Chapter 25 - Cynthia Watches “Genesis of Arceus”

"This video is purely hypothetical. There is currently insufficient evidence to support it."

The disclaimer came first as always—full armor, max defense.

Yet Cynthia caught a subtle difference in "Shui Ye's" wording compared to his previous videos.

Before, his opening line was always the same:

"This video is artistically adapted; any resemblance is purely coincidental."

But this time, he said, "insufficient evidence to support it."

Which implied… evidence might be discovered in the future?

Did this guy actually believe his theory could be true?

After the opening line, the screen fell into complete darkness.

"In Alliance Calendar Year 172, a twenty-year-old Samuel Oak first proposed the concept of types in the journal Celadon, advocating for categorizing Pokémon by type."

"This widely known, monumental discovery is considered the beginning of modern Pokémon studies."

"But have you ever thought about this question—what is the origin of types?"

"Or, going deeper… what is the origin of all things?"

The narrator's voice was clear and gentle, and Cynthia quickly found herself drawn into the question.

To be honest, it wasn't unfamiliar.

It was almost the same ultimate question people asked after realizing how vast the starry sky was—

What is the meaning of the universe?

"Obviously, no one can give an accurate answer."

"But perhaps the existence of this Legendary Pokémon can offer you some insight."

A sudden light split the darkness.

A statue appeared—something between a sheep and a horse, yet possessing a sacred, awe-inspiring presence.

"Arceus—a Legendary Pokémon revered by the people of Sinnoh since ancient times as the Great One, worshipped for generations… yet still shrouded in mystery."

"Of course, I prefer to call it… the Creator of All Things."

And with that, a majestic creation epic unfurled.

"…"

"The Earth Plate raised the planet's backbone."

"The Zap Plate shattered into the first primal lightning."

"The Insect Plate trembled, birthing the code of life."

"…"

The Thousand Arms shattered into eighteen Plates, and the power within those Plates nurtured everything in the universe—

including Pokémon of eighteen different types, each possessing extraordinary power.

Then Arceus created Dialga and Palkia to govern time and space.

And to balance the instability that came with existence itself, the deity of antimatter—Giratina—appeared.

One unfamiliar concept after another unfolded through the video.

By the time Giratina appeared, Cynthia was already so shaken she could barely breathe.

At that point, she didn't even care whether "Shui Ye" was making it all up.

She was completely immersed in the sweeping, epic weight of this creation myth.

Then Dialga and Palkia—the twin dragon gods—clashed.

The overflowing energy from their battle gave rise to Heatran.

The violent Giratina began to rebel.

Arceus descended the Spear Pillar to quell the war.

The Age of Creation, shaped by the birth and interactions of powerful Legendary Pokémon, slipped into an Age of Chaos.

And the story only grew more riveting.

But just as Cynthia leaned forward, expecting the next, even more explosive development—

the video cut off.

Abruptly.

Instead, it jumped straight into the final ad segment.

"Recently, I caught a new Pokémon and equipped it with Devon Corporation's newly developed seventh-generation Hoenn Luxury Ball. So what do I do with the old Poké Ball? I listed it on the Magikarp Platform—and who'd have thought a normal Poké Ball could still sell for over a hundred! Magikarp Platform has professionals who come to your door with Psychic-type Pokémon to collect items. Buying and selling secondhand Pokémon gear? Magikarp Platform is the way to go!"

Cynthia: "…"

Shui Ye—could you be any more shameless?!

At least tell us what happened to the time and space gods before ending it!

For the first time in her life, Cynthia felt the urge to have Garchomp fire off a couple of Draco Meteors at the person on the other end of the internet cable.

"Still not sleeping, little Cynthia?"

A familiar, elderly voice suddenly spoke from behind her.

Cynthia jumped, then turned around, half complaining and half acting spoiled.

"Grandma… you came in without knocking again?"

There was only one person who could walk up behind Cynthia without being stopped by her many Champion-level Pokémon.

The current director of the Celestic Historical Research Institute—

Cynthia's grandmother—

and the mentor who had guided her onto the path of mythology research:

Professor Carolina.

This woman, cold in temperament yet uniquely gentle with her granddaughter, feigned a scolding tone.

"I knocked for three whole minutes. You just didn't hear me. Don't believe me? Ask Glaceon."

Glaceon, who had entered along with Carolina, nodded coolly—showing no bias toward its Trainer.

"Even on vacation, you shouldn't stay up this late."

Carolina set down the milk in her hand and teased, "What, are Sinnoh Champion duties piling up so much you can't finish them even at night?"

Cynthia shook her head, then eagerly handed her phone to the old lady like she was recommending treasure.

"No, Grandma. Look at this."

Carolina, her eyesight not what it used to be, squinted at the subtitles and read aloud:

"Genesis of Arceus… interesting."

Cynthia's eyes lit up. "You've heard of this hypothesis before?"

Carolina was the absolute authority on Sinnoh history—one could say no one understood Sinnoh myths better than her.

But she didn't answer directly.

Instead, she watched the video.

And Cynthia, who was about to replay it anyway, sat with her.

Another half hour passed.

When they finally came back to themselves, grandmother and granddaughter looked at each other in silence.

After a long moment, Carolina spoke.

"A very interesting video. A hypothesis with real imagination."

Cynthia's heart jolted.

For her grandmother—who rarely offered praise so readily—this was already an exceptionally high evaluation.

She asked, "Do you think it could be historical truth?"

Carolina shook her head. "The logic is internally consistent, but I can't make a judgment."

Even the Flying Spaghetti Monster can be internally consistent—does that make it true?

Academic hypotheses, which are proposed first and verified later, don't become established casually—

let alone rigorous historical theories.

She paused, thinking, then said slowly, "That said, I also can't deny it outright. Some parts reminded me of a story my grandmother used to tell me when I was a child."

Cynthia asked curiously, "What story?"

Carolina murmured, "To call the past and present together is 'yu'; to call the four directions above and below is 'zhou'…"

Then she shook her head helplessly. "I'm old. I don't remember the rest. I only recall it was a story about a rift in time and space… and Arceus. My grandmother said her great-grandmother read it as a child in the Canalave Library."

Cynthia nodded slowly, thoughtful.

Her grandmother's grandmother's great-grandmother…

That was two hundred years ago, wasn't it?

No wonder it was so hard for such a story to survive.

But Canalave Library…

Cynthia's gaze sharpened slightly as she considered it.

Her vacation still had a month left.

Maybe it was time to find something to do.
