Chapter 18 - Chapter 18-" A New Morning, A New Turn!"

Some mornings feel unique even before they really start. It's as if there's a quiet change in the atmosphere... As if time has begun to slow down. Today was one of those mornings. Outside the window, the sky showed a light blue hue. The sun hadn't fully risen yet, but its light was slowly waking up the city. Anaya's eyes suddenly opened.

The clock read six o'clock.

For a moment, she lay still, staring at the ceiling.

Her heart fluttered with an unusual feeling.

The conversation she had with her mother...

That kept replaying in her mind.

Aarav's family...

Their talk about the engagement.

Just thinking about it made her sit up slowly.

A slight chill filled the room.

She opened the window wide.

A fresh breeze rushed in.

She took a deep breath.

Sometimes, life begins to change quietly... and we only notice it later on. Perhaps today was one of those days.

Sounds were coming from the kitchen downstairs.

Mother must have woken up early today.

Anaya realized what that meant right away.

Preparations were already underway in their home.

She made her way downstairs slowly.

A sweet smell wafted from the kitchen.

Mother was making something special.

"Oh, you're up so early today?" Mother said with a smile.

Anaya returned a faint smile— "I just woke up."

Looking at her, Mother added—

"There is going to be quite a bit of work today."

Anaya understood what she meant.

"The boy's family is coming over…" Though Mother didn't say it out loud, both of them knew what it meant.

Dad seemed a bit different today. He held the newspaper but wasn't reading it. Instead, he glanced at Anaya from time to time as if he was lost in thought.

During breakfast, Dad suddenly remarked— "How quickly time flies."

Anaya looked at him. It was just a simple statement… but it carried so much weight behind it.

Mom chuckled softly— "Don't get too emotional just yet."

Dad smiled too. But at that moment, they both sensed that something new was starting in their home.

After breakfast, things got busier around the house.

Sofa cushions were being fluffed up. The table was being set nicely. Mom kept moving between the kitchen and dining area.

Anaya watched for a while before retreating back to her room.

It felt peaceful there.

This was where she had written her first story… her first chapter… where she had made her first earnings. Today, that same room stood witness to another turning point in her life.

Her eyes landed on the diary resting on the table. She flipped it open and saw what she had written last night: "The most beautiful chapters are yet to be written." She smiled softly to herself. "Maybe one of them will begin today…" she pondered just then when a notification chimed on her phone—a message from Aarav: "Good morning." A gentle smile appeared on Anaya's face as she quickly replied— "Good morning."

A few seconds later came another message— "Everyone at your house must have woken up early today."

Anaya giggled softly— "Yes… preparations have been going since morning."

"That was expected," Aarav typed back. "Both families must be feeling nervous today, I guess."

Anaya stared at her screen for a moment before typing— "Are you nervous?"

For a brief second, the 'typing' indicator blinked before Aarav responded— "A little… honestly."

"Why?" Anaya asked curiously.

His reply came quickly— "Because today isn't just about our families meeting… it's also when we'll decide our next steps in life."

Anaya paused for a few seconds in silence.

Then she typed—

"I feel a little odd, too."

"Odd? What do you mean?" Aarav asked. "It's like everything is happening so quickly… but it feels right."

After a moment, she received a reply—

"Maybe that's just how good things happen sometimes."

"They take time to settle in… but they feel right."

A small smile appeared on Anaya's face.

She typed back—

"You're discussing some pretty serious stuff today."

Aarav responded right away—

"Today is kind of an important day… that's why."

Then he added another message—

"By the way, can I share something with you?"

"Yes?" Anaya replied.

"If everything feels a bit new today… don't worry.

It's a first for both of us, after all."

Anaya smiled gently.

She wrote—

"Yes… maybe that's exactly why this day will be unforgettable."

A few seconds later, Aarav messaged her again—

"Well then… see you tonight."

The afternoon gradually shifted into evening. The house was now fully prepared.

Mother handed Anaya a light, beautiful saree.

"Put this on." Anaya checked her reflection in the mirror.

Today, she looked different.

It felt like life was slowly shaping her into a new role.

Yet, deep down, she remained the same girl—

the one who used to stay up late writing quietly by herself.

Around 5 PM, the doorbell rang.

The house went quiet for a moment.

Mother opened the door.

Aarav stood there with his parents.

Simple, calm…

and wearing that familiar gentle smile.

For a brief moment, Anaya and Aarav locked eyes.

There was an unusual sense of peace in that instant.

As if they both knew this day would forever be remembered.

Everyone took their seats.

The conversation started off casually,

but there was an underlying feeling of hesitation in the air.

Mother asked Anaya to bring the tea.

She returned with the tray in hand,

her hand shaking slightly as she set down the cups.

Aarav spoke softly—

"Relax… everything is okay."

His words were meant for more than just the tea.

Eventually, they began discussing what was really at stake. Aarav's mother smiled and said—

"We talked to our priest and he has suggested a lucky date for the engagement ceremony next month.

If you all agree, shall we confirm that date?"

The atmosphere in the room felt heavier. "

Anaya's father spoke up—

"Let's ask Anaya first."

All eyes turned toward her.

In that moment, time seemed to stand still.

Anaya looked gently at Aarav.

There was no pressure in his gaze… only trust.

Anaya said softly—

"I have no objections." His voice was steady... yet clear. Smiles spread across the room. Mom's eyes showed relief. Dad looked proud. And Aarav... He simply smiled gently. Sweets arrived. Laughter followed. The mood became lighthearted, as if they had just settled an important milestone.

Once night fell and everyone had left... That same silence returned to the house.

But this time, it felt different.

Now it carried hope.

Later that night, Anaya stood by the window.

The stars sparkled brightly in the sky. She grabbed her phone. A message from Aarav appeared—

"So... officially a future writer and Mrs...?" Anaya chuckled.

"Let's not rush into things just yet." He replied— "Okay... but one thing is certain." "What?" "As of today, your story just got even more exciting." Anaya thought to herself— Perhaps, Life was about to write a whole new chapter.

She grabbed her diary.

And wrote—

"Sometimes, life doesn't just put us at a crossroads with two choices...

It also lets us explore both choices at the same time."

She stared at that line for a moment.

Then, she smiled gently.

Maybe...

Her story was not just about her own dreams anymore.

Another character had stepped into the tale.

And the story...

Had become a little bit more lovely.
