Chapter 2 - The Laughing Ghost of Maple Street

1.The Laughing Ghost of Maple Street

On a quiet little road called Maple Street, in a sleepy town near Salem, there stood an old blue house. The windows were cracked, the paint was peeling, and the neighbors said it had been empty for years.

But it wasn't empty.

It was occupied… by a ghost.

Now, before you imagine chains rattling and scary screams, let me tell you something important: this ghost was terrible at being scary.

His name was Mr. Boo.

Mr. Boo had been haunting the house for over a hundred years, but he had a big problem — every time he tried to say "Boooooo!" it came out as "Boo-hoo-hoo!" and sounded like he was laughing.

One windy evening, a brave (or maybe slightly foolish) boy named Tim decided to spend the night in the house. He had watched too many episodes of Scooby-Doo, Where Are You! and believed he was a professional ghost hunter.

"I ain't afraid of no ghost!" Tim said dramatically, even though he had never seen Ghostbusters.

As midnight struck, the lights flickered.

Mr. Boo floated down the stairs carefully, practicing his scary face in the mirror.

"This time," he whispered, "I will be terrifying."

He appeared behind Tim and shouted—

"BOO-HOO-HOO!"

Tim turned around.

They stared at each other.

Then Tim blinked.

"Are you… laughing?" he asked.

Mr. Boo tried again.

"BOO-HOO-HOO!"

Tim burst out laughing. "You sound like Santa Claus!"

Mr. Boo was offended. "I am a fearsome spirit! I haunted this house before your great-great-grandfather was born!"

Tim crossed his arms. "Prove it. Float scarier."

So Mr. Boo tried spinning. He bumped into a chandelier. He tried rattling chains. They got tangled. He attempted a dramatic wall pass — and got stuck halfway through.

Tim had to push him out.

After a long, awkward silence, Mr. Boo sighed. "Maybe I'm not meant to scare people."

Tim thought for a moment. "You know… you're actually kind of funny."

And that's how Mr. Boo became the world's first Stand-Up Ghost.

Every Friday night, brave kids would visit the blue house, not to scream — but to laugh.

And if you ever walk down Maple Street at midnight, you might hear a strange sound floating through the air:

"Boo-hoo-hoo!"

But don't worry.

That's just Mr. Boo… working on his comedy routine. 👻
