Chapter 3 - Chapter 3: Feeding.

Sofia and Alex walked hand in hand, through the Oak Lake Park, a nice little park near the UNL Campus, which had forested trails around a man-made lake. They talked a bit as they walked, before Alex put down a quilt on the half-frozen ground, overlooking the lake, and the pair sat down. This was their hang-out spot, their little romantic get-away they liked to sneak away too, to be just them.

-"I'm sorry if I worried you, Alex, but I am fine, really..." Sofia said, as she sat in his arms, leaning back against him.

"How can you be fine, Sofia? You were attacked.. and vandalized..." Alex said in return, burrowing his face in his girlfriend's hair, hugging her tightly.

-"Well... I'm feeling a lot better now, now that you're with me~" Sofia responded, playfully nudging him with her forehead. And it was true, she was feeling fine, except for this strange hunger still plaguing her mind. A hunger which only seemed to worsen as night progressed and the moon started to rise. She turned slightly, facing Alex, looking up at him.

-"I do love you. So very much, Alex." she said, and she meant every word. This was the man of her dreams. Handsome, kind, gentle but firm and authoritative when it mattered, which was sexy, and most of all, he was heads over heels with her and treated her like a Queen. Flowers, gifts, movies. They wanted the same things in life. Travel a bit after university, then find jobs, settle down, work to get a mortgage, get a house, have three children.

"I love you to, Sofia." Alex said, and with a finger on her chin, he raised her face up, before he leaned down to plant a kiss on her lips. He had been a bit reserved against making any moves, seeing she was just out of the hospital after being assaulted, but she seemed to be in the mood, and boy if she was.

She kissed him back, almost desperately, a hand running up along his back and to the back of his head, as she meshed their lips together. He was intoxicating. When did he ever start to taste so bloody good? He had been a good kisser before, naturally, but something was different today. His taste was different. Warm, hot, delicious... it stirred something within her, and she attacked his lips even more, even nibbling gently at them, and finding herself wondering in the back of her mind what it would feel like to bite just a little bit harder... draw just a little bit of blood...

"Sofia, I don't know what's gotten into you... but I like it." Alex said daringly, having parted just briefly to speak, before Sofia was over him again. She shuffled around, now straddling his lap as she kissed him wildly, the nibbles on his lips growing more and more intense. She had never come onto him this strong before, but he was all for it.

"Easy.. easy! I can barely breathe." he said in a chuckle, pulling back from her. Instead, she leaned in towards his neck, burying her face against the nape of his neck, smelling him deeply.

-"God, you smell so good tonight, Alex.. what are you using?" she managed to say, as she found herself pressing her lips and nose against the skin along his throat, sighing deeply. She couldn't get enough of it, of this heat, this taste. It just felt too good. Too right...

"Nothing. No I mean it, I didn't have time to put any cologne on. I just went straight to your place..." Alex said, squeezing the woman in his arms, his hands sliding down towards her rump, coming to rest there, holding her in place, tilting his head and giving her access to his neck.

-"Really, because you taste... divine..." Sofia let out, as she playfully bit into his neck. She could feel it, the heat rushing just beneath her teeth, the Jugular vein, supplying the brain with blood directly from the heart. She heard it, his heartbeat, pumping that warm... juicy blood throughout his body. So close.. so dangerously close. There was a brief, single moment when she paused, to reflect on how weird it was, having these thoughts, but the lone voice of reason was soon drowned out by the primal urge to feed. Playful bites began to turn into more proper one, and she felt a weird sting along her upper canine teeth, as if they were expanding and growing, but she paid that no heed. Soon enough, she sunk her teeth into his neck properly, and he let out a little yelp and a nervous laugh.

"Ow, Sofia... enough, that hurt..." he said, but she did not stop. She could taste it now, his blood. It was the best thing she had ever tasted in her entire life. Nothing could even come close to the high she was experiencing. She was walking on clouds, the world at her feet, as swallowed a small mouthful of his blood. This was what she needed. This is what she was hungry for. Just another little taste, and she'd stop. Or so she told herself.

"Sofia, enough! What are you..." Alex began, and tried to pry her head off her, but she was surprisingly stubborn. She had her arms and legs locked around him, as her teeth buried deeper into his neck, finding the jugular, and drinking deeply. She wanted to stop. Part of her did, at least. Knew it was not safe. She was hurting him. But the other, newer, more primal side of her, it could not resist. He tasted so good! She loved him so much. Loved this. Loved his blood!

"GET OFF!" he shouted, feeling a bit scared, and gripped his girlfriend by the hairs, janking her head a back with force. What he saw horrified him. Sofia's jaw and mouth were completely covered with his blood. His blood. What's worth, her eyes, normally a light blue color, seemed to shine unnaturally red. Beyond that, he had thought she would come to her senses, but she didn't. Immediately she lashed out at him with far more force than such a petite body should be able to muster, pushing him down into the ground, holding his arms above his head with both her hands.

If it wasn't for the fact that she was literally eating him, he might have even found it be quite sexy. But the woman who was on top of him now, he barely recognized. Her eyes shone with a kind of hunger he had never once seen before in his entire life, and she quickly got back to his neck, lapping up the warm blood with her tongue before sinking her teeth into him again.

"Please... Sofia... stop! Someone... help... me..." he whispered, feeling his strength fading. But Sofia didn't stop. She couldn't.

Sofia woke up to banging on her door. It was Rachel.

"Sofia! You are going to miss class!" Rachel shouted, and Sofia slowly stirred. Everything was a blur, but she felt rather good. Full, satisfied. It was only when she sat up and looked down at herself, that she realized to her horror she was entirely covered in blood! She was still in her jacket, and it was stained entirely red! So were her hands, and likely her face.

-"Uhm, I'm not feeling all that great! You can go ahead without me!" Sofia called back, hiding quickly in bed as Rachel opened the door, looking inside.

"You okay, Sofia? You went to bed very early last night. You sure you should have come back from the hospital?" Rachel asked, concern in her voice.

-"Yeah yeah, just.. under the weather. Don't mind me, please..." Sofia answered, still hiding under her blankets.

Rachel relented and closed the door, and a minute later, the front door closed and locked. Surprisingly, Sofia could even hear Rachel as she walked down the corridor, and went down the stairs. She could hear a lot, from people talking outside, many stories below, to the news anchor from the upstairs neighbor's TV talking about the news. What was going on? She furrowed her brows, thinking deep and hard. She had been with Alex last night. She recalled them taking a walk, and kissing... a lot of kissing, deep kissing... but after that, it was all just a blank.

She reached for her phone, and tried to call Alex, clearly worried, but just went straight to voicemail. So she texted him, asking him if he was alright, if anything had happened. Then, she practically tore off her bloodied jacket and and jeans, dumped them in the trashcan, and headed into the bathroom to shower. She washed the blood off her body, watching as the waters turned a pinkish red as it swirled down the drain. The shower felt... okay. Neither hot nor warm really, which was a bit odd since the temperature was set to high.

After the disappointing shower, she headed towards the mirror, to check that she had gotten all the blood off her body, when she made a startling discovery. There was no reflection of her in the mirror. None at all. She thought she was going crazy at first, and moved to wipe the fog of the mirror, but still nothing. Naturally, this freaked her out, and she stumbled back against the bathroom door. As she was standing there, thinking she should be panting in a panic, she made the second startling discovery. She wasn't even breathing! Panic was starting to set in, and she once again realized she could hear extremely well. Neighbors TV's, their voices as they talked, the honking of cars really far away. If she really applied herself, she could even pick up the faint drumming of the heartbeats of the other residents in this building.

However... there was one thing missing in this picture. Her own heartbeat...
