"What are you doing…?" she asked in a low, trembling voice.
Oscar did not notice anything unusual about his girlfriend.
With a voice full of hope, he spoke loudly:
"Lucy… will you marry me?"
The entire hall fell silent.
All eyes turned to Lucy.
Seconds passed.
Then Lucy suddenly stood up.
She didn't say a word.
She didn't smile.
She didn't give any answer.
She turned and ran out of the hall as if she were running to save her life.
The hall erupted in shock.
"How is that possible…?"
"She ran away? Or did I see wrong?"
"Is she crazy?"
No one understood what had just happened.
In a world where many people dream of someone kneeling down and proposing to them…
that girl was running away from it.
Oscar remained frozen in place.
His heart pounded hard.
His mind refused to accept it.
How could this be…?
…
At the corner of the hall,
the sound of the piano suddenly stopped.
The pianist stood up.
With slow steps, he left the piano and walked toward the exit.
No one got the chance to clearly see his face.
He went outside.
From a distance, he saw a car speeding away — Lucy inside it.
The man stood silently, staring at the road.
Then he whispered in a heavy, unusual voice:
"Lucy…"
Inside the hall, Oscar also rushed outside.
He looked around, searching for Lucy's car.
It was already gone.
With trembling hands, he took out his phone and called Lucy's mother.
The call was answered.
"Hello, Mom…"
Oscar's voice broke in the middle of his words.
There was fear in it.
"There's a problem…"
