Amara's POV :
I spent the rest of Monday watching David.
He didn't look up from his computer for the next hour but his shoulders were tight and he kept shifting in his chair. His hand went to his phone three times before he finally grabbed it and walked outside.
Through the window I watched him pace on the sidewalk with the phone pressed to his ear. His free hand kept running through his hair and pulling at it. When someone on the other end said something his whole body went stiff.
He came back inside five minutes later. His face had gone pale and there was sweat at his hairline even though it was cold out.
He sat down at his desk and stared at his screen. His fingers hovered over the keyboard but he didn't type anything.
At four thirty he shoved his laptop in his bag and left without saying goodbye to anyone.
I watched him walk past the windows and disappear down the street.
Something had him rattled bad enough to steal from my desk and now bad enough to run.
