The 541 Patrol Team's first patrol mission ended in a torrential downpour.
This mission finally taught these inexperienced soldiers just how terrifying a primeval forest could be.
It began to rain on their third day in the forest. It started as a storm, which eased into a heavy downpour after a day. Two days later, it became a moderate rain, which held for another two days before turning into a ceaseless, fine drizzle. After ten days of rain, the sky finally cleared, and the group breathed a collective sigh of relief.
Even though they had made preparations, marching through a curtain of rain every day rendered them all but useless. Their clothes were constantly drenched. If not for the two spare sets of clothing each of them had brought—which at least allowed them to be dry for a third of the day—and the ample supply of ginger they used to brew soup to ward off the cold, they would have certainly collapsed in the forest.
