"With that kind of telepathy, sending people near her is pointless," Levis muttered, his tone firm as he made a quick decision. "Forget it. Don't send anyone. I'll handle the monitoring myself."
He ended the call with Nick Fury and immediately shifted tactics. Instead of direct surveillance, he tapped into electromagnetic signals, hijacking nearby networks and cameras to keep track of Jean's location from a distance.
For now, it was the safest option.
"Weiss, what are you thinking about?" Clarice's voice broke his train of thought as she walked into the room.
She noticed him lying on the couch, brows furrowed in concentration. Without hesitation, she sat beside him and began gently massaging his shoulders, her touch soft and comforting.
Levis reached up, taking her hand with a small smile. "Trying to figure out how to bring Jean back."
"Do you have a way?" she asked curiously, tilting her head slightly.
Most of the students were still unaware of what had happened. Clarice had only heard fragments through Polaris, and even then, the full situation hadn't been explained.
Levis chuckled lightly, pulling her closer by the waist. "Relax. I've already got a plan. We'll bring her back soon."
Only now did he notice what she was wearing.
A set of soft purple pajamas clung lightly to her figure, the faint outline of her curves visible through the fabric. It wasn't intentional, but it was enough to make the moment feel… different.
"Go wait in the room," he said with a faint grin.
Clarice nodded, her voice soft. "Okay."
She left quietly.
Just as Levis stood up to head for the shower, Polaris walked in, looking around with a hint of confusion. "Weiss, have you seen Clarice? I've been looking everywhere."
"She's… in the room," he replied, pointing casually.
"Oh." Polaris didn't think much of it and walked straight toward the bedroom.
Levis' eyes flickered slightly as he watched her go, a subtle smile forming.
After a quick shower, he returned.
Inside the room, Polaris and Clarice were already chatting comfortably, laughter filling the space as if nothing had ever been awkward between them.
Levis couldn't help but sigh inwardly.
Telepathy really was convenient.
Subtle influence, gentle guidance… it created a perfect balance. No conflict, no jealousy—just quiet acceptance.
The next day arrived under a heavy atmosphere.
At the academy, the X-Men waited anxiously, their thoughts lingering on Jean and the looming threat she represented. No one could relax, not when things could spiral out of control at any moment.
Levis, however, had other priorities.
He headed down to the underground lab, where Sophie and Phoebe were waiting. He had promised to spend time with them, and despite everything, he intended to keep that promise.
Of course, that wasn't the only reason.
His real target was someone else.
Ivan Vanko.
[Ding! Do you want to sign in with Ivan Vanko?]
[Ding! Sign-in successful. You have obtained the super ability 'Flexibility'. Reward: 100 experience points.]
Levis blinked.
"…What?"
The name alone made him pause. For a second, he wondered if this ability had some… questionable application.
But after a moment of analysis, the function became clear.
It allowed his limbs—arms, legs, even his neck—to stretch freely, much like elastic.
A rubber-like physiology.
"So basically… a budget version of a rubber man," he muttered, unimpressed.
It wasn't useless, but compared to the powers he already had, it felt underwhelming.
Still, the experience points were what mattered.
"Fine. One more sign-in and I'll be there."
He left it at that.
But things didn't go according to plan.
By nightfall, Levis was sitting casually in the lounge, flipping through channels on the TV, when the door suddenly burst open.
Cyclops rushed in, clearly agitated. "We've got a problem."
Levis didn't move, only glancing up. "What happened?"
"Someone approached Jean," Cyclops said quickly.
Levis' expression shifted instantly.
As Cyclops explained, the situation became clear.
Levis had been monitoring Jean's area remotely, while Cyclops and Storm handled physical observation from a safe distance. Everything had seemed under control.
Until a white-haired woman appeared.
At first, they assumed it was nothing serious—just a casual interaction. But then Jean left with her.
That was the problem.
Levis' eyes narrowed.
A white-haired woman…
The Debari.
The realization hit immediately.
An alien race that had once lost their homeworld to the Phoenix Force, they had spent years searching for that power across the universe. And now, they had found it again.
"I should've remembered…" he muttered under his breath.
He had been so focused on figuring out how to defeat the Phoenix Force that he had overlooked this external threat.
That was his mistake.
And unlike the movie version, these weren't going to be weak.
A species capable of interstellar travel wouldn't be pushovers.
"Why didn't you report this immediately?" Levis asked, his tone sharpening.
Cyclops looked slightly embarrassed. "We thought it was just a normal conversation. We didn't expect Jean to follow them."
Levis exhaled slowly.
It wasn't just their fault.
He should have anticipated this.
"Get everyone ready," he said firmly. "We can't let them succeed."
Cyclops nodded and quickly moved to gather the others.
Within minutes, Storm, Logan, and Polaris were all prepared.
Levis looked at them, his expression serious. "Listen carefully. A group of aliens has approached Jean. Their goal is the Phoenix Force inside her. Our job is to stop them."
That was all they needed to hear.
"Let's move," Cyclops said.
Levis activated his electromagnetic surveillance again, tracing the signals in Jean's vicinity. It didn't take long to locate her.
A villa district.
"That's where they took her."
Without hesitation, he activated space manipulation.
In the next instant, the group vanished from the academy.
They reappeared on a street just outside the target location.
In front of them stood the villa.
Storm glanced at the surroundings, her expression tightening. "There are too many civilians. Fighting here is too risky."
"Then we clear the area," a familiar voice cut in.
Phil Coulson stepped forward, already on-site.
Levis glanced at him, raising a brow. "You really do show up everywhere."
Coulson sighed. "Tell me about it. This was supposed to be my day off."
Levis waved him off. "Save it. Block off the street and evacuate everyone. Now."
"On it."
Coulson moved quickly, coordinating with S.H.I.E.L.D. agents to clear the area.
Within minutes, the street was empty.
Then, the villa doors opened.
More than a dozen people stepped out—men, women, even children.
But Levis knew better.
His eyes narrowed.
"You're the Debari."
The group paused, clearly surprised.
"You know who we are?" one of them asked, their tone laced with curiosity.
Behind Levis, Cyclops and Storm exchanged confused looks.
