Elena runs as fast as her legs can take her. She's been running her whole life, but it has always been toward something, not from something. If she were to run from something, it would be from the foster care system.
But this time she's running from something more dangerous, something much worse. Darkness that threatens to consume her. She's never seen anything like it before. It looks like she's going to die; she will die if she doesn't move faster.
But what kind of thing is this? Why does it want her, and where did it come from? She doesn't have the strength to ask herself these questions; all she has to do is run.
That's until she trips and falls like a white girl in a horror movie. But there's no one to scream "GO SAVE YOURSELF!" at the moment, it's just her and the darkness. Even in real life, a black girl can't be a final girl; it's so unrealistic.
"Oh crap," she says because she knows she's doomed.
The darkness spreads like a cloud in the air; it doesn't look like some non-living thing, it looks like it breathes air, like it's an actual person.
But this thing isn't human, obviously.
It's dark, looks dangerous and has vicious red eyes. It looks evil, and it looks like it wants to devour her right there and then. Elena has to accept her fate, after all. Life has been a hell of a ride.
Party girls do die afterall.
She closes her eyes and waits for the darkness to destroy her, but she opens them when she hears a sexy manly grunt.
She sees a hot shirtless black guy has destroyed the darkness with his gold sword. Her knight in shining armour has saved her.
Scratch that, party girls never die.
And party girls always get saved by hot guys.
The darkness lets out a scream that makes it disappear, blending into the night. They're gone, and it's just her and the knight.
The knight stands valiantly looking at the void the darkness left, and then he immediately turns around to Elena.
"My princess, are you okay?"
My princess. So romantic.
"Ye-yes," Elena says, getting up. "You were amazing."
Amazingly hot.
He smirks, and damn, he looks too good. He looks like a model. A fucking model who should be on the cover of a magazine.
"And for saving me, I'm going to thank you. With a kiss," she says.
"I'll accept it gracefully, my princess." He says, and Elena excitedly closes her eyes and leans over to the knight.
She's about to kiss this hot, hot boy, and when she does, she doesn't think she can share her saliva with anyone else.
That's until she opens her eyes and finds herself on the couch in the living room. And the hot guy she was dreaming about sits next to her, watching her.
"Rise and shine, sunshine." He says, sitting with his legs spread and his arms crossed and his arms are testimony that he does work out…a lot.
Elena quickly sits up on the couch, and she looks around, confused.
"Wha-what happened?"
"What do you remember?" He asks.
"I-uh…" she stops to think, and when the memories come back, her eyes widen. Then she looks at the hot boy. She looks into his eyes, they're golden, she's never seen anyone with such eyes before, and his ears are pointy.
He's not human. He's a werewolf.
"Vampires… oh crap, those vampires killed my adopted parents, they just adopted me, man. What the hell? That wasn't nice of them."
"Vampires are never nice," he confirms. "What else do you remember?"
"I remember you saving you and me… you're a werewolf, aren't you?"
"Yes, I am, and what else do you remember?"
She stops to think again. She remembers them having some kind of chemistry or tension, and she remembers the dream she had where she was a fucking damsel in distress.
Ewww.
And she remembers almost kissing him, but she doesn't think that's what he's asking.
She shrugs.
"You don't remember anything that happened after those vampires died."
"No, dude. All I remember was those vampires killed my adopted parents, who were very nice by the way, and they were about to kill me, they called me a princess and a fairy and talked about how they were going to love my blood and-"
"You don't remember saving me?" he says, smiling, and this time Elena is even more confused.
"Saving you from what? You were the one who saved me, remember?"
"Yes, I did," he leans over his chair. "But you also saved me."
Elena is this close to asking what he's talking about. How can she, a girl who doesn't know a thing about fighting vampires, be saving the one who is skilled at killing vampires?
"You saved me by killing the vampires who attacked me; you used your powers."
Her eyebrows crease, and she's just as confused.
"I don't understa-" and then it hits her.
He is right, and this happened after the tension between them.
"Oh yes!" she says loudly. "OMG, I did that?"
He nods.
"It all happened so fast. All I know is…" She sits on the couch, facing the hot werewolf. "I had this urgency to save you, and I don't know it just happened." She looks at her hands.
"Why did that happen?" she asks.
"Well, those vampires may have been full of shit, but they were right about one thing. You are a fairy, a very special fairy. You are a light fairy with the power of the shining sun. You are also a princess. Princess Elena Viktoria Stelarie Auremont-Flarewood of the Kingdom of Luminastra."
Elena looks at him wide-eyed.
"Shut up!"
"It's true. You're a fairy, not just a fairy but a princess."
"Holy…" she looks around her like the answers to a million questions she's about to ask are plastered all over the living room.
"This Lumis, where is it. Is it in an African country?"
"Luminastra," he corrects. "And it's not on earth it's on another planet, Lenfairia. A land for the fae."
"Fae?"
"Magical creatures."
"Whoa, I'm not from this planet."
It all makes sense now. She's been told constantly that she's not from around here. But people usually say she's an alien. A fairy wouldn't be the first thing to come to mind.
"I thought fairies were tiny creatures."
"Ah, those are pixies. They're different."
"Oh."
What's the difference?
"If I'm royalty, then why the hell did my parents abandon me?"
"Your parents didn't abandon you. They saved you."
"What?"
"They saved you from witches who wanted to kill you by taking your powers. A group of powerful witches broke into the palace, and they were about to kill you. Your parents gave my father the responsibility of taking you to earth where there are no witches or creatures of darkness that could hurt you. They told my father that when you were of age and your powers got stronger, you'd be able to defend yourself, and you could come back home.
My dad took you to Earth, where you couldn't be hurt. They died trying to protect you, Elena."
Elena's mouth is wide open, and she looks at him in shock. She's a bit sad and hurt because she's spent years being angry at them. She has always thought she was abandoned. But they didn't abandon her; they died saving her.
"Oh my God, all this while I thought they abandoned me. All I had of them was the blanket, this gold locket with my name in it." She touches the locket around he neck.
"That…" he snaps his finger and points at the locket. "Is magical. You were given that so it'd be easy to track you down." Perri brings out another locket that looks just like hers. "This is what I used; it was your mother's."
"Really?" she looks at the locket. And compares it to hers, then she shakes her head. "I've been tempted to sell this locket so many times. You're lucky I didn't."
"I'm glad you didn't," he says, smiling and damn, he just has the most beautiful smile. Elena looks away immediately. She has to focus; she has a lot of questions to ask.
"So would my being a fairy have anything to do with the colour of my hair?"
"Uh, yes, all light fairies have golden locks, fire fairies have red hair, water fairies have blue hair, snow fairies have white hair, earth fairies have green hair, animal fairies have golden brown hair and air fairies have pink hair."
"Wait, there are different kinds of fairies."
"Yeah, different races. Light fairies are of the Afro race."
"So light fairies are African."
"Yes, we used to live among humans years ago until the Industrial revolution humans turned on the Gods, and we created another planet to save us from their hands. Put us all in Lenfairia with our own kingdoms, cities and towns and all." he looks at his watch. "Look, I'm happy to explain further, but we don't have time. We have to get going," he says, and so does Elena.
"Wait, you know my name… my full name, I never thought I had. But I don't know yours."
"Oh, where are my manners? My name is Perrilion Stormbryn, but my friends call me Perri."
"Nice to meet you, Perri, thanks for saving me and taking your time to take me to a planet where I'm a princess and a powerful fairy."
"The pleasure is all mine," he winks, and that sends Elena…
They both stare at each other the same way they did before Elena blasted her powers on those vampires.
Perri sees what's going on and clears his throat.
"Let's get going, shall we?"
"How do we even get there? And wait a second, if there are no vampires on earth, where did those come from?"
"They probably followed me. Someone must have alerted them." he looks down, trying to think of who it might be, but he doesn't know. "We'll figure it out later, let's go."
"Leaving so soon?" They both stop, and Elena gasps when she sees something that shouldn't be possible.
Mary and Julius Smith, her adopted parents, are alive.
"But we just adopted you."
They don't really look alive because they're still dead.
They're no longer humans.
They're vampires.
