Chapter 18 - 18

Axiom waited out in space for a while, expecting Earth to explode, but as time passed, he began to hate how he couldn't save his first and only subordinate. He hated how the only way he could save himself was to run.

This anger and hatred empowered his ki as he released it to calm himself, reaching the heights of Frieza's power and slightly beyond.

But unbeknownst to Axiom, a group that had lost their leader a few years ago noticed the power spike — one that seemed to match their previous leader's — and they were going to investigate.

Aside from that, Axiom had calmed down from his earlier anger and was now able to think logically. Earth hadn't been destroyed, and Cell was supposed to self-destruct half an hour ago.

Flying back to where Cell had threatened to blow himself up, he found only a small crater. Surely that couldn't be all that Cell's explosion amounted to, could it?

Focusing his senses, he tried to detect strong powers, sensing a few at the Lookout.

Flying over to the Lookout, he arrived just in time to see Android 18 brutally reject Krillin. Landing next to Gohan, he asked, "What happened with Cell?"

Gohan looked up at him. "Huh? Oh, I defeated Cell with Dad."

Axiom looked around for Goku, not seeing him. "Where's Goku?"

Gohan looked saddened for a moment before responding. "He teleported Cell away when he self-destructed and sacrificed himself. But hopefully we can revive him with the Dragon Balls." Deep down, Gohan knew Goku couldn't be revived — not a second time at least — but he still hoped.

Axiom looked at Gohan and huffed. "Then revive him already."

At those words, Popo brought out the Dragon Balls, summoning Shenron.

Yamcha stepped forward, saying the first wish. "Please bring back everyone Cell killed!"

Shenron's eyes glowed as he granted the wish. "You may have another wish. State it now."

When the wish was granted, Trunks rose from the ground, having been revived.

Piccolo noted that he could feel Goku's ki, meaning he hadn't been revived.

Yamcha asked Shenron to revive Goku, only for Shenron to say he couldn't grant that wish and to ask for a different one.

All of a sudden, Goku's voice echoed in all of their minds, telling them that he was content with being dead and even sounding cheerful that he got to keep his body.

The rest of the Z-Fighters looked a little sad before Axiom looked up at Shenron, who was waiting for another wish.

"Oh, mighty Shenron, may I ask a question without it counting as a wish?"

The Z-Fighters froze before sighing in relief. Thankfully, Axiom wasn't going to take the wish from them.

Shenron thought for a moment, seeing no harm in a single question while the others considered a wish. "You may."

Axiom looked at the others, slightly uncomfortable with revealing a secret. Most of the Z-Fighters got the hint, dragging those who didn't away from earshot.

Axiom looked back at Shenron. "Will my DNA mold into something new, or will it always be a mishmash of different pieces of DNA?"

Shenron thought for a moment, peering into Axiom's body with his permission. "Yes. By the time you grow up, it will mold into something uniquely you." Shenron's tone softened slightly, aware that this kind of information was sensitive, especially with how wary they were after Cell.

Axiom nodded. "Thank you," before flying away, not knowing that two people had heard everything: Piccolo, who had enhanced hearing, and Android 18, who was hiding behind a pillar, terrified that there was another bio-android.

Returning to Kukki's house, Axiom went inside, seeing Kukki cooking. Strange — she should have been at work at this moment.

Axiom knocked on the kitchen doorway to let her know he was there. She didn't flinch anymore, having grown used to his presence.

Axiom floated up, looking at what she was making. "I'll be here less," Axiom informed her bluntly, making her pause for a second.

"Why...?" She was confused, but after Cell, she thought that maybe Axiom felt like he needed to get stronger — which she was right about.

"Cell proved that I was not strong enough. And even if I can't train hard because of my age, I can still train my usage of ki." Axiom felt it was regrettable to leave her alone for long periods of time — not that she would get attacked, but because staying with her was the only reason she let him live with her.

This seemed to slightly upset Kukki, but she got over it. She had expected it, after all, and she couldn't fault his desire to get stronger.

Axiom went over to the table and sat down in a nearby chair, waiting for his food.

__

While eating, he thought back on his decision to gain a biological body, absolutely loving the choice he had made almost two weeks ago.

Finishing his food, he thanked Kukki and left to train, thinking that maybe Goku's first master knew how to train children.
