Li Mubo deftly mixed the formula. The old lady snatched the bottle, tested the temperature, and then held the baby to feed him. Watching the baby's little mouth suckle away happily, the expression on her face softened considerably.
Looking at her second grandson, the old lady felt a pang of bitterness. 'This child didn't get a good father or mother,' she thought. 'Otherwise, he wouldn't have been starved like this.'
Once the baby finished the entire bottle, the old lady skillfully held him upright and patted his back. A moment later, he let out a milky burp. When she cradled him in her arms again, the little one's eyes narrowed. He gave a tiny yawn, and his eyes slowly closed.
Li Mubo tried to take the baby to put him on the bed so his mother could continue eating. But the moment the baby was in his arms, his eyes shot open, his mouth widened, and he began to wail.
