandmother's house, Lena was helping clean through old boxes filled with dusty memories.

Her grandmother, Elira, moved slowly but carefully through the clutter.

"Your grandfather collected too many things," she muttered.

Lena paused.

Her grandfather was rarely mentioned. The few times she had asked about him, her grandmother's answers had always been vague.

"He was a dreamer," Elira would say.

But tonight Lena found something that made her heart race.

Inside an old wooden chest lay a leather journal wrapped in cloth.

The cover was worn and faded, but the pages inside were filled with detailed drawings and notes written in careful ink.

Lena flipped through them curiously.

There were sketches of the ancient temple ruins outside the village.

And the well.

Page after page described strange symbols carved into its stone walls.

The final page held a sentence written in darker ink, as though the writer had pressed the pen harder than usual.

"The Dream Well does not grant dreams."

"It reveals the path to them."

Lena felt a strange chill run through her.

"Grandmother?" she asked. "Did grandfather write this?"

Elira turned.

The moment she saw the journal, her face went pale.

She crossed the room quickly and took it from Lena's hands.

"You shouldn't read that."

"Why not?"

Her grandmother hesitated.

"Because some curiosities lead people into places they cannot return from."

Lena frowned.

"You mean the well?"

Elira carefully wrapped the journal again and placed it back in the chest.

"Promise me you won't go near it."

Lena hesitated.

"Why?"

Her grandmother looked toward the attic window where the forest stretched dark and endless beyond the fields.

"Because your grandfather didn't come back."

That night Lena lay awake in bed staring at the ceiling.

The wind whispered softly outside.

The story repeated in her mind.

Her grandfather had gone to the Dream Well.

And disappeared.

But the words in the journal kept echoing in her thoughts.

The Dream Well reveals the path to dreams.

What if the villagers were wrong?

What if the well wasn't dangerous?

What if it was a doorway?

The village clock struck eleven.

Then midnight.

Before Lena realized what she was doing, she was already pulling on her boots.

The forest path was quiet beneath the moonlight.

Silver beams filtered through the tall trees as Lena walked deeper into the woods. The farther she traveled, the quieter the world seemed to become.

Even the wind stopped moving.

Soon the ruins appeared ahead.

Broken stone pillars rose from the earth like the bones of some ancient creature. The temple walls had long ago collapsed, leaving only fragments of its former shape.

At the center of the ruins stood the Dream Well.

Lena approached slowly.

The well looked older than anything she had ever seen. Thick moss covered its stones, and faint carvings circled its outer rim.

The air felt strange here.

Almost alive.

Her heart pounded.

This was the moment every story warned about.

But curiosity was stronger than fear.

She stepped forward and leaned over the edge.

At first she saw nothing but darkness.

Then the water moved.

Ripples spread across its surface without any wind.

Slowly, faint light appeared beneath the black water.

Shapes formed like reflections of another world.

Lena gasped.

She saw a massive city floating in the sky.

Towering spires made of crystal.

Bridges connecting drifting islands of land.

The sky shimmered with swirling colors like living northern lights.

Then she saw something else.

Someone standing before a glowing silver gate.

A girl.

With dark hair.

And gray eyes.

Herself.

Lena stepped back in shock.

Suddenly a voice filled her mind.

Not loud.

Not threatening.

Just calm.

"Your dream has been seen."

The ground trembled.

The well glowed brighter.

The light expanded until it surrounded Lena completely.

She tried to step away—

But the stones beneath her feet crumbled.

The world tilted.

And she fell.

Down into the Dream Well.

Darkness swallowed everything.

For a moment there was only silence.

Then—

Light exploded around her.

Lena expected cold water.

Instead she landed softly on warm grass.

She opened her eyes slowly.

Above her stretched a sky unlike anything she had ever seen.

Colors moved across it like waves of glowing paint.

Floating islands drifted through the air.

Some carried forests.

Others held entire cities.

And far in the distance stood a massive tower of black stone piercing the sky.

Lena slowly stood up.

"Where am I…?"

A voice behind her answered.

"You're somewhere you're not supposed to be."

Lena turned quickly.

A boy sat on a fallen tree nearby watching her with cautious curiosity.

He looked about her age, with messy dark hair and a worn coat that had clearly seen years of travel.

"Welcome," he said.

"To Somnara."

"The world beneath dreams."

Lena stared at him.

"This… is a dream?"

The boy shook his head.

"No."

His eyes drifted toward the distant black tower.

"It's where dreams come from."

And somewhere deep beneath them—

The Dream Well shimmered quietly.

Still watching.

Still waiting.

For the next dreamer to fall.

Volume II — The World Beneath Dreams

For several seconds after the boy spoke, Lena simply stared at him.

The grass beneath her feet felt real. The wind brushing against her face felt real. Even the strange sky above—painted with glowing ribbons of violet and gold—felt impossibly vivid.

"This isn't possible," she whispered.

The boy shrugged.

"That's what everyone says the first time."

He jumped down from the fallen tree and walked closer, studying her like someone trying to solve a puzzle.

"You fell from the well, didn't you?"

Lena blinked.

"The Dream Well?"

"Of course the Dream Well." He crossed his arms. "People don't exactly drop out of the sky every day."

Lena looked around again.

Floating islands drifted lazily through the air. Some were covered in forests with trees made of glass-like leaves. Others carried ruins or strange structures that glowed softly.

The air smelled like rain and flowers.

"Where am I?" she asked.

The boy pointed upward at the endless sky.

"Somnara."

Lena repeated the name slowly.

"Som… nara."

"The world beneath dreams," he explained. "Every dream humans have ever imagined exists here in some form."

Lena laughed nervously.

"That sounds ridiculous."

The boy grinned.

"Then look behind you."

She turned.

At the edge of the field stood something extraordinary.

A massive creature made entirely of shimmering light grazed peacefully among glowing flowers. Its body looked like a mixture of deer and dragon, with delicate wings that sparkled like frost.

"What is that?"

"A dream," the boy said simply.

Lena stared in amazement.

"Someone dreamed of it?"

"Exactly."

He extended his hand.

"I'm Kai."

Lena shook it slowly.

"Lena."

Kai nodded.

"First time here?"

"Yes."

"That's obvious."

She frowned.

"What's that supposed to mean?"

Kai pointed at her clothes.

"You're still wearing normal-world boots. Everyone who's been here longer learns pretty quickly that Somnara ruins things like that."

Lena noticed his coat again. It looked patched together from pieces of fabric that didn't quite belong together.

"How long have you been here?"

Kai's smile faded slightly.

"A while."

"That doesn't answer the question."

"Long enough."

Lena's heart skipped.

"You mean… you can't leave?"

Kai didn't answer right away.

Instead, he walked toward a nearby hill and motioned for her to follow.

After a moment, Lena did.

When they reached the top, she finally saw the full landscape of Somnara.

And it took her breath away.

Below them stretched an entire world suspended in the sky.

Floating islands of different sizes drifted through the air like giant ships on an invisible ocean. Bridges made of glowing threads connected some of them.

Cities of crystal towers shone in the distance.

Waterfalls poured off the edges of islands and vanished into clouds below.

It was beautiful.

But something else caught Lena's attention.

Several islands were broken apart.

Chunks of land floated separately like shattered pieces of glass.

In the distance, dark smoke rose into the sky.

"What happened there?" she asked.

Kai followed her gaze.

His expression darkened.

"That's where dreams are dying."

"Dying?"

"Somnara isn't stable anymore," he said quietly. "It's been falling apart for years."

Lena felt a chill.

"But why?"

Kai pointed toward the horizon.

Far away stood a massive black tower.

It was taller than any structure Lena had ever seen. Dark clouds spiraled around it like a storm that never moved.

Even from miles away, it looked menacing.

"That's why."

"What is it?"

Kai spoke the name carefully, almost reluctantly.

"The Night King."

Lena felt a strange heaviness in the air the moment the name was spoken.

"He rules the darker parts of Somnara," Kai continued. "The places where nightmares grow."

"You mean he's… a monster?"

Kai shook his head.

"No."

"What do you mean 'no'?"

"He's human."

Lena blinked.

"That's worse."

Kai sighed.

"He came here the same way we did. Through the Dream Well."

"But how could a human destroy dreams?"

Kai kicked a stone down the hill.

"Because Somnara feeds on emotions. Dreams create things here. Hope builds cities. Imagination creates creatures."

"And fear?"

Kai looked back toward the black tower.

"Fear creates nightmares."

They stood in silence for a moment.

Then Lena spoke quietly.

"You said we."

Kai looked at her.

"You and me."

"You mean you fell into the well too?"

"Years ago."

"How many?"

Kai hesitated.

"I stopped counting."

The weight of that answer settled heavily between them.

"So you're trapped here?" Lena asked.

Kai shrugged.

"Maybe."

"That's not very comforting."

He laughed softly.

"You'll get used to it."

"I don't want to get used to it."

Lena looked up at the sky again, searching for something familiar.

"There has to be a way back."

Kai studied her.

"Maybe."

"Maybe?"

"There are legends."

"What kind of legends?"

Kai pointed toward another distant island where something bright shone like a star.

"The Silver Gate."

"What's that?"

"They say it protects the Heart of Dreams."

"And that is?"

"The source of everything here," he said. "All dreams start there."

Lena's mind raced.

"If we find it, maybe it can send me home."

Kai smiled faintly.

"Optimistic."

"You sound like you've tried."

"I have."

"And?"

Kai didn't answer.

Instead he started walking.

"Come on."

"Where are we going?"

"To meet the others."

"Others?"

Kai glanced back at her.

"You didn't think you were the only one who fell in, did you?"

They traveled across the floating island for nearly an hour.

As they walked, Lena noticed strange things about Somnara.

Flowers glowed faintly when she touched them.

Birds made of folded paper flew overhead.

At one point they passed a tree with golden leaves that whispered softly.

"Did that tree just talk?" Lena asked.

Kai nodded casually.

"Someone probably dreamed about a talking tree."

"That's oddly specific."

"You'd be surprised what people dream."

Eventually they reached a stone bridge connecting their island to another.

This island was larger and filled with structures that looked partly mechanical and partly magical.

Metal towers rose beside glowing crystals.

Strange machines hovered in the air.

Standing beside one of them was a girl adjusting a set of spinning gears.

She wore goggles and had streaks of grease across her cheeks.

"Kai!" she shouted when she saw him.

"You're back!"

"Obviously."

She noticed Lena immediately.

"And you brought a new one!"

Lena waved awkwardly.

"Hi."

The girl ran over excitedly.

"I'm Mira," she said quickly. "Welcome to Somnara!"

"You're surprisingly cheerful for someone stuck in a dream world."

Mira grinned.

"I built half of this place."

"You what?"

She pointed proudly at the machines around them.

"My dreams were always about inventing things. So Somnara turned them into reality."

Kai leaned closer to Lena and whispered:

"She hasn't slept in three days trying to make a flying ship."

"It's almost finished," Mira snapped.

"Sure it is."

Before Lena could ask more questions, a deep voice spoke behind them.

"You brought another dreamer."

They turned.

A tall man stepped out from the shadows of a nearby structure.

He carried a sword strapped across his back.

His expression was serious but calm.

"I'm Dorian," he said.

Lena nodded politely.

"Lena."

Dorian looked toward the distant black tower.

"You came at a dangerous time."

"What do you mean?"

Kai answered before Dorian could.

"The Night King has been expanding his territory."

Mira sighed.

"Three islands vanished last week."

Lena felt a knot tighten in her stomach.

"You mean he destroyed them?"

"Not exactly," Dorian said.

"They collapse when their dreams fade."

"Why would dreams fade?"

Kai looked directly at her.

"Because people in your world are starting to lose hope."

The words hit Lena harder than she expected.

"Then we have to stop him."

Dorian studied her carefully.

"You speak like someone chosen by Somnara."

"What does that mean?"

Kai suddenly looked thoughtful.

"Wait."

"What?"

"Did you see anything before you fell in?"

Lena hesitated.

"A city… floating islands… and a silver gate."

The three others exchanged glances.

Mira's eyes widened.

"You saw the Silver Gate?"

"Yes."

Kai whispered slowly:

"Then it's true."

"What is?"

Dorian answered.

"The well doesn't show random dreams."

"It shows destiny."

Lena felt the world tilt slightly.

"You're saying… I'm supposed to find it?"

Kai nodded.

"And if the Night King reaches it first…"

Mira finished the sentence quietly.

"Somnara will belong to nightmares forever."

A distant rumble echoed across the sky.

They all looked toward the black tower.

Dark clouds spiraled faster.

For the first time since arriving in Somnara, Lena felt real fear.

Somewhere out there was someone powerful enough to destroy dreams themselves.

And somehow—

She had become part of the story.

Dorian rested his hand on his sword.

"We don't have much time."

Kai looked at Lena.

"Ready for an adventure?"

Lena stared at the impossible world around her.

The floating islands.

The glowing sky.

The distant darkness rising from the black tower.

Her life in Eldoria suddenly felt very far away.

She took a deep breath.

"Yes."

Kai smiled.

"Good."

Because far across Somnara—

Inside the black tower—

A pair of dark eyes slowly opened.

The Night King had felt the arrival of a new dreamer.

And something about this one was different.

Very different.

For the first time in years—

He smiled.

Volume III — The Dream Hunters

The sky above Somnara changed constantly.

One moment it shimmered with colors like liquid starlight, and the next it darkened beneath drifting clouds shaped by distant dreams. Lena had been in Somnara only a short time, yet already the world felt impossibly alive—like it was breathing, thinking, reacting.

And sometimes watching.

She stood beside Kai on the edge of Mira's floating island, staring toward the distant horizon where the black tower rose like a scar across the sky.

"You're thinking about him again," Kai said.

"The Night King?"

Kai nodded.

"You should."

"That's comforting."

Kai shrugged. "Fear keeps people alive."

Behind them, Mira's machines clanked and hummed as she tightened bolts on a strange metallic structure that hovered slightly above the ground.

Dorian stood nearby sharpening his sword with slow, careful movements.

The small camp they had built felt temporary—like a group of travelers preparing for a long journey.

Which, Lena realized, they were.

Mira suddenly jumped down from the machine and wiped grease from her hands.

"Done!"

Kai glanced over.

"You say that every hour."

"But this time it's true!"

Lena walked closer and examined the strange device.

It looked like a small boat made of metal and crystal, with glowing runes carved along its sides. Instead of sails, spinning rings of light hovered above it.

"What is it?" Lena asked.

Mira grinned proudly.

"A dream glider."

"A what?"

"It lets us travel between floating islands."

Kai raised an eyebrow.

"You mean the thing that nearly exploded yesterday?"

"That was a minor miscalculation."

Dorian stepped closer.

"Will it hold four people?"

Mira crossed her arms.

"It will hold six."

Kai smirked.

"Good to know we have room for two ghosts."

Lena laughed nervously.

"Are we actually going to use it?"

Kai looked back toward the horizon again.

"If we're going to reach the Silver Gate, we need to move faster."

Dorian nodded.

"The Night King's territory spreads every day."

Mira climbed into the glider and began adjusting the glowing rings.

"Then let's stop talking about it and start flying."

Across the Dreamlands

The moment the dream glider lifted into the air, Lena felt like her heart might burst from excitement.

Wind rushed through her hair as the floating island drifted away beneath them.

Below stretched the vast, surreal world of Somnara.

They passed over forests where the trees glowed with soft blue light. Some bent and twisted into shapes that looked almost human, as if they were reaching toward the sky.

Farther ahead lay a desert made of pale golden sand.

But something about it was strange.

"What's that place?" Lena asked.

Kai followed her gaze.

"The Desert of Forgotten Dreams."

"Forgotten dreams?"

"Dreams people once had… but abandoned."

The sand shifted strangely below them.

Shapes formed and disappeared like shadows buried beneath the dunes.

"What happens to them?" Lena asked quietly.

Kai's voice grew softer.

"They fade."

The words lingered in the air.

Lena suddenly realized something terrifying.

If people stopped dreaming entirely…

Somnara would vanish.

They flew farther.

Soon the desert ended, replaced by a dense forest so dark it looked like night itself.

Even from above, Lena felt uneasy.

"What about that place?"

Kai sighed.

"The Nightmare Forest."

"I'm guessing that one's bad."

"Very."

As if the forest sensed them watching, the trees moved.

Branches twisted like claws.

A low growl echoed from somewhere below.

Mira quickly steered the glider higher.

"We are definitely not landing there."

The City of Memories

By the time the glowing sky began to dim toward evening, they reached another floating island.

This one was enormous.

At its center stood a sprawling city made entirely of glass-like structures.

Tall towers reflected the shifting colors of the sky, creating thousands of moving lights across the streets.

"Where are we?" Lena asked.

Dorian spoke first.

"The City of Memories."

They landed the glider on a wide stone platform.

As Lena stepped into the city, she immediately felt something strange.

The air here was heavy.

Not dangerous.

Just… emotional.

People walked slowly through the streets, but they weren't exactly people.

Some looked translucent.

Others seemed partially faded.

"Are they dreams?" Lena whispered.

Kai shook his head.

"Memories."

The figures moved through the city silently, replaying moments from lives somewhere in the human world.

A child running through a field.

A soldier hugging his family goodbye.

Two friends laughing beside a river.

Mira lowered her voice.

"Every strong memory creates an echo here."

Lena watched one of the figures carefully.

A young girl was sitting beneath a tree reading a book.

The moment repeated over and over like a loop.

"That's… beautiful," Lena said.

"And sad," Kai replied.

"Why sad?"

"Because the real moment already passed."

Dorian suddenly stopped walking.

"Someone's here."

They all turned.

Standing at the end of the street was a small child watching them.

The child looked about eight years old, with pale hair and large silver eyes.

"What are you doing here?" Mira asked gently.

The child stepped closer.

"I've been waiting."

"For us?" Lena asked.

The child nodded.

"For you."

Lena felt a strange chill.

"Who are you?"

"My name is Elo."

Kai crouched slightly to meet the child's eyes.

"How long have you been here, Elo?"

Elo tilted their head thoughtfully.

"A long time."

"What are you doing in the City of Memories alone?"

Elo pointed toward Lena.

"I was waiting for her."

Lena's heart skipped.

"Why?"

Elo's silver eyes seemed to glow faintly.

"Because I can see dreams."

Mira crossed her arms.

"That's not unusual here."

Elo shook their head.

"I can see future dreams."

The group fell silent.

Kai spoke carefully.

"You mean… the future?"

Elo nodded again.

"And what did you see?" Lena asked.

The child looked toward the distant horizon.

"The Night King is coming."

Dorian tightened his grip on his sword.

"How soon?"

"Soon."

Elo then turned back to Lena.

"And he's looking for you."

The Night King Watches

Far across Somnara, inside the towering black fortress, silence ruled the halls.

The Black Tower stretched high into the clouds, its walls carved from dark stone that seemed to absorb light.

Inside its highest chamber stood a throne.

Seated upon it was a man dressed in black armor.

His eyes glowed faintly like distant stars buried in shadow.

The Night King.

A servant approached carefully.

"My lord."

"Yes?"

"A new dreamer has entered Somnara."

The Night King already knew.

He had felt it the moment Lena fell through the Dream Well.

"What do we know about her?" he asked calmly.

"She travels with the wanderer Kai, the inventor Mira, and the warrior Dorian."

The Night King leaned forward slightly.

"And?"

"She has seen the Silver Gate."

For the first time in years, the Night King's expression changed.

Interest.

"So the well has chosen again."

He stood slowly and walked toward the massive window overlooking Somnara.

Dark clouds moved across the sky below.

"Prepare the hunters."

"Yes, my lord."

"And send them to the City of Memories."

The servant bowed.

As the chamber doors closed, the Night King stared into the distance.

Somewhere out there was the girl chosen by the Dream Well.

The girl who might reach the Heart of Dreams.

Or destroy it.

He smiled faintly.

"Let's see what kind of dreamer you are."

The Hunters Begin

Back in the City of Memories, the sky suddenly darkened.

Kai looked up immediately.

"That's not good."

Dorian drew his sword.

"What is it?"

Elo whispered the answer.

"They've found us."

Black shapes appeared in the sky.

Creatures with enormous wings and glowing red eyes circled above the city.

Nightmares.

The Night King's hunters.

Mira ran toward the glider.

"We need to leave now!"

Kai grabbed Lena's arm.

"Welcome to Somnara."

The first nightmare dove from the sky.

And the Dream Hunters began to run.

Volume IV — The Night King

The sky over the City of Memories shattered with a scream.

A nightmare dove from the clouds like a living shadow.

Its wings were enormous, black and ragged like torn cloth. Its body twisted unnaturally as if it had been formed from broken pieces of many different creatures. Red eyes burned inside a skull-shaped face.

Lena froze.

"RUN!" Kai shouted.

The streets erupted into chaos.

The memory-figures around them flickered violently as the nightmares descended. Some of the echoes shattered into fragments of light as the creatures' claws tore through the air.

Mira sprinted toward the dream glider.

"I told you we should've left sooner!"

Dorian stepped in front of the group, sword flashing from its sheath.

"Get to the glider!"

The first nightmare lunged.

Dorian swung.

His blade cut through its wing with a burst of black mist. The creature shrieked, its body dissolving into smoke before reforming again.

Lena's heart pounded.

"They don't die!"

"They're nightmares," Kai yelled. "Fear keeps them alive!"

Three more dropped from the sky.

Kai grabbed Lena's wrist and pulled her forward.

"Move!"

They ran across the plaza as shadows tore through the buildings around them.

Mira had already powered up the glider. The glowing rings above it spun wildly as the machine hummed with energy.

"Get in!"

Dorian leapt aboard first, turning to slash at another nightmare midair.

Kai pushed Lena into the seat beside him.

"Hold on."

A creature slammed onto the edge of the glider.

Its claws scraped metal as it crawled toward them.

Mira slammed a lever forward.

The dream glider shot upward.

The nightmare lost its grip and tumbled into the city below.

More creatures swarmed the sky.

But Mira steered the glider into a narrow canyon between floating islands.

The nightmares smashed against rock formations as the glider twisted through impossible turns.

After several minutes of breathless flying, the monsters finally disappeared behind them.

Silence returned.

Mira exhaled dramatically.

"Well."

"That could've gone better," Kai muttered.

Lena looked back at the fading city.

"They were sent by the Night King."

Dorian nodded grimly.

"He knows you're here now."

The Mirror Mountains

They flew for hours through the drifting islands of Somnara.

Eventually the landscape changed again.

Massive mountains appeared ahead, rising like frozen waves above the clouds.

Their surfaces shimmered like glass.

"What are those?" Lena asked.

Kai's voice lowered.

"The Mirror Mountains."

"Why are they called that?"

"You'll see."

They landed the glider at the base of one towering peak.

The mountain surface reflected everything perfectly.

Lena approached cautiously.

Her reflection stared back from the shining stone.

But something was wrong.

The reflection didn't move exactly when she did.

It moved a moment later.

Then it spoke.

"You're afraid."

Lena stumbled backward.

"What—"

Kai grabbed her shoulder.

"Don't listen to it."

More reflections appeared across the mountain walls.

Each showed a different version of Lena.

One looked older.

Another looked exhausted.

One looked completely hopeless.

"They show your fears," Mira explained quietly.

"Everyone who crosses the Mirror Mountains must face them."

The reflections spoke again.

"You'll fail."

"You'll lose your friends."

"The Night King will win."

Lena clenched her fists.

"Stop."

But the voices only grew louder.

"You're not strong enough."

"You're just a girl from a small village."

Kai stepped beside her.

"They're lying."

"How do you know?"

"Because they said the same things to me once."

Dorian walked forward toward the mountain path.

"We don't have time for doubts."

He pointed upward.

A narrow trail wound between the mirrored cliffs.

"On the other side lies the Silver Gate."

Lena took a deep breath.

Then she started climbing.

The Shadow Arrives

Halfway through the mountains, the air suddenly grew cold.

A strange silence fell across the path.

Even the wind stopped.

Kai slowed.

"Do you feel that?"

Dorian nodded.

"Yes."

Elo spoke softly.

"He's here."

The temperature dropped further.

Dark mist rolled down from the mountain peaks.

Then a voice echoed through the canyon.

Calm.

Cold.

Ancient.

"You've traveled far, little dreamers."

A figure stepped from the mist.

Tall.

Dressed in black armor etched with faint glowing cracks like frozen lightning.

His eyes glowed faintly in the shadow of his hood.

The Night King.

Lena felt her breath catch.

He didn't look like a monster.

He looked human.

Almost peaceful.

But the darkness surrounding him felt immense.

Kai stepped forward cautiously.

"You came personally."

The Night King's gaze moved slowly across the group.

"Yes."

His eyes finally settled on Lena.

"So you are the one the well has chosen."

Lena forced herself to stand straight.

"You sent those nightmares."

"Of course."

"Why?"

The Night King tilted his head slightly.

"To see what kind of dreamer you were."

"And?"

"You survived."

He took a step closer.

The shadows around him twisted like living smoke.

"You've come seeking the Heart of Dreams."

Lena didn't answer.

"You believe you can save Somnara."

His voice carried no anger.

Only certainty.

"But dreams are fragile things."

"They break easily."

Dorian raised his sword.

"Step away from her."

The Night King didn't even glance at him.

"Do you know why this world is collapsing?" he asked Lena.

She shook her head.

"Because humans dream less every year."

The words echoed through the mountains.

"Hope fades. Imagination fades."

"And when dreams disappear…"

He gestured to the distant floating islands.

"…so does this world."

Kai stepped forward.

"Then why are you destroying it faster?"

The Night King's expression darkened slightly.

"Because dreams are lies."

Lena frowned.

"That's not true."

"They promise greatness."

His voice grew colder.

"But reality delivers pain."

For a moment, the darkness around him flickered.

Lena saw something unexpected in his eyes.

Sadness.

"You came through the Dream Well too," she realized.

"Yes."

"Then you once believed in dreams."

The Night King's silence confirmed it.

"What happened?" Lena asked.

His gaze drifted toward the sky.

"Long ago… I dreamed of saving people."

His voice became distant.

"I believed hope could change the world."

"And then?"

"Reality destroyed that dream."

The darkness around him surged.

"So I built a world without hope."

Kai whispered quietly.

"You became the Night King."

The man nodded slowly.

"And now I will claim the Heart of Dreams itself."

He looked back at Lena.

"The well chose you."

"But you are not the first."

He stepped closer.

"And you will not succeed where others failed."

Dorian charged.

His sword swung toward the Night King's chest.

But the blade stopped inches away.

Frozen in midair.

The Night King hadn't even moved.

With a flick of his hand, Dorian was thrown across the mountain path.

Kai drew his dagger.

Mira activated a glowing weapon from her belt.

But Lena raised her hand.

"Wait."

Everyone froze.

She stepped forward slowly.

"If dreams are lies…"

Her voice trembled slightly.

"Why are you still fighting so hard?"

The Night King stared at her.

For a moment, the darkness around him faltered.

Then his expression hardened again.

"Because I know the truth."

"What truth?"

"That dreams only lead to suffering."

He turned away.

"But I will show you soon enough."

The shadow around him swallowed his form.

Within seconds—

He vanished.

Silence returned to the mountains.

Kai helped Dorian stand.

"Well," he muttered.

"That went badly."

Mira looked at Lena.

"What did he mean about the Heart of Dreams?"

Elo answered quietly.

"He's going there."

Lena turned toward the final mountain peak.

Beyond it, faint silver light glowed in the sky.

The Silver Gate.

And somewhere beyond it—

The Heart of Dreams itself.

She took a deep breath.

"We have to reach it first."

Volume V — The Heart of Dreams

The final peak of the Mirror Mountains rose above the clouds like the edge of the world.

Lena stood at the top beside Kai, Mira, Dorian, and Elo, staring at the breathtaking sight before them.

Suspended in the sky beyond the mountains was a massive floating island made of silver stone. Light poured from its center like sunlight breaking through storm clouds.

At the island's entrance stood a gigantic gate.

Two towering doors made of glowing metal stretched hundreds of feet into the sky.

The Silver Gate.

And behind it—

The Heart of Dreams.

For a moment none of them spoke.

Even the wind seemed to quiet as if the entire world was holding its breath.

"So," Kai finally said softly, "that's it."

Lena nodded.

"That's where everything begins."

They crossed the final stone bridge leading toward the island.

The closer they moved, the brighter the air became. Soft light drifted around them like floating sparks.

Lena felt something strange in her chest.

A warmth.

Almost like the island itself recognized her.

Elo walked quietly beside her.

"It knows you're here."

"What does?"

"The Heart."

Dorian placed his hand on the gate.

The silver surface hummed gently.

"Locked," he said.

Mira examined the carvings along the doors.

"These symbols… they look like dream patterns."

Kai stepped forward.

"Maybe it opens only for someone chosen by the well."

He looked at Lena.

"Try."

Lena hesitated.

The enormous gate loomed above her like a silent guardian.

Her hands trembled slightly as she stepped forward.

"What if I'm not ready?"

Kai smiled gently.

"No one ever is."

Lena placed her palm against the silver surface.

For a moment nothing happened.

Then the entire gate began to glow.

Light spread across the carvings like rivers of fire.

The ground vibrated.

With a deep echoing sound—

The Silver Gate opened.

The Heart of Dreams

Beyond the gate lay a vast chamber carved into the center of the island.

At its heart floated a sphere of pure light.

It pulsed slowly like a living star.

Streams of glowing energy flowed from it into the sky above, spreading across Somnara like veins of light.

The Heart of Dreams.

Lena stepped closer.

Images began forming inside the glowing sphere.

Thousands of dreams.

Children imagining adventures.

Artists painting impossible worlds.

Inventors building machines that didn't yet exist.

Dreams of courage.

Dreams of love.

Dreams of hope.

"This is incredible," Mira whispered.

"Every dream ever imagined," Dorian added.

Kai smiled faintly.

"Somnara's source."

But then the light flickered.

A shadow spread across the chamber.

Lena turned slowly.

Standing in the entrance behind them was the Night King.

"You opened it," he said calmly.

Kai drew his dagger immediately.

"You followed us."

"Of course."

The Night King stepped inside.

Darkness spilled across the floor with every step he took.

"Thank you for doing the difficult part."

Dorian stepped between him and the Heart.

"You won't touch it."

The Night King simply raised his hand.

A wave of shadow knocked Dorian back against the wall.

Mira fired a beam of glowing energy from her device.

The Night King absorbed it effortlessly.

Kai charged next.

But the moment he reached the Night King, the shadows wrapped around him and pinned him to the ground.

Within seconds all of them were trapped.

All except Lena.

The Night King walked slowly toward the Heart of Dreams.

"You see?" he said softly.

"Dreams always end the same way."

"Broken."

Lena stood between him and the glowing sphere.

"You're wrong."

The Night King stopped.

"You still believe that?"

"Yes."

He studied her quietly.

"You remind me of someone."

"Who?"

"Myself."

Lena blinked.

"Before I learned the truth."

He turned toward the Heart again.

"Once I believed dreams could save people."

"And they can."

"No."

His voice hardened.

"They create false hope."

He reached out toward the glowing sphere.

"Once this power is mine, Somnara will finally be free from illusion."

Lena stepped forward.

"If you destroy dreams…"

She gestured toward the world outside.

"…everything dies."

The Night King paused.

"Not dies."

He looked back at her.

"Ends peacefully."

Lena shook her head.

"That's not peace."

"Then what is?"

"Hope."

The word echoed through the chamber.

The Heart of Dreams pulsed brighter.

The Night King's expression darkened.

"Hope leads to disappointment."

"Sometimes."

"Sometimes?" he repeated.

"Yes."

Lena's voice grew stronger.

"Dreams don't always come true."

The shadows around him stirred violently.

"But that doesn't make them worthless."

The Heart glowed brighter.

Images filled the chamber.

A young boy building a wooden sword.

A girl practicing music late at night.

A scientist working endlessly to solve a problem.

Millions of dreams.

Some fulfilled.

Some broken.

All powerful.

The Night King stared at them.

For the first time—

His confidence wavered.

"You think this proves something?"

"Yes."

"What?"

"That dreams matter even when they fail."

The light from the Heart surrounded Lena completely.

She reached toward it.

The moment her hand touched the glowing sphere—

Somnara exploded with light.

The floating islands brightened.

The sky burst into color.

Across the entire dream world, fading lands began rebuilding themselves.

The Night King staggered backward.

"What have you done?"

"I didn't destroy your darkness," Lena said quietly.

"I reminded the world how to dream."

The shadows around him weakened.

He looked at the Heart again.

Then slowly…

Memories appeared around him.

His own dreams.

A younger version of himself helping people.

Saving villages.

Believing in hope.

The darkness cracked.

The Night King dropped to one knee.

"I… forgot."

Lena stepped closer.

"You didn't forget."

"You were hurt."

Silence filled the chamber.

Finally the Night King looked up.

"What happens now?"

Lena looked at the Heart of Dreams.

"Someone has to protect it."

Kai suddenly spoke from behind her.

"I will."

The shadows released him as the Heart's light spread through the chamber.

Kai stood slowly.

"You saved Somnara," he told Lena.

"Now let me protect it."

"You can't stay here forever," she said.

Kai smiled.

"I already have."

Mira and Dorian stood as the last of the shadows disappeared.

Elo walked quietly toward the Heart.

"The future changed."

Lena turned back to Kai.

"You'll watch over the dreams?"

"Someone has to."

She hugged him tightly.

"Thank you."

Kai looked at the glowing sky above.

"Tell your world something."

"What?"

"Don't stop dreaming."

The Return

Lena woke beside the Dream Well.

Morning sunlight filtered through the forest.

For a moment she wondered if everything had been a dream.

But when she leaned over the well—

The water shimmered.

Far below, she saw the floating islands of Somnara glowing brighter than ever.

And standing beside the Silver Gate—

Kai.

Watching the world.

Protecting dreams.

Lena smiled.

Back in Eldoria, life slowly returned to normal.

But Lena was different now.

She had seen what dreams could create.

And what happened when people stopped believing in them.

Years later, travelers passing through Eldoria would sometimes see a young woman standing beside the ancient well.

Whenever someone asked about it, she would tell them the truth.

"The Dream Well doesn't grant wishes."

"It shows you the path to your dreams."

And somewhere deep beneath the surface—

Somnara continued to grow.

Brighter.

Stronger.

Because no matter how many dreams break…

Humanity always finds the courage to dream again.
