Chapter 8 - ∘∞ওꕥTurning the Blame ∘∞ওꕥ

Jay Jays POV ❁❁❁

The interrogation room felt smaller than usual.

Yuri sat across from me, leaning back in the chair like this was all just a normal conversation. One arm rested on the table while the other tapped against it slowly.

Angelo stood near the wall behind me, his arms crossed.

Neither of us looked away from Yuri.

"Let's try this again," Angelo said calmly. "Where were you between 10:00 and 10:20?"

Yuri sighed like he had already been asked the same question too many times.

"I already told you," he said. "I was walking."

"Walking where?" I asked.

"Outside."

"That's not an answer."

He shrugged.

"Maybe I needed air."

Angelo stepped forward a little.

"There's a twenty minute gap in your timeline," he said. "You expect us to believe you were just walking around?"

Yuri looked down at the table for a second.

Then he laughed.

Not loudly.

Just a short, quiet laugh.

I frowned.

"What's funny?"

Yuri looked back up at me.

"You're questioning the wrong person."

The room went silent.

Angelo's voice lowered slightly.

"Then who should we be questioning?"

Yuri didn't answer right away.

Instead, his eyes slowly moved across the room.

Then they stopped.

Right on me.

"Keifer," he said.

My eyebrows pulled together.

"Keifer?"

"Yes."

Angelo didn't react, but I could feel the tension in the room change.

"Explain," he said.

Yuri leaned forward now, resting his elbows on the table.

"After the argument," he said, "everyone started leaving the mansion."

"That matches the other statements," I said.

"But Keifer stopped."

I blinked.

"What do you mean he stopped?"

"He said he forgot something," Yuri replied.

Angelo narrowed his eyes.

"And?"

"And he went back inside."

Silence filled the room.

I glanced at Angelo for a second before looking back at Yuri.

"You're saying Keifer went back into the mansion alone?"

Yuri nodded slowly.

"Yep."

"What did he forget?" I asked.

He shrugged.

"No idea."

"That seems convenient," Angelo said.

Yuri leaned back again.

"Maybe," he said. "But it is what happened."

My mind started racing.

If Keifer really went back inside…

that would mean he had the opportunity.

I pushed my chair back and stood up.

Angelo looked at me.

For a second, neither of us spoke.

Then I looked toward the door.

"Bring Keifer in."
