Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: The Notebook

Note: This starts like death note but changes gradually.

It was a quiet evening on the streets of Tokyo. School had ended hours ago, but Light Yagami was still walking home, carrying nothing but his bag and the weight of ordinary teenage life.

That's when he saw it.

A black notebook lying on the sidewalk, edges frayed, with "Death Note" written in bold white letters across the cover. He knelt down, picked it up, and turned it over. There was no owner in sight, no note explaining how it got there. Just the notebook, silent and heavy in his hands.

Curiosity prickled. He opened it.

Inside were rules, written in a language he could read easily, but with an almost supernatural clarity:

The human whose name is written in this note shall die. This note will not take effect unless the writer has the person's face in mind while writing their name.

Light frowned. His rational mind screamed that it was a joke, some clever prank. But the notebook felt different..almost alive. The pages seemed to pulse with possibility.

He flipped through, reading rules he could hardly believe. Killings by writing names? Impossible. And yet… something inside him stirred.

That night, back in his room, Light sat at his desk, notebook open, pencil in hand. The world outside his window was asleep, unaware of the decision that was about to be made.

He picked a name at random from the news- a criminal who had escaped justice countless times. He paused, thinking through the rules, imagining the man's face clearly in his mind. Then, with careful strokes, he wrote.

The next morning, the news broke. The man had died suddenly. Heart attack. No sign of foul play.

Light read the headline and leaned back in his chair, breathing slowly. His rational mind spun in disbelief, but a small, dark thrill spread through him. It works. It actually works.

For the first time, Light felt… power. And with power came purpose.
