"When I was your age," Dada began,
"India was not free."
The children looked shocked.
"Not free?" Sara asked.
"Yes," Dada nodded. "The British ruled our country. Farmers were poor. Taxes were high. People were afraid."
Dada told them how his father worked in the fields but had to give much of the crop as tax. Sometimes there was little food left.
Imran clenched his fists.
"That is not fair!"
Dada smiled gently.
"And that is why brave people stood up."
