Daniel found out on a Wednesday.
Not because Roman told him. Roman hadn't told anyone officially — it had simply become the kind of thing that existed in the company without needing to be announced, the way certain truths settle into a space once they stop being hidden.
But Daniel found out on a Wednesday because he walked into Roman's office without knocking — which he did regularly and Roman had given up objecting to years ago — and found Jay sitting in the chair across the desk reading something on his phone while Roman worked, and the particular ease between them was the kind that told a person everything without saying anything.
Daniel stopped in the doorway.
Jay looked up.
Roman did not.
"The Morrison file," Daniel said, recovering quickly. He crossed to the desk and set the folder down. "Sign off on section three when you get a chance."
"I'll have it by end of day," Roman said.
Daniel straightened.
He looked at Jay.
