Lucy kept staring at him for a moment, as if her mind had drifted far beyond that hall.
Suddenly…
Oscar moved from his side of the table and stood beside Lucy.
He was smiling, but there was something hidden within that smile.
Lucy frowned slightly.
"What is it… why don't I understand?" she asked in surprise.
Before she could get an answer…
Oscar went down on one knee.
The entire hall suddenly fell silent.
Only the sound of the piano could be heard.
He took out a small ring box and slowly opened it.
Inside was a diamond ring sparkling under the lights, its shine reflecting directly into Lucy's eyes.
The hall burst into whispers.
"Wow… she's so lucky!"
"I wish that were me."
"Why don't you ever surprise me like that?" one woman complained to her boyfriend.
Jealousy, surprise, and excitement filled the air.
But…
Lucy didn't smile.
She didn't cheer.
She didn't cover her mouth in happiness like everyone expected.
Instead, she stared at the ring as if she had just seen something frightening.
Then she looked at Oscar.
Her eyes were filled with something impossible to understand.
"What are you doing…?" she asked in a low, trembling voice.
Oscar didn't notice the unusual change in his girlfriend.
With a voice full of hope, he said loudly:
"Lucy… will you marry me?"
