In a luxurious apartment, a lady is seen tossing on a bed with her brows furrowed seemingly experiencing a lot of pain. Suddenly, she jerks awake panting harshly.
Mei Ling looks around her environment with caution which was immediately replaced with shock. This was her room before the apocalypse. How could that be possible, she clearly remembered freezing to death two years into the apocalypse.
Unable to help it, she pinched herself hardly and painful sensation helped her snap out of the trance. Could it be?
She has been reborn?
At the thought of that, she felt her heart beating fast out of excitement. She quickly stood up from the bed and made her way to the mirror by the closet. A young face clear of the weathered hardship she had endured stared back at her, disbelief painting her expression.
She slowly touched her face. No scars or wrinkles. Her hands were as beautiful as a baby and her health fit too. She came out and looked at her phone, the date showed clearly, 30th February 4062. With trembling hands, she dropped it and opened her curtains. The warm rays of sunlight that streamed into the room convinced her she wasn't dreaming.
Looking at the bustling city which hasn't been deserted yet, she could no longer control her emotions and burst into tears. The sound of her crying resonated in the room as she poured out her grievance, pain and fear during those suffering. After crying for a long time she stood up and walked to the kitchen.
After she felt better, she started looking for what to eat. She felt terribly hungry. She opened the cupboard and took out two pack of instant noodles and ate. Still not feeling satisfied, she took her phone and ordered braised pork rice. While waiting for the order to arrive, she absent mindedly stroke her jade pendant while pondering on the coming disasters.
She remembered clearly that it started with the change in climate. Then the rain that flooded everything for almost year. The insect attack caused by mutated animals which destroyed everything was the second disaster. It was at that time that human nature surfaced. Robbery, murder and all kind of heinous crimes was seen. People did everything to eat even going cannibalistic.
Remembering all the hardship she went through to survive but still died she sighed.
"At least I'm back. This time, I'm going to live well"
She got a book and started writing out supplies she was going to need. First was food. At the first wave of the apocalypse began, she nearly starved to death solely surviving on nothing but snacks till rescue team found her and took them to the a base. Just as she finished outlining the important thing, her doorbell rang. The delivery has arrived.
She walked to door and opened it. Signed and took her food into her room. Smelling the aroma, her stomach growled loudly. She went to the kitchen to get a plate. In her haste, she cut her hand on the knife that was placed in the plate rack. She couldn't help but sigh at her eagerness. Taking the plate, she stepped back at the living room to get a first aid kit to treat the minor wound. Her hand shot to her neck again to clutch her jade pendant as a habit.
As the blood touched the pendant, it absorbed it and turned a deep red hue. Not noticing anything amiss, she took out the first aid kit and wanted to disinfect the wound. To her shock, the would was gone like it was never there. Such phenomenon left the reborn Mei Ling dumbfounded. She was sure she wasn't hallucinating, so what just happened.
