Chapter 5 - Chapter 5: Saving the Witches to Secure the Reward

The abandoned factory looked like a total dump as its windows were completely smashed and the brick walls were covered in green like thing that smelled like old garbage.

Kai stood right behind Sheila while he checked his pathetic stats one more time to make sure he was ready for whatever was waiting inside this creepy place.

'I really need to find a real weapon soon because fighting a high-level vampire with a broken piece of wood is a terrible idea,' Kai thought to himself as he gripped his stick.

Sheila didn't even care about sneaking in quietly or planning a stealthy approach as she just raised her hand and froze the huge doors until they shattered into tiny pieces of ice.

They walked inside the dark building together, and a horrible smell of blood hit them instantly, so Kai had to cover his nose with his shirt to stop himself from throwing up right on the floor.

They moved carefully past some ruined assembly lines and empty wooden boxes until they reached the centre of the huge warehouse floor, where the boss was casually waiting for them.

Damian was sitting on a pile of broken crates like it was a royal throne, and he looked exactly like an arrogant vampire lord with his fancy red coat and glowing red eyes that was clearly visible through the shadows.

"Well, look who finally decided to show up at my new home," Damian smirked as he wiped a fresh drop of blood from his pale chin while he looked down at them with pure amusement.

"I didn't expect the famous Ice Witch to come all the way to a filthy human town just to find me, but I guess you must really miss your little runts."

Damian then shifted his glowing eyes over to Kai and laughed a harsh laugh as he stood up from his makeshift throne.

"I see you brought a fragile little human pet with you, too, so maybe I will drain him first for an appetiser before I deal with you," Damian added as he pointed a sharp fingernail right at Kai.

Kai flipped his middle finger because he absolutely wasn't going to take insults from a generic mid-tier villain he had beaten a dozen times on his mobile back in the real world.

"You talk way too much for a dead man," Sheila said coldly as she didn't waste another second and launched a barrage of sharp ice daggers straight at his face.

Damian laughed again as he moved fast and dodged every single spike with ease, so Sheila created a long sword out of pure ice and rushed right at him to close the distance.

"Get the younglings out of here while I keep this annoying bastard busy!" Sheila shouted back at Kai as she swung her sword hard and clashed directly with the vampire's bare hands.

Kai didn't hesitate at all as he sprinted towards the dark corner of the factory where he remembered the prison cages were supposed to be located in the game's original design.

The loud sounds of ice shattering and heavy impacts echoed behind him while he focused entirely on his rescue mission because he knew Sheila needed him to finish this fast.

He reached the back brick wall and saw a long row of iron cages lined up in the dark, so he hurried over to the very first one to check inside.

'Please tell me we aren't too late to save them,' Kai thought as he grabbed the iron bars and peered into the deep shadows.

His stomach totally dropped when he saw a young girl with silver hair lying completely still on the dirty concrete floor.

She was pale, and her skin looked almost grey because the vampire had already bled her completely dry to feed himself.

'Ah shit, that really sucks to see in real life instead of just on a screen,' Kai sighed heavily as he felt a real wave of anger in him because this was way more messed up than a video game cutscene.

He quickly moved to the next cage and felt a huge wave of relief wash over him because he saw three girls huddled together in the corner.

They were shaking with fear as they looked up at him with wide and terrified eyes, but they were definitely still alive and breathing as they clung to each other.

"It is okay. Sheila sent me here to get you out safely," Kai whispered, so he wouldn't distract the vampire who was still fighting intensely in the middle of the room.

'Not like his enhanced hearing didn't hear him tho.'

The girls didn't say anything as they just pointed weakly at the lock on the cage door, so Kai stepped back and got ready to use his only combat skill.

'His low-level combat movements are basically useless in a real boss fight, but they work absolutely great for breaking weak objects,' Kai strategised in his head as he got into a batting stance.

He gripped his broken stick tightly and activated Hard Strike as a faint white light wrapped around the wood to boost its physical damage.

'Wow, I got some power too.'

He smashed the stick right into the padlock with everything he had, and the lock cracked open instantly, so he could pull the heavy metal door wide open for them.

"Come on, hurry up and get out right now," Kai urged the girls out of the cage while he kept checking his health bar just in case Damian decided to throw a random area attack his way.

The young witches crawled out very carefully, and they looked incredibly weak as they leaned on each other for support while Kai moved down the line to break open two more cages using the same trick.

He managed to gather about ten surviving girls in total after checking all the locks, but they were all way too weak to run away on their own.

Kai looked over his shoulder to check the main battle and saw Sheila sliding across the floor on a patch of ice as she tried desperately to put some distance between her and the vampire.

Damian was simply too fast for her normal magic attacks, and he was laughing like a complete maniac while he threw heavy punches that cracked Sheila's beautiful ice shields into tiny, useless pieces.

'She is going to lose if this keeps up because vampires have crazy stamina regeneration, and she is burning through all her mana way too fast,' Kai analysed the fight just like a hardcore gamer calculating stats.

He knew he had to secure the girls first so Sheila could actually go all out without worrying about accidentally catching her own people in a massive crossfire.

"Follow me right now and stay totally quiet," Kai told the group of rescued witches as he guided them towards a sturdy-looking side office that had a thick security door.
