Chapter 3 - Micheal Donovan’s pov

My heart raced in my chest as I paced around the office from left to right, one hand akimbo while the other massaged my temples, rubbing against the beads of sweat that covered my forehead.

"At least take a seat—"

"Now is not the time to tell me to be calm!" I shut Devine out. He was seated on the couch, resting the weight of his elbow and upper body on his knees.

"I know you feel pressured and you're scared—"

"Scared?! Never use that word on me …" I spat at him.

"Can you calm the fuck down Micheal?! I know what's at stake, you're being agitated and this can't help us at all—"

There came a knock on the door, "Come in!" I yelled from the inside waiting to see who that was and if they had some more bad news to bear.

"Good morning sir!" Shirley greeted look pale and nervous. "Good morning, Mr Devine."

"What now?" I asked.

"Sir … I just wanted to let you know that the police have reopened the case of Mr Leonardo Fibonacci and the investigation is on going." The entire room went quiet immediately after those words slipped out of her lips.

She awkwardly darted her eyes at both me and Devine, expecting to hear what we had to say, meanwhile I was tightening my clenched fist, fighting to hold myself back from spitting the most brutal words at her. Before I could open my mouth to say anything, Devine immediately got up, "We heard about that…" he started as he slowly approached her. Then he placed his hand on my shoulder and gripped on it to calm me down I suppose, "It's all over the news, all we should be doing right now is plotting on the next step to take."

Shirley let out a sigh of relief, "Sir is there any way I can be of assistance?"

"Err you can —"

"No." I interrupted Devine. I could feel Devine's gaze fall on me, "No … I don't need you to do anything for now, when you're needed, I'll let you know. For now get back to work."

Shirley bowed her head slightly before making her way out of the office. Immediately the door clutch shut, Devine turned to me with a firm look in his eyes, "What was that?"

I turned around and took a seat, "I don't know what you're talking about." I muttered.

"You're being arrogant, it's none of my business though, but at least it shouldn't be towards Shirley, she's you're assistant, she's knows everything about you and makes sure everything concerning this company is in order."

"Why do you care so much?"

"Why do I care so much? I care because I care about you and this company…"

"Now two things are involved, either Shirley is the blackmailer and you're working with her, or… you're in love with her." Devine let out a forced uncomfortable chuckle, "Oh wow… your paranoia has really digressed."

"Now is the time to speak up…"

"can we just focus? First of all we need to get our hands on what evidence this blackmailer guy submitted."

"So what if they call me in for questioning… again? And then there's the whole subpoena process."

"That can be taken care of. I'm gonna pay a visit to the station to find out how far that piece of evidence can go."

I sprang off my seat and rushed to Devine, grabbing him by his necktie, "Wh— what is wrong with you?!" He yelped.

"I remember you vividly telling me that every piece of evidence has been destroyed! So where did this come from?" I said through my gritted teeth. Devine grabbed on my fist and arm, "Donovan… please."

"If this shit doesn't go well? I promise you, you're gonna have to say goodbye to some of the things you care about the most too." His jaw dropped in shock, "Donovan, we will get to the bottom of this… I promise."

"well, that's up to you now." I said to him as I pushed him forcefully and let go. He rubbed on his neck and adjusted his tie, "You have a bad temper, Micheal." He muttered as he grabbed his suitcase, "I'll keep you updated."

I watched him walk out the door, while trying to catch my breath. After taking a glass of water to calm my nerves, I immediately started working but after a few hours i noticed I had nothing done simply because I kept loosing focus. To distract myself from all this drama, I grabbed my phone hoping to reach Lana and luckily for me, she was available.

"Why are you calling me?" She started with an attitude.

"Good day to you too, Lana." I grumbled a greeting, "I know you're upset with me, I want to make it up to you."

"Oh wow… so now that you have a leading role in the scandal you want to drag me through your mess too."

"That's not true."

"I don't care! You've been ignoring me for weeks now, as much as this can ruin your career, it can ruin mine too so please if you don't mind, I have brand deals to sign."

"Baby I'm sorry."

"Saying sorry won't change anything."

"I know, just let me show you how sorry I am then, please just let me make it up to you."

"hmmm … Micheal …"

"Meet me at hotel Amethyst. Let's spend some time together and have dinner … what do you say?"

"Hmm… hmm okay fine. Fine." I heard the excitement through her voice and it was perfect.

****

"Ahhh… fuck!" She whimpered as I gently burrowed myself in and out of her slowly.

"Do you like that?" I whispered fiercely in her ears feeling the hair follicles on her skin erupt, forming little bumps all over. At every thrust in, she would whimper softly.

I pulled her over the bed, bending her back in even lower then gripped in her waist, "Take it easy…" she whispered but I played deaf ears, the aim of all of this was to distract myself from everything that was going on but that didn't seem to be working at all so I pounded harder, harder and even harder.

"Micheal…. Take … it… easy…" she whimpered at each thrust. But once again, I ignored, I tightened my grip and pounded even harder, groaning loudly. I could feel her finger nails digging into my flesh, As she whimpered extra loudly, "Mic… pleas…"

Immediately, I heard the vibration of my cellphone ringing and when I turned to it, it was a call from the same unknown number, I was astonished. I thought it was all over initially, I thought this person had already made up their mind to ruin me.

I immediately pulled away from Lana and dived onto my phone to get it while she fell to the floor, "Hello?!"

"'Took ya long enough to take the call."

"I'm so sorry about that, why are you calling? Haven't you already given everything up to the cops? The investigation has been reopened."

"Aww, it's cute that you actually fell for that, I'm not that dumb, I did that to show you how serious I am about this, moreover I want something in exchange and you have to comply time, unless you want me to submit the real deal to the cops. Think of what you have to loose, I'm giving you a second chance."

"w— wait… hold on… what do you want?!"

"I'll send you a location, meet me there in the next 30 minutes."

"30 minutes?!"

"Better don't mess this up the same way you did the last time, come alone!"

"W-air hold on—" before I could finish, the call was over.

"What is wrong with you Micheal?!" Lara yelled from the floor. I hurried towards her and helped her up, "What is wrong with you?— in fact who is that?"

"I'm sorry …." I grabbed my trousers on the bed and slid it up to my waist while Lara stared at me like I was some weird creature.

"What are you doing?" She asked.

"I have to go meet someone… urgently and it's important." I said to her as I buttoned up my shirt.

"We didn't even finish! were you trying to hurt me? You were going too hard and I'm certain you cut me."

I grabbed my suit and put it on, "I'll call you." I said to her as I stepped out of the room.

"Micheal!" She yelled from the inside. I had already slammed the door shut and was headed out while her loud screams echoed through the hallway.
