EVELYN'S POV
"Fuck!"
The model's face on the now glass pieces of the fancy lotion stared at me accusingly in broken shards. The knock on the door had startled me and I had knocked over half the makeup on my sister Loretta's vanity table.
"Whoever's knocking better be someone important" I murmured, already angry with the interrupting stranger already.
Shaking my ridiculously glittery gown and stepping away from the mess I'd made, I took a deep breath and in my most practiced, polite voice, I said- "come in" sweetly.
Silence. Then the handle turned slowly.
Only sheepish people opened doors like this, and I was right--it was the new maid Maria, and by the look on her face, she still didn't understand how Regan's household worked. Mother would have fired her on the spot.
"What do you want?" I asked in a snappy tone and in response, she bit her shaky lip.
