… THE DECISION …

† THE ELDAZ MANSION †

SAPPHIRE'S SUITE

Sapphire sat frozen on the edge of her bed, like a statue carved from sorrow. Sunlight streamed through the tall window, catching in her raven hair and making it shine — a cruel contrast to the emptiness in her eyes.

Her hazel eyes were swollen and red, her cheeks still damp from hours of silent crying. No matter how hard she tried, her father's voice kept echoing in her head, sharp as broken glass.

"Leave my house… You no longer belong here."

Her chest tightened again.

With a trembling breath, she forced herself to stand and walked slowly into the bathroom. Turning on the shower, she stepped under the icy water, letting it run down her skin as her body shivered violently.

She didn't move.

Didn't cry.

Didn't think.

This would be the last time she would ever bathe in this house.

Minutes later, she stepped out, numb and hollow. She wore simple jeans and a black leather jacket — nothing fancy, nothing that tied her to this place.

She didn't pack her clothes.

Didn't take her jewelry.

Didn't even look at the wardrobe.

All she took was her diary, her phone, and her wallet, slipping them into a small black purse.

That was all her life had been reduced to.

She looked around the room one last time — the bed she had cried on, the window she had dreamed beside, the walls that had heard her laughter growing up.

Then she walked out without looking back again.

Downstairs, the servants paused as she passed. Their eyes were filled with pity, sympathy… even helplessness.

But one face showed no kindness.

Her stepmother, Lady Eldaz, stood proudly in the hallway, her lips curled into a satisfied smirk.

"Cursed child," she spat.

The words struck deep, but Sapphire only bit her lip harder, refusing to cry in front of her. She walked past her, shoulders stiff, heart breaking with every step.

Outside, the gatekeeper silently opened the gates for her. No questions. No goodbyes.

And just like that…

She walked out of the Eldaz Mansion.

Out of her home.

Out of her past.

Out of the life she had known for nineteen years.

The sun was bright, almost mocking her misery. The street was quiet, and Sapphire felt exposed standing there alone, her glowing skin and striking beauty drawing occasional glances.

She walked to the next street, knowing taxis rarely came near the mansion.

When one finally stopped, she hesitated before opening the door.

"Ma'am, where to?" the driver asked.

She froze.

Where did she belong now?

After a long pause, she whispered,

"A convenience store."

She needed time to think. Time to breathe. Time to decide where her life would go from here.

The driver glanced at her through the mirror, clearly noticing her pale face and distant eyes, but he said nothing as he drove.

Sapphire leaned back, exhaustion washing over her.

She wanted to leave Mexico.

Leave everything.

Disappear somewhere no one knew her.

The pain had been so unbearable the previous night that she had almost ended her life…

If not for the servant who had stopped her.

Her throat tightened at the memory.

The taxi slowed into a traffic jam. Sapphire's gaze drifted outside until she spotted a convenience store across the road.

Without thinking twice, she paid the driver and stepped out.

"But Ma'am, we're not there yet!" he called, confused.

She didn't answer.

She just crossed the busy road, walking like someone guided by instinct rather than thought.

Inside the store, warmth wrapped around her. The smell of food, the quiet hum of people living ordinary lives… it almost made her feel human again.

She went straight to the noodles shelf and picked her favorite cup.

Even now… noodles were still her comfort.

After preparing it, she sat and began eating quickly, as though filling the emptiness inside her.

For a few minutes, nothing existed except the warmth of the food and the quiet clatter of the store.

Then—

"Hii."

Sapphire looked up.

A tiny girl stood before her, bright-eyed and smiling like sunshine itself.

"I'm Masha," the girl said proudly. "I love your hair."

Something inside Sapphire softened instantly.

She smiled — a real smile this time.

"Thank you, Masha."

The child was adorable — round cheeks, pink lips, big sparkling eyes full of innocent joy. Sapphire found herself staring, almost mesmerized.

She used to smile like that once.

Used to be carefree.

Used to believe life was kind.

"Masha!" a young nanny called from across the store. "Come here now."

The girl waved energetically.

"Bye!" she chirped before bouncing away.

Sapphire watched her go… and suddenly her chest ached.

A tear slid silently down her cheek.

She had once been that happy.

That safe.

That loved.

After finishing her meal, she paid at the counter and stepped outside again.

Reality returned instantly.

But now… she had made her decision.

She would leave by 2 p.m. for Elites College.

Italy.

Far away from everything.

A new life.

A new start.

A new version of herself.

Still… as she stood there waiting for another taxi, she realized something painful.

She would miss Mexico.

It had been her home for nineteen years.

Her childhood laughter lived here.

So did her heartbreak.

When the taxi arrived, she got in without hesitation.

At the airport, everything moved quickly — check-in, boarding, waiting.

Then finally…

Sapphire stepped onto the plane.

And as it prepared to take off, she whispered softly to herself,

"Goodbye… old life."

† MILAN, ITALY †

Sapphire stepped out of the airport, clutching her small black purse like it was the only thing anchoring her to reality.

Italy.

A new country.

A new life.

A life she had arrived in with nothing.

She needed clothes. Essentials. Everything. She had left Mexico with only what she could carry — as if she had erased herself from her own past.

Exhaustion weighed heavily on her body. She hadn't slept during the flight. Not even for a moment.

All she had done was think… and hurt.

She flagged down a taxi, her movements slow, almost mechanical.

"Where to?" the driver asked.

Sapphire unlocked her phone and checked the booking confirmation. She had initially reserved a hotel for some time before figuring out where to live permanently.

"Don Stan Hotel," she replied softly.

She didn't want conversation.

Didn't want questions.

Didn't want anything that required energy she no longer had.

As the taxi drove through the streets of Milan, Sapphire found herself staring out the window.

The city was beautiful. Elegant. Sophisticated.

But something about the air felt different… heavy… almost charged.

It felt like the beginning of something she couldn't yet understand.

Something waiting.

She couldn't quite put her finger on it, but the feeling settled deep inside her chest.

The ride ended sooner than she expected.

She paid the driver with the cash she had withdrawn at the airport and stepped out, staring up at the hotel building like she was unsure if she truly belonged there.

Inside, she checked in quietly. No small talk. No smiles.

Her room was simple but tastefully decorated — soft lighting, clean sheets, warm neutral colors. It felt peaceful… which was exactly what she needed.

She had money. More than enough, actually.

Her online décor business was thriving, with trusted workers shipping her products worldwide.

But she didn't want luxury.

Didn't want attention.

She wanted quiet.

A simple life.

A life no one could ruin.

No one in Mexico even knew about her business.

Not her father.

Not old acquaintances.

No one.

It was the only thing in her life that truly belonged to her.

She slowly peeled off her clothes and dropped them into the washer inside the suite.

Then she stepped into the shower.

Cold water rushed over her skin, but this time she didn't shiver.

Instead…

She broke.

A sob escaped her chest before she could stop it. Then another. Then another.

Tears mixed with the falling water as grief poured out of her.

If only her mother were alive…

She wouldn't be here.

Wouldn't be alone.

Wouldn't feel so unwanted.

Her mother had died giving birth to her — a fact her father never let her forget.

And after that loss came the woman who would turn her life into a battlefield…

Her stepmother.

Sapphire pressed her palm against the tiled wall, her shoulders shaking as the water continued to fall.

For a moment, she let herself grieve everything — her home, her childhood, her mother, the life she had lost.

When she finally stepped out, she felt empty but lighter… like the storm inside her had quieted, at least for now.

She dried her hair slowly with the hotel's dryer, then slipped into the soft bathrobe provided.

The bed looked impossibly warm.

She crawled into it, curling into herself like she used to when she was younger and scared of the dark.

And within seconds…

Sleep claimed her.

For the first time since leaving Mexico, Sapphire allowed herself to rest.
