Chapter 131 - The Case of Vario’s Missing Soup

It started as a quiet moment. Too quiet.

Vario stood behind the counter, staring at the shelf where his soup should have been. He blinked once. Then again. He leaned closer, squinting like the soup might suddenly reappear out of guilt.

"…No," he said softly. "No, no, no."

Nyx looked up from restocking chips. "What?"

"My soup," Vario whispered, horror creeping into his voice. "It's gone."

Bella paused mid-step. "Which soup."

Vario turned slowly, eyes wide. "My soup. The one I saved. The one I labeled. The one I was emotionally invested in."

Nyx froze. "You labeled it?"

"Yes," Vario snapped. "In permanent marker. It said: 'Vario's. Do Not Touch.'"

Bella crossed her arms. "Then someone touched it."

The realization hit him like a curse.

Vario slammed his hands on the counter. "WHO TOOK MY SOUP."

The store fell silent.

Garruk peeked out from the back aisle. "Is this… another Oni thing?"

"This is worse," Vario said. "This is betrayal."

Seraphine floated closer, sensing distress. "Was the soup important to you?"

Vario nodded. "It was mushroom. With extra bits."

Nyx started checking the trash. "No container here."

Bella scanned the store like a crime scene. "No spills. No evidence. Whoever did this knew what they were doing."

Vario's knees buckled. "It was supposed to be my break soup."

The door chimed.

Everyone turned.

Yoni the Oni stood there again, casually munching on Piatos.

Vario pointed at her immediately. "DID YOU TAKE MY SOUP."

Yoni blinked. "No. I only buy chips."

She tilted her head. "But if you left soup unattended… that's dangerous."

Nyx gasped. "She's right."

Bella sighed. "Focus."

They searched everywhere. Freezer. Back room. Trash bins. Even the emergency noodle stash. Nothing.

Then Garruk coughed.

"…I may have seen Mario go into the secret room earlier."

Silence.

Vario's eye twitched.

They marched to the hidden storage door and opened it.

Inside, Mario sat on a crate, holding an empty soup container and a spoon.

"…It was good," he said weakly.

Vario collapsed to his knees.

"My soup," he whispered. "Gone. Reduced to memory."

Bella dragged Mario out by the collar. "You owe him another soup. Two soups."

Nyx patted Vario's shoulder. "We'll get you a replacement."

Vario stared at the ceiling. "It won't be the same."

Seraphine placed a comforting hand over his heart. "Grief is natural."

Vario sniffed. "I just wanted lunch."

And so, after Oni sieges, Karens, curses, and chaos, the store faced its greatest tragedy yet.

The disappearance of Vario's soup.
