Chapter 5 - Chapter 5 – Tracy's Temptation

He forced down the surging emotions and turned to the first page.

Character name: Charles Herman.

Description: John Nash's roommate at Princeton University, in fact Nash's imaginary friend. Charles is charismatic, reckless, and dissolute.

Next came outlines of several key scenes, including Charles and Nash's first meeting in the dormitory, and moments that show Charles's carefree attitude and how he leads Nash into "another world."

Landon's heart pounded, blood racing as if it had suddenly hit turbo.

He knew this film too well! In his previous life he had watched this classic over and over.

A Beautiful Mind, the masterpiece that swept the Oscars, including Best Picture and Best Director!

Russell Crowe also reaffirmed his status as a leading man by winning the Oscar for his role as Nash.

When he finished reading the synopsis Landon looked up to find Tracy staring straight at him, her gaze hot with open admiration and possessiveness.

Landon blinked, then understood.

"Tracy obviously wants something from me—no wonder she pulled every string to get me this role."

Looking at Tracy's exquisite face, her undisguised eagerness, and the figure her suit skirt couldn't hide, Landon stared a little too long.

Perhaps sensing his gaze, Tracy finally noticed the shift in atmosphere.

Then she saw in Landon's eyes the kind of lust a man shows for a mature woman.

Her heart skipped, and she couldn't stop a flicker of delight from crossing her face.

She knew very well that Landon had only ever liked naive little girls—

Who'd have thought today he'd give her such an intriguing look.

Tracy's thoughts raced, but her body had already reacted on instinct.

She moved closer, her full figure brushing his arm, a wave of perfume washing over him.

Tracy reached out and casually rested her hand on Landon's knee.

"So? Is the role difficult?" Tracy's voice softened, and her fingers began to trace idle circles on his knee.

Landon's breath caught; he leaned forward slightly and sighed silently.

Then, without a word, he lifted her wrist, lifted those soft little hands away, and set them on the coffee table beside him.

Meeting Tracy's startled, even more predatory gaze, he said as steadily as he could,

"No problem! Tracy, I'm very interested in this role. I'll clear my schedule and throw myself into preparing for it."

Tracy watched his deliberately serious face, the flush creeping up to his ears, and after a tiny pause she seemed to discover a delicious secret and burst out laughing.

She laughed until her eyes curved and her shoulders shook, her tailored blazer outlining every swaying curve.

When her laughter faded she didn't retreat; instead she shifted her round hips even closer.

Then she opened her arms and gave him a gentle hug.

The sudden closeness made Landon stiffen; beneath the towel his body burned, his breath hitching.

Tracy brought her red lips to his ear, her warm, scented breath brushing his ear as she whispered,

"Landon, once you land the role and join the crew…" She paused, tongue seemingly brushing his earlobe, "you can have anything you want from me."

Without waiting for him to recover from the sudden assault, Tracy seized his head and kissed him hard, swift as lightning.

Landon's eyes widened in disbelief, thinking,

"Am I… tainted? But why don't I feel upset—why am I actually thrilled?"

Just as Landon decided he was the one losing out and prepared to counterattack,

Tracy didn't give him the chance; she stood up quickly.

She straightened her slightly rumpled suit skirt, her expression once again the cool professionalism of an agent, though a triumphant smile lingered in her eyes.

"Remember: nine o'clock every morning, go to Marina del Rey for lessons. I'll text you the address and contact later."

She picked up her briefcase, reached the door, then glanced back at Landon still frozen on the sofa.

Her voice trembled slightly as she added,

"Prepare well, Landon. Don't let… the company's investment go to waste."

With that, cheeks burning, she hurried out as if she had urgent business elsewhere.

The door closed behind her, the click of her heels fading down the corridor until silence returned.

The apartment was quiet again, Landon alone on the sofa, clutching the script of A Beautiful Mind.

His lips still held the sticky sweetness and heat of Tracy's lipstick; the skin she had stroked on his knee still tingled.

The restless tension held in check by the towel reminded him how real it all had been.

He glanced at the name "Charles Herman" on the script, then at the closed door, finally at his own perfect body.

He felt a twinge of envy for that perfect body, then gratitude and joy—

Because that perfect body was his.

Landon calmed himself; now wasn't the time for distractions.

What he needed was to win the role of Charles Herman and change his fate.

He carried the script to the desk, placed the copy of A Beautiful Mind in the center, sat down, and began to study.

Outside, the California sun blazed, stripes of light falling through the blinds onto the script, the printed words sharp and clear.

He read through once, absorbing the plot, then cross-checked it against his memories of the film A Beautiful Mind.

He picked up a pen and began writing a character biography for Charles Herman in a fresh notebook:

"Charles Herman – the 'other self' Nash longs to become.

He is witty, dashing, unrestrained, everything Nash lacks.

He understands Nash's loneliness, admires his genius, and can always pull Nash out of reality's mire into a freer, more casual world.

But Charles is in fact the perfect best friend Nash's mind created under unbearable pressure…"

His pen flew across the page, leaving dense lines of ink.
