"Stop," Renji said as he raised his hand.
"Are there enemies?"
Everyone in Team 7 immediately reacted. They drew their kunai and guarded Tazuna in the center.
Tazuna's expression became heavy as fear filled his eyes.
He was not afraid of death itself.
He feared dying before completing the bridge.
He wanted to finish the bridge so the people of the Land of Waves could finally live better lives.
"There's a lake," Renji said as he pointed forward.
"A lake?" Everyone looked confused.
Even Tazuna froze.
What was special about a lake?
"Teacher Renji, I noticed that lake earlier too. The enemy must be hiding inside it," Naruto said confidently while gripping his kunai and staring at the lake.
He secretly glanced at Sakura proudly.
Finally it was his moment to shine.
"Is the enemy inside the lake?" Sasuke and Sakura both looked at the water suspiciously.
It felt strange.
"Idiot, the enemy cannot predict our exact route. How could they just happen to be waiting inside the lake?" Sasuke replied coldly.
"Damn it, what did you say!" Naruto protested angrily.
"Enemy? You could say that. After all, the exam is the biggest enemy," Renji said with a smile as he clapped his hands.
"You've trained hard recently, so let's begin the final assessment now."
"Assessment? Walking on water?" Sakura Haruno asked in confusion.
"That's right," Renji nodded.
Everyone in Team 7 looked confused.
Why propose a Chakra control assessment during a mission?
"Hey, are you kidding me..." Naruto started to protest.
"Stop talking nonsense and take the test," Renji said as he grabbed Naruto and threw him directly into the lake.
Naruto flew through the air screaming before splashing heavily into the lake.
"Bastard, one day I'll teach you a lesson," Naruto shouted as he climbed up and knelt steadily on the surface of the water while looking like a drowned rat.
"Full marks," Renji said with satisfaction.
"Teacher Renji, we're still on a mission. The assessment can wait until we return," Sakura Haruno began to protest.
Before she could finish, Renji picked her up and threw her into the lake as well.
Sakura screamed as she flew through the air before splashing into the water.
Three seconds later she stood steadily on the surface while shivering slightly from the cold.
"So cold. Teacher Renji is so annoying."
"Very good," Renji said with satisfaction.
Sasuke looked at Naruto and Sakura standing in the water like drowned rats as his mouth twitched slightly.
"I'll jump in myself," Sasuke said quickly before stepping forward.
He felt something was strange.
Why would Teacher Renji suddenly hold a Chakra control assessment during a mission?
Renji was a Jonin.
There had to be a reason.
Wait.
Team 7 had not encountered any enemies so far.
Maybe they had been too cautious.
Teacher Renji must be using this assessment as bait to expose an opening and lure enemies out.
So that was the reason.
Sasuke walked toward the lake and turned back to glance at Renji with a look that clearly said he understood everything.
Then Sasuke stepped calmly onto the surface of the water.
[Team 7 has passed the final assessment, completing this Master-Disciple Mission.]
[Obtained mission reward: Rumble-Rumble Fruit ability (no side effects).]
