Chapter 23 - Calling the Parents

Hearing all those whispered comments, Bruce's normally fair, delicate face turned bright red—whether from anger or embarrassment, it was hard to tell.

He lowered his head and quickly left the area.

Although the incident itself seemed to be over, some students still went to inform a teacher.

However, Lyra wasn't afraid at all of the teachers finding out. After all, she wasn't the one at fault. Even though she had her Pichu discharge electricity, it was only meant to scare him—it hadn't actually struck him.

At that moment, Lyra complained to Nori beside her:

"I really don't know what's wrong with Bruce's brain. Just because he likes me, does that mean I have to agree?"

Nori smiled at her friend's grumbling and said teasingly, "Lyra, honestly, Bruce isn't that bad. You really don't have any interest at all?"

Of course, she was just joking.

"Tch. This counts as 'not bad'?" Lyra snorted disdainfully. "He's not even one-tenth as good as my brother."

"Lyra, you can't compare every guy to Kael," Nori said helplessly.

At the same time, she secretly thought that her best friend had seen too many top-tier male idols—her standards had skyrocketed.

"Forget about that," Lyra said, changing the subject. "Nori, tomorrow's Saturday. How about we go to the training ground and hang out with my brother?"

She wanted Kael to give her Pichu some guidance in training.

"Sure! I've wanted to see a training ground for a long time," Nori nodded eagerly.

She'd always wanted to go, but since she wasn't a Trainer and didn't have a Pokémon, she'd never had the chance.

"Great, then we'll go together," Lyra said happily.

Just as the two were chatting, a boy came running over, panting heavily.

Lyra and Nori both looked puzzled.

"Jett, what's up?" Lyra asked.

The boy was their classmate, so they both knew him.

"Pant… pant…" Jett took a few deep breaths before saying, "Lyra, Professor Selwyn wants to see you."

"Me?" Lyra frowned in confusion. "Why would she want me?"

She couldn't recall doing anything wrong recently.

Then she suddenly thought of what had just happened.

"Is it about what happened earlier?"

Jett nodded. "Yeah. Professor Selwyn said you need to call your parents."

"Call my parents?!" Lyra exclaimed angrily. "Why? That wasn't even my fault!"

Her face was full of unwillingness.

In her view, she hadn't done anything wrong—so why should she be the one calling her family?

"Alright, Lyra, don't get upset yet," Nori said, trying to calm her down. "Professor Selwyn is still waiting. Go see what she says first."

"…Fine," Lyra said reluctantly, then turned and left.

More than ten minutes later, Lyra arrived at the teachers' office.

Bruce was already there, standing obediently in front of Professor Selwyn like a well-behaved student.

When Lyra saw him, she shot him a fierce glare before greeting politely:

"Professor Selwyn, you were looking for me?"

Although Lyra's academic成绩 were average, she had many talents and had won numerous awards in various competitions. Her homeroom teacher, Professor Selwyn, often praised and protected her.

Being told to "call parents" was a first for Lyra.

"Lyra," Professor Selwyn said sternly, "don't you know how dangerous it is to use a Pokémon against a person?"

Lyra was about to explain, but before she could speak, Bruce rushed to speak first:

"Professor Selwyn, this isn't Lyra's fault—it's all because of me!"

From his tone, it was almost as if he were saying 'Punish me instead!'

Lyra rolled her eyes. Truly—ugly people caused the most trouble.

Professor Selwyn also looked speechless. Was he openly trying to start puppy love right in front of her?

"Bruce, be quiet!" she snapped. "I haven't even dealt with you yet. Don't you know the school strictly forbids early dating? Let me tell you—if there's a next time, it won't just be calling parents."

Scolded like this, Bruce immediately fell silent, fear written all over his face.

Professor Selwyn then turned to Lyra.

"Lyra, I tried calling your parents, but both their phones are busy. Do you have another guardian's number?"

She had already tried contacting Lyra's parents, but neither call went through.

Lyra's eyes flashed with a sly light.

"Yes, Professor Selwyn. I have an elder who definitely has time to come. His number is 1*********."

After dialing the last digit, Professor Selwyn called the number right in front of Lyra.

"Beep… beep…"

The call connected quickly, and a magnetic male voice came through.

"Hello? Who is this?"

At the same time, the phone transmitted sounds of violent explosions and sharp screeches in the background.

Professor Selwyn was stunned.

Was this person fighting a war somewhere? It certainly sounded like a battlefield.

She glanced at Lyra suspiciously.

"Hello?" The voice on the phone sounded slightly impatient now. "Who is this? If there's nothing important, I'm hanging up."

Professor Selwyn quickly said, "Ah, hello. I'm Lyra's homeroom teacher. Lyra made a mistake at school, and I hope you can come to the school."

For a split second, the phone went eerily silent.

Then, a calm voice replied, "Understood. I'll be there right away."

The call ended.

Professor Selwyn blinked, then looked at Lyra.

"That was… which elder of yours?"

"Teacher, you'll know when he arrives," Lyra said seriously, though she was laughing inside. "He's absolutely a legitimate elder of mine."
