Chapter 91 - Chapter 91 – When Power Isn’t Enoug

Liam Hayes didn't bother explaining anything to the Debari. There was no point in wasting words on them, not when the truth was already written in blood. These weren't harmless travelers or misunderstood visitors—they were predators, and they had already slaughtered countless humans.

That alone was enough to ignite anger in the others standing behind him. Even those who had hesitated before now looked at the aliens with cold hostility, their patience gone.

"Wes, do you need backup?" Phil Coulson jogged over from a distance, leading a squad of heavily armed agents.

Liam glanced at them, his eyes sweeping over their weapons with a faint hint of dismissal. Then he shook his head. "You?"

He didn't say it outright, but the meaning was clear. Those weapons might have been cutting-edge by human standards, but against a species capable of crossing the universe at will, they were nothing more than toys.

The Debari weren't just advanced—they were built differently. Their ability to traverse space alone implied bodies that could withstand extreme environments, making their physical durability far beyond anything ordinary humans could deal with.

"Everyone stay sharp," Liam said, his tone calm but firm. "These aliens aren't easy to handle."

"Got it." Storm nodded, stepping forward as her eyes turned completely white. The sky above darkened instantly, thunder rumbling as violent winds whipped through the area.

The sudden shift in the environment made the nearby agents stagger, their formation breaking under the pressure of the storm. Seeing this, Coulson quickly ordered a retreat, pulling his people back to a safer distance.

The first move came from Cyclops. He raised a hand to his visor, adjusting it slightly before unleashing a concentrated red shockwave.

The beam slammed into one of the Debari with explosive force, sending it flying backward into a wall with a loud crash. Dust and debris scattered everywhere, and for a brief moment, it looked like a solid hit.

But the illusion didn't last.

The Debari stood up almost immediately, brushing off its clothes as if nothing had happened. There wasn't even a visible injury left behind.

That single moment was enough to send a ripple of disbelief through the group.

"Hey! Scott, are you holding back or something?" Storm called out, her voice edged with frustration.

"Not really," Cyclops replied, his expression tightening. "That was close to full power."

The answer only made things worse.

That attack should have done serious damage—yet it hadn't even slowed the alien down. It wasn't just tough; it was absurdly resilient.

Liam frowned slightly. His earlier suspicion had just been confirmed. The Debari weren't relying on technology alone—their bodies themselves were terrifying weapons.

At that moment, Polaris stepped in. With a sharp wave of her hand, a nearby vehicle was lifted into the air, its metal frame groaning under the sudden force before it was hurled straight at the Debari.

The impact should have been devastating.

Instead, one of the Debari reached out and caught the vehicle mid-air.

Just like that.

"Not just durable," Liam muttered under his breath, eyes narrowing. "They're insanely strong too."

Storm's lightning crashed down from the sky a second later, striking multiple Debari at once. The bolts tore through their disguises, briefly exposing their true forms beneath the surface.

But even that only lasted a moment.

The damage repaired itself almost instantly, their appearances smoothing over as if nothing had ever happened.

"And their regeneration…" Cyclops added, his tone grim.

Before anyone could react further, Wolverine lunged forward. His adamantium claws extended with a metallic snikt as he closed the distance in a blur.

He drove his claws straight into a Debari's chest.

The strike landed cleanly, the indestructible metal slicing through the alien's body without resistance. For a split second, it looked like a decisive hit.

Then the wound closed.

It didn't even leave a scar.

Wolverine barely had time to process what happened before the Debari retaliated, its fist slamming into him with brutal force and sending him flying across the battlefield.

By that point, the conclusion was unavoidable.

Four powerful mutants had attacked—and none of it had worked.

These weren't ordinary enemies. Even among high-level threats, the Debari stood out as something fundamentally different. Their durability, strength, speed, and regeneration placed them on a level where most conventional attacks simply didn't matter.

Liam exhaled slowly, a faint smile tugging at his lips. "For a species on the brink of extinction… not bad."

He turned his head slightly toward the others. "You guys fall back. I'll handle this."

They hesitated for only a moment before nodding and retreating, trusting his judgment.

Liam stepped forward, his gaze locking onto the remaining Debari. "Extreme durability. Insane regeneration. Let's see how you deal with something on an atomic level."

As his voice faded, dozens of glowing orbs materialized around him, hovering silently in the air like miniature suns.

From a distance, Coulson's pupils shrank sharply.

"That ability again…" he muttered.

S.H.I.E.L.D. had analyzed it before, trying to understand what they were seeing. According to their best estimates, those light spheres were composed of electrons existing in a dual state between waves and particles—something that shouldn't even be possible to manipulate so precisely.

And yet Liam didn't just manipulate them. He weaponized them.

They had brought in Tony Stark to take a look, hoping for answers. Even he had come up empty.

"This is at least fifty years beyond anything we can explain," Stark had said.

Whatever the explanation, one thing was certain.

Anything hit by those beams didn't survive.

The orbs fired.

Streams of light tore through the battlefield, striking the Debari with pinpoint accuracy. Their bodies were pierced instantly, holes burned clean through them as the energy passed without resistance.

For a moment, it looked like the fight was over.

Then the wounds started closing.

Even after being shredded at the atomic level, the Debari regenerated.

"What the hell…" Polaris whispered, her voice filled with disbelief.

But the attack had done something.

The Debari weren't standing still anymore.

As if finally recognizing the threat Liam posed, they abandoned their passive defense and rushed forward all at once, their movements blurring with speed.

"Now you decide to move?" Liam scoffed.

The light orbs shifted again, firing another wave of atomic collapse beams.

Psst—Psst—Psst—

The barrage intensified, beams tearing through limbs, torsos, and even heads. This time, the attacks were more precise, targeting vital points that couldn't be easily avoided.

Several Debari dropped instantly, their heads destroyed before their regeneration could compensate.

In seconds, more than half of them were gone.

The remaining Debari let out enraged roars, their numbers already limited before the battle had even begun. Losing so many in such a short time pushed them into a frenzy.

They surged forward, faster than before.

Liam's expression shifted slightly, his pupils contracting. Even he hadn't expected that level of speed.

Of course.

A species capable of traveling through space wouldn't be slow. Whether through their own abilities or advanced technology, speed was a necessity.

Still, he didn't back down.

As the Debari closed in, he met them head-on.

His fist moved.

Bang. Bang. Bang.

Each impact sent a Debari flying, their bodies thrown backward like ragdolls. One of them took a direct hit to the head, the force so overwhelming that its regeneration stalled completely.

Liam rolled his shoulders slightly, a hint of boredom creeping into his expression. "So this is it? The so-called Debari?"

For a moment, it looked like the fight was already decided.

Then—

"Wes, look!" Polaris shouted suddenly, pointing behind the aliens.

Liam followed her gaze.

The villa in the distance was glowing red, an ominous light pulsing from within as if something inside was awakening.

His expression changed instantly.

"That's not good…"

Uk—the leader of the Debari—had already begun extracting the Phoenix Force from Jean Grey.

Without another word, Liam shot forward toward the villa.

The remaining Debari moved to intercept him again, forming a barrier in his path.

"Move."

His voice dropped, low and sharp.

Then he accelerated.

He didn't slow down. He didn't hesitate. He simply crashed through them.

The impact sent every remaining Debari flying in all directions, their bodies scattering as Liam forced his way past them and charged straight toward the villa.
