A new day dawned, but it brought only the painful weight of stress. They had lost this fight, defeated in the two-day battle against the clones. Yet, giving up was not an option; they would not fall back. Every surviving operative returned to the headquarters, their expressions heavy with dread.
Inside the headquarters' main conference hall, the atmosphere was suffocating. Veer stood before his team, taking a deep breath to steady his voice before addressing them.
"Before starting, I want to apologize for my mistake," Veer began, his voice laced with regret. "I could not handle this case, and now it is very difficult to save the country. We don't know what they do to the people who are being converted into clones. But I am assuring you, we will find the one behind this."
Suddenly, the central display flickered to life. The stern face of the Prime Minister appeared on the screen, his expression dark with fury.
"You all are a failure!" the Prime Minister barked from the screen. "I provided everything to you—and more than everything! But you failed. We can't even stop people from going out of New Delhi, as it is the capital."
Shivansh clenched his fists, unable to hold back his frustration. "How can you say like that, Sir?!" he interjected defensively. "You know Chief and our other partners were fighting the clones continuously for two days! And we lost some of our comrades, too!"
"Shivansh!" Veer cut in sternly, raising a firm hand. "Stop talking like that. Respect everyone—they are also right. They gave us everything, and this was the very important time to stop them because now they can easily conquer our country."
The Prime Minister scowled through the feed. "Shut up, you piece of crap! I just want all four crore people in India to remain safe. It's my duty to see how my country's people are, what they need, and I gave you the order for this as I believed you. Do your work sincerely! I don't want these types of mistakes."
"Sorry for the problem, Sir," Veer replied, lowering his head slightly.
Jataksha stepped forward toward the transmission line. "Sir! I will get some police officers for patrolling in every street."
Sammriddhi spoke up next, adjusting her technical files. "Sir, I want that my research of RS-01 should be produced more by the companies, because this is the only thing which can get you rid from the clones for ten minutes."
"I will do that," the Prime Minister agreed coldly. "But this time, don't fail yourself."
"Yes, Sir. Have a great day," Veer said.
The call disconnected from the Prime Minister, and the monitor went dark.
Shadows of Suspicion
Sammriddhi let out a loud sigh, leaning back in her chair. "Hayy! Finally, meeting over. I was feeling bored today."
Jataksha turned to her with an annoyed look. "Go and work on how to try to control this clone thing!"
"How rude!" Sammriddhi snapped back, crossing her arms defensively. "I was working for eight days continuously and recklessly, but you are saying all this!"
Anmol chimed in, "What are you saying..."
Before Anmol could finish his sentence, Veer abruptly cut him off.
"Ahem! Yeah, she was working recklessly," Veer said smoothly, his eyes narrowing slightly. "And I am letting you go for a holiday for today."
Sammriddhi smiled happily. "Yeah, thanks, Chief!" Without wasting another second, Sammriddhi got out of the conference hall.
As soon as the heavy doors clicked shut, Jataksha turned to Veer in complete disbelief. "Chief! Are you serious? You send her on leave in such a crucial time?!"
Shivansh smirked, shaking his head. "That's okay if you are in love with her, but please don't overdo it."
"Shut up! It's not like that what you are thinking," Veer snapped back. "First, I don't love her, and second... she is not Sammriddhi."
Silence instantly gripped the room. Everyone in the conference hall was shocked.
"This is something more than I thought," Veer explained grimly, his tone turning cold. "Usually, criminals try to come in direct contact from the police, agents, or anything—and now, I can't believe anyone."
"What the hell are you saying?!" Jataksha gasped.
Veer turned toward Anmol. "Anmol, can you please check all the CCTV camera footages of the Headquarters?"
Anmol nodded immediately. "Yes, Sir. I will tell Hardik to take out the CCTV footages and give it to you in your office."
Jataksha was still struggling to process the revelation. "Veer! How can you say that Sammriddhi is a clone we are with?"
"Of course she is a clone," Veer replied with absolute confidence. "And you should also know by seeing her. She loves to do all the scientific work, and she did not take any leave if there is no emergency as per her detail—I have seen in her previous detail. Don't think I have not seen everyone's previous details when I joined this."
Shivansh stroked his chin, digesting the strategy. "So how will we gonna see who are clones and who are not?"
"I did not expect something from camera footage," Veer admitted, "but we all should discuss our very private talks to each other, so we get to know who does everyone know each other or not."
Jataksha looked anxious. "What about Shiven and Khushi?"
"What are you talking about?" Veer countered. "They don't know when both of them were talking about their old time. When the loop was fading, our earpods got connected, and all of their talks we have listened. They both are real ones."
Shivansh sighed heavily. "True, but Rahul's condition is worse, And we don't know about Karan and Rahul much, and even Hardik."
"Rahul is no more working with us," Veer stated quietly. "When I was in hospital and go to meet him, the doctor said his tongue is not there... which means he cannot talk and work with us now. And about Karan and Hardik, they will be in the headquarters—we cannot take anyone out of this Headquarters."
The Retreat Strategy
"Then how will we work, then?" Shivansh asked, folding his arms.
"We are leaving the headquarters," Veer declared firmly. "This damn rival is really more intelligent than I thought. But... I also have not used my full intelligence in this."
Jataksha stared at him. "Then where will we go?"
Shivansh chuckled quietly, recognizing the look in his Chief's eyes. "He don't do anything without any plan."
"Of course," Veer smiled faintly. "I was already ready for these circumstances. But I know there is someone like me—some intelligence who don't get herself in a problem. We will be going to her. She was working with me in the old case where we were finding the rival of Earth. She had worked with me... she is more intelligent than all of you."
Jataksha nodded in agreement. "As you have led that case and she was working with you, then of course she is intelligent than us."
Shivansh looked at Veer with a curious brow. "Then why don't you call her when you all were fighting in Delhi?"
"She is intelligent and good at firing," Veer explained, "but she has never fought in the place like that where everything is blasted and difficult to save ourselves. Even I think if I died, she is the only one who is capable to take my position right now."
Shivansh's eyes widened in surprise. "Damn, is she so good?!"
"Yeah!" Veer added. "As she was also our childhood friend."
Shivansh and Jataksha threw their hands up, groaning together in exhaustion, "Not again!..."
The team that, at the starting, was looking great was now struggling with the great position.
Unseen Enemies
Meanwhile, deep within an undisclosed location, a encrypted audio link hummed to life.
"Boss: Mr. A, I have done everything that you have said. We have acquired the Headquarters as you already know."
Across the static-heavy line, a sinister voice delivered a final, chilling directive:
"Mr. A: I want you to find someone?"
