Chapter 3: Club Fair Catastrophe

The next morning Zain woke to the soft chime of his system alarm and the smell of his mother's paratha sizzling downstairs. He stretched, grinning at the ceiling like an idiot. Level two. Bra strap incident survived. Three girls already orbiting him. Life was good.

[Daily Quest Updated: Expand the Circle – Day 2]

Objective: Secure club membership and gain affection from at least one new target.

Reward: 300 EXP, Club Skill Unlock, +2 CHA

Failure: None (but missing out on club-room ecchi scenes is its own punishment)

"System, you read my mind," he muttered, rolling out of bed. He threw on his uniform, checked his reflection—tie deliberately loose for maximum cool factor—and headed downstairs. His parents were already at the table, Dad reading a Japanese newspaper while Mom packed another bento loaded with yesterday's leftover spicy chicken.

"Beta, you came home smiling yesterday," Mom said, eyes twinkling. "Made friends already?"

Zain shoveled paratha into his mouth. "More than friends, Ammi. This school is paradise."

Dad chuckled. "Just remember to study too. No chasing girls only."

Too late, Dad. The harem route is already speed-running.

The walk to school felt electric. Cherry blossoms still danced in the breeze, but Zain's senses were sharper now. He activated Observe on every girl he passed, stacking mental notes like trading cards.

[Observe: Random Senpai]

Level 5 | Track Club Ace | Affection: 0% | Hidden: Secretly Loves Spicy Food

He smirked. Data was power.

At the gates, the entire school buzzed. Banners fluttered everywhere: "Spring Club Fair Today!" Booths lined the courtyard—Light Music Club with guitars and keyboards, Camping Club roasting marshmallows over a portable stove, Drama Club practicing dramatic poses, even a mysterious Occult Research Club with black curtains and fake blood.

Zain's inner Issei screamed. Club room access equals private time equals skinship opportunities! Jackpot!

Sawako was waiting near the shoe lockers, fidgeting with her bag. The moment she saw him her face lit up like sunrise.

"Z-Zain-kun! Good morning."

"Morning, Sawako-chan." He leaned in just enough to make her blush. "Saved a seat for you in class. And I brought extra chicken—thought we could share at lunch again."

She clutched her bag tighter, nodding so fast her hair bounced. "I-I'd like that very much."

[Sawako Affection +7% – Current: 45% – "He remembered…"]

They walked inside together, shoulders brushing. Whispers followed them down the hall. Zain caught Kyoko Hori and Taiga Aisaka waiting by the classroom door. Hori had her arms crossed, apron still peeking from her bag like always. Taiga glared, but the glare softened a fraction when she saw the bento in his hand.

"New guy," Hori called. "You weren't kidding about the chicken. Smells dangerous from here."

Taiga sniffed. "If it's too spicy I'm blaming you, pervert."

Zain laughed. "Challenge accepted, Tiger-chan."

Taiga's eye twitched at the nickname but she didn't correct him. Progress.

Inside Class 2-A the teacher announced the club fair would run all afternoon. Students were free to visit booths and sign up. Zain's mind raced—perfect chance to drag his growing circle into something fun.

During morning classes he kept Observe running nonstop. Kaguya Shinomiya sat three rows back, silver hair gleaming, pretending to take notes while clearly plotting something. Chika Fujiwara bounced in her seat like an excited puppy. Tohru Honda smiled gently at everyone who passed. Even Yotsuba from the elementary-adjacent wing had snuck in somehow, waving at him from the doorway.

This world is cheating. Every single best girl in one school.

Lunch on the rooftop became an impromptu party. Sawako, Hori, and Taiga joined him. Zain spread the bento like a feast. Hori took one bite and her eyes widened.

"Okay, Pakistan spice is no joke. This is actually good."

Taiga stole three pieces before anyone could stop her. "Not bad… for a transfer student."

Sawako ate quietly beside him, their pinkies brushing once. Every tiny touch sent affection pings flying.

[Group Affection Milestone Reached!]

[Party Formed: Sakura High Harem Seed – Level 1]

The real chaos started after lunch.

The courtyard had transformed. Music blared from the Light Music Club stage where a girl with light brown hair and a guitar—clearly Mio from the K-On! crew—sang nervously while her friends cheered. Camping Club had set up tents. Drama Club performed a short skit about a cursed love letter.

Zain dragged his group straight to the Light Music Club booth. "We should join something together. Team bonding, right?"

Hori raised an eyebrow. "You play anything?"

"Air guitar like a pro," he said, striking a pose that made Taiga snort.

Sawako tugged his sleeve. "I… I can play piano a little. From when I was small."

"Perfect!" Zain declared. "We're forming the ultimate band."

Before they could sign anything, Chika Fujiwara appeared out of nowhere, pink hair ribbons bouncing.

"New transfer boy! I heard you're from Pakistan! Do you have camels? Can you do magic tricks? Join the Student Council instead—we have cake every meeting!"

Kaguya Shinomiya followed at a dignified pace, arms crossed. "Chika, stop harassing the new student. Though…" Her sharp eyes scanned Zain. "You do seem… interesting. The council could use fresh blood."

Zain's CHA stat kicked into overdrive. He flashed his most charming grin. "Two beautiful ojou-samas inviting me personally? How can I refuse? But we were thinking music club—"

A commotion erupted at the Camping Club tent. Yotsuba had somehow tangled herself in guy ropes, giggling wildly while a gentle girl with braided hair—Chiaki from Laid-Back Camp—tried to free her.

"Help! I'm a camping mummy!" Yotsuba laughed.

Zain rushed over without thinking, helping untangle the energetic girl. Their hands brushed. Yotsuba beamed up at him.

"You're strong! And tall! Are you new? Let's go camping together!"

[New Target Acquired: Yotsuba Affection +12%]

[Bonus Quest Progress: +1 New Female Contact]

Before he could answer, a shadow fell over the courtyard.

The sky flickered—just for a heartbeat—with that same crimson edge he had ignored yesterday. Students shivered as if a cold wind had passed, but no one else seemed to notice. Zain's system pinged urgently.

[Dimensional Ripple Intensifying]

[Minor Entity Approaching – Threat Level: Low]

Quest Update: First Blood (Optional)

Objective: Investigate and eliminate the stray threat before it reaches the fair.

Reward: 400 EXP, Basic Ghoul Resistance Fragment, Title: Secret Guardian

Failure: Public panic + possible classmate injury

Zain's stomach tightened. He glanced at the girls laughing around him—Sawako's shy smile, Hori's teasing smirk, Taiga's tsundere huff, Chika's boundless energy, Kaguya's calculating gaze, Yotsuba's pure sunshine. No way he was letting some leaked horror monster ruin this.

He forced a grin. "Hey, I'll be right back—forgot something in class. Save me a tent spot, okay?"

Sawako tilted her head. "Are you sure? You look… worried."

"Totally fine!" He gave her a thumbs-up. "Just need to grab my lucky guitar pick or whatever. Be back in five!"

He slipped away toward the edge of the courtyard, heart pounding. Behind a row of vending machines he activated the new skill he had earned yesterday.

Stealth Mode (Lv.1) engaged. His footsteps went silent.

The ripple led him to the old storage shed behind the gym. The door hung slightly open. Inside, a low growl echoed. Red eyes glowed in the darkness—small, but wrong. A single low-level ghoul, barely formed, kagune twitching like broken wings. It had slipped through the rift last night and smelled the crowd.

Zain cracked his knuckles. "Alright, ugly. Time for my first real fight."

He stepped inside, door clicking shut behind him. The creature lunged.

Outside, the club fair music swelled. Laughter rang across the courtyard. The girls waited, chatting about him, completely unaware.

Zain's fist met flesh with a wet crunch. The eclipse inched closer.
