From the shadows of a crumbling corner, a head peeked out. It belonged to a youth of seventeen or eighteen with raven-black hair. His face was etched with a cold, sharp composure, and his eyes flickered with a restless, guarded intensity.

A piercing cry tore through the heavens. As if struck by a sudden jolt, the black-haired youth instantly yanked his head back into the darkness.
The moment he retreated, a colossal shadow swept over the ruins like a sudden gale. A massive bird of prey, boasting a wingspan of nearly six meters, soared past. Its brown feathers shimmered with a metallic, steel-like luster under the sun, and a long, elegant crest trailed from its head.
In the world of Pokémon, this formidable creature was known as a Pidgeot.
"Talk about petty. I only took one of its eggs—is it really worth chasing me this hard?" Once the Pidgeot had faded into the distance, the youth poked his head out again, muttering a dry complaint.
Despite his grumbling, he carefully swung his backpack around. Inside lay three eggs, each the size of a football, their shells etched with distinct, intricate patterns.
"This Shinx egg... I can raise this one well. It'll be a powerful partner in the future," he whispered, pulling out the egg covered in jagged, lightning-bolt markings.
He had stolen this specific egg from a dominant Luxray. Its potential was beyond question.
As for the remaining two, one belonged to a Pidgey and the other to a Pichu. The Pidgey egg was destined for the market; after all, being a Pokémon Trainer was an expensive endeavor.
He gave the Shinx egg a satisfied pat before carefully tucking it back into his bag. With everything secured, he stood up and unclipped a sophisticated Ultra Ball from his belt. He tossed it into the air, and the sphere clicked open mid-flight.
Whoosh!
A blinding flash of crimson light shot out like a bolt of lightning. In the blink of an eye, the light coalesced into a towering, majestic avian of midnight blue and black.
Its powerful wings spanned six meters, casting a shadow like a gathering storm cloud. Its talons were razor-sharp, glinting with a cold light that suggested they could shred steel as easily as paper. Its beak, pointed and lethal as a broadsword, radiated a chilling aura.
"GAA!!!"
The moment the beast appeared, it threw its head back and let out a deafening roar. The sound echoed through the sky, its sheer momentum no less imposing than the Pidgeot's earlier cry. A wave of invisible pressure rippled outward, causing the very air to vibrate and instilling an instinctive sense of awe in any who watched.
"Corviknight, quiet down! Do you want to lure that stupid bird back here?" The youth caught the returning Ultra Ball and clipped it back to his waist, shooting his partner an exasperated look.
This was indeed a Corviknight.
It looked as though it were encased in a suit of blackened armor. In reality, it was a massive raven whose feathers had tempered into living steel. When it banked through the sky, the sun caught its plumage in a display of "iridescent black"—a dark, shimmering rainbow. Its crimson eyes were pools of pure intimidation, narrowed and fierce.
This was the youth's starter Pokémon, currently at the Elite Rank.
The youth's name was Zhao Xuan, a traveler from another world.
As for how he ended up here, Zhao Xuan didn't really know. He had simply gone to sleep and woken up in this utterly ridiculous world.
Why "ridiculous"? Because in the years Zhao Xuan had spent here, he realized this wasn't just a world of Pokémon—it was a world of the supernatural, haunted by ghosts and "weirdness." Moreover, it was a fusion of various cinematic universes.
Over the years, he had encountered numerous characters he recognized from his previous life's TV shows. For instance, one of his cousins was a character from the show The Time is Just Right. His good friend, Qiao Yingzi, was the female lead from A Little Reunion.
But the most important aspect of this world was the Secret Realms. These dimensions were filled with Pokémon and heavenly treasures.
According to the history books, these realms began appearing as far back as the Qin Dynasty. Legend says that Qin Shi Huang unified the six kingdoms only after obtaining a Black Rayquaza. Since then, the world had revolved around Pokémon, giving rise to various professions—though the "Trainer" remained the undisputed mainstream path.
Everything else—Breeders, Doctors, Researchers—was considered support.
The Secret Realms also contained ruins of advanced civilizations, yielding technology like the Spatial Backpack Zhao Xuan currently wore. Without it, there was no way he could have fit three massive eggs in a standard bag.
Becoming a true Trainer wasn't easy, however. First, you needed a "Starter." In this world, a starter wasn't something you simply caught or bought; it had to be Summoned. That was the fundamental law of this reality.
The Starter was the cornerstone of a person's life. Once the first Pokémon was summoned, every time it broke through to a new rank, it would feedback energy to the Trainer, granting them superhuman strength and speed.
This was vital for survival. Pokémon battles weren't a game; without a toughened physique, the mere shockwaves of a high-level battle could kill a human. Thousands of Trainers died in the Secret Realms every year.
Of course, those who couldn't summon a starter could still keep Pokémon as pets—it was common in daily life—but those were usually Pokémon with poor potential. High-aptitude Pokémon cost millions, a price tag far beyond the reach of an ordinary family.

Zhao Xuan crouched low on Corviknight's back, one hand gripping the steel-like feathers as the wind whipped past his face.
"Corviknight," Zhao Xuan said, looking out at the vast blue horizon. "Once we sell this haul, you'll have enough resources to break through to the Gym Leader Rank."
"Gaa! Gaa!" Corviknight let out an excited cry, its wings beating faster.
Half an hour later, a shimmering gate of light appeared ahead—the exit of the Secret Realm.
"Finally, time's up," Zhao Xuan murmured to himself. "Corviknight, let's go home."

With a final burst of speed, Corviknight carried Zhao Xuan through the portal and out of the wilds.
