Chapter 3 - Chapter 3: God's Mouthpiece

As more accusations were being thrown towards the two. People were starting to be influenced by fear. It was something else if what the guy said is false, but what if, just what if. The chances of something like happening is less likely, but irrationality was the driving force at this point.

The commotion was happening not that far from the orphanage, so of course all the staff had already caught wind of it.

"Mother Superior, aren't we going to do anything?

One Nun asked, worry was plastered all over her face. Though it is quite rare for things like burning a witch on a stake or public execution to happen, that doesn't mean they don't. In most cases the holy hunting team comes back with a witch or a demon, to demonstrate to the masses what is happening behind the city walls.

Or to reinforce faith in the Gods in people. After it happens, fear is spread in each household that it becomes the focal topic for some time. The priests and the nobles also spread news of vile dark beats that live off human flesh and heinous human sacrifices.

"There is no need for us to do anything. Though we have exiled them. They are still technically under divine protection, though that will only last till midnight."

Back to the street, people were starting to get infected by words spewed by the drunkard. The curious faces changed into scowls, eyes staring intensely. At his point all they saw was red.

"Stop, Let the Gods guide your emotions as not to be overtaken by the devil"

In the sea of anger and irrationality, a voice clear as a breeze, and as melodious as the humming bird. The voice was so effective that, what appeared to be a bloodbath ready to happen, has mellowed out.

"Father Thomas!"

As if a rehearsed chore. The masses all called on his name. The drankard also called out his name in the most sobered up words he could master.

"Brother is it understandable, we live like shackled animals while those vile demons roam freely on the lands, but let that no be reason for your false accusation"

Father Thomas spoke while directly facing the drunkard this time.

"Father forgive, my state is currently of a person under the influence, but we can clearly see that this creature here" He pointed at Mike with a shaking hand. "Is forsaken by the Gods"

"Son before you act in favour of Gods, be sure you are of proper standing with your God" Father Thomas said that while pointing at the sky

When the drankard followed the direction of the hand, the little intoxication he had left quickly left his system. Up in the sky, clouds were brewing, as if preparing to release a massive lightning.

Ghrrrr

ghrr

Thunder came on cue, as if warning the onlookers of the potential harm that could befall them. Especially the Drunkard.

"Wh... Whaa.. What is that?"

"You already know what it is. Speak or do evil in the name of the divine being, you shall face punishment, possible death, as you can see"

Then Father Thomas turned his head and faced Nannia and Mike.

"As always, it is a pleasure to see you Nannia", Spoken with a soft voice, far softer than the one he used before. Nannia let go of the wheelchair Mike was on, shifted to the side, held her skirt then made a small bow.

"Pleasure to see Father Thomas, I extend my heartfelt thanks for your help". At this point, the once heated event has cooled out and everyone has started to disperse.

"No need to thank me, The Gods were ready to land a helping hand should anything have happened"

"Still, I feel gratitude towards the gesture" Going back behind Mike's wheelchair. "We best be leaving now, it is getting late"

When the Due passed father Thomas, He couldn't help but notice that they were headed in a direction opposite to the orphanage.

'Interesting, I guess the message God has showed me is related to that young lad over there'

Night time has come, Mike and Nannia have found a place to sleep for the night. It was nothing fancy but it could do the job.

The place had only a bed and table inside, there seemed to be no space for anything else even if they tried.

Troubled eyes glaring at the night sky sprayed with stars. Nannia knows all too well what is going to happen soon. Which death the Gods will administer the death penalty has always been random.

'It has been a good life, I regret nothing, all I can say is, thank heavens I am dying on my own terms with my devotions only laced upon myself. Goddess Raia has always been aloof one but still I thank her for her protection while I was her follower'

Words said and resolved reignited, she stood up and went to bed where Mike was laid down. Funny, out of all the children she has come across, good, bad, kind and pretentious, she has never found herself giving any of them as much care as she did Mike.

'I know hundreds of Gods have probably come to you with promises, but you still kept your resolve' she thought.

Which is true, Mike was a living miracle waiting to happen, if a God were to be associated with a miracle Boy who was a cripple, deaf and blind. Who wouldn't have their faith strengthened without any shake.

It might not seem like it, but most of the devotion the people have is nothing but fear. It was human nature to seek freedom even against the very being that gave you life, against one's parents and even against one's own habits. So the churches always had their holy hunters go out to find demons or some violent mystical beats to slay, resulting in the reinforcement of belief.

FOR GOD SO LOVED HIS CHILDREN THAT HE SHALL SPREAD HIS WINGS TO PROTECT THEM!

Suddenly a loud voice came from the outside, from the sound of it, he was speaking to a large mass of people.

"I know that Voice"

When Nannia was reaching out the window to check, a hand suddenly grabbed her hand. Startled by the sudden sensation she flinched. After quickly checking who's hand it is. Mike has woken up and sat up right. His blind lifeless eyes staring straight into her eyes. Making her shatter for a moment.

"Mike are you ok, did the voice voice wake you up?"

She asked these questions knowing full well that he couldn't hear her even if she tried.

"Thank You!"

*silence*

Disbelief was written all over Nannia's face. If she personally didn't take Mike for check ups and wasn't a light healer herself, she would have thought Mike has been secretly able to speak and see all this time but secretly chose not to.

"Mike, did y..."

Phaaam!

Something hit the door, interrupting her.

SO THE LORD BECAME OUR SHIELD, ALL HE NEED IS PRAISE

HAIL! HAIL! HAIL!

This time around a chant followed the words of the speaker. And by the sheer amount of volume and voices, you could hear that thousands upon thousands of people have come out. Which is odd for such a number of people at this time, as it was almost midnight.

Phaaaa! Phaaaa!

This time around whatever was used to hit the door has become even stronger. From the looks of it, soon the door will break.

"The world has forsaken me, the Gods only viewed me as a price but a threat as well. In this lonely world of mine, you had become my light of sanity"

As words were spoken by Mike, tears were streaming down his cheeks. He had always known a day like this would come, he always knew that for some whatever reason, Gods weren't able to do anything against a child, but as soon as a child reaches an appropriate age. If he is unaffiliated to any God, he or she will surely die. But what Mike wasn't expecting was Nannia actually forfeiting her life just to spend the last few hours with him. Even if she knew that she would surely die.

This reminds Mike of his parents. The God they praised was more fucked up that any he had ever seen. However fucked up this God was, he was truthful of his motives. He never had to act all holy for his parents to believe in him.

He just had to lock them up, along with other captives in a dome big enough for a city. In this City lived exactly 1001 occupants. This number never increased or decreased, As a new one was born, the oldest in the civilisation had to die. As a sacrifice to the new born. They believed the old's soul shall occupy the body of the young.
