Chapter 63 - Ch 63: Meeting with Higher-ups

As unfortunate as it sounds, Ogi once again lived. And I started to think that man really is a cockroach. Like what are the odds of his escaping me three times, yes, three? First when I slam a piller on him when I say he locked Maki and Mai; then there is the second time when he couldn't accept Maki and Mai are getting good treatment in the clan due to my influence. That time it was Naobita and Mai who pulled me from plucking his heart out, and finally this.

"Is Ogi the protagonist or something? The plot armor is strong with this one."

One time is luck; never mind, let's say two times is luck, but three times, yeah, that's outside the scope of luck. In fact, this time I even went out of my way to bring Ogi to the graveyard, and Maki was there to stop it.

I started to think Ogi is an apostle of God of abuses and wife-beating; otherwise his luck makes no sense.

Unfortunately, despite the emotional disappointment of not being allowed to cave Ogi's skull in, I didn't even get time to properly sulk about it. I was summoned by another collection of ancient parasites called Jujutsu higher-ups.

Truly, if hell existed, it probably just looked like a meeting room full of old men discussing tradition.

The chamber itself was almost completely dark when I arrived alongside Gojo. Only faint candlelight illuminated sections of the room, barely revealing silhouettes hidden behind folding screens. The higher-ups always loved this dramatic nonsense; honestly, I started thinking of them as children who threw tantrums if things didn't go their way. They probably believed the dark made them look mysterious and wise. In reality, they looked like mold growing in a government basement.

I stood beside Gojo with my hands lazily tucked into my sleeves while he leaned casually near the entrance, looking completely unbothered as usual.

The room remained silent for several moments to build up the tension. Then one of the old fossils finally spoke.

His voice was dry and stoic. "Yuta Okkotsu is a dangerous element."

Ah. So this was about Yuta.

I thought they already put Yuta's execution order in suspension because of Gojo, so I didn't know what this is about.

"To harbor a curse of such magnitude…" another elder continued coldly. "The risk to jujutsu society is unacceptable."

"Mm," I hummed softly. "And here I thought the risk to jujutsu society was old men making decisions." I wanted to break the tense atmosphere, that's all. But it seems my words rubbed the old man the wrong way.

Gojo snorted beside me.

One of the elders immediately slammed their hand against wood.

"Watch your tongue, Naoya!" He talks to me in a snarky tone.

"Sorry," I replied without sounding sorry at all.

"We have decided the curse user known as Yuta Okkotsu must be eliminated."

Silence followed after that. To say this was unexpected would make one a retard. While I am many things, I didn't consider myself a retard.

When does a retard consider himself a retard? A legit question, for which I have no answer.

But I do know these 'Chinese beards'; these people always feared anything they couldn't fully control. Anything capable of disrupting their fragile balance of authority.

Gojo remained quiet beside me.

"As heir to the Zenin clan, your cooperation is expected."

They are afraid of going against Gojo, so they wanted to set good old me against him; talk about irony.

I remember setting my opposition to a bigger company to capitalize on the market and maximize my company's profit, and here I am seeing another version of my ingenuity I played with in my last life.

True irony is the fact that I wanted to run away from all of this, but someone or something is pushing me. I feel like I am in a story, and the third-rate author is trying his best to involve me in the main story.

"You answer, Naoya Zenin," one of the elders asked in an anticipatory voice, seeing that I was silent.

I mushed for a bit, trying to look like I was taking seriously their word of me going against Gojo. "Yuta will fold me up if I fight him."

One of the elders sounded genuinely offended. "…What?"

I shrugged casually. "The kid has a special-grade curse attached to him that looks like it eats buildings for breakfast." I tilted my head slightly. "Meanwhile, I'm still just fast and can heal; there is no way I can go against him. Look, even my knees are shaking in fear." I said in a stoic manner as I pointed to my perfectly sturdy legs.

Gojo suddenly burst into laughter beside me. "You heard the brat!"
