Chapter 14 - Chapter 14: Nyx’s Day Off

The convenience store was… quieter than usual. The shelves were straight, the soda towers mostly intact, and the lingering chaos of last night seemed—almost—contained. Almost.

Nyx stretched, yawning dramatically as she flopped onto the counter. "Ahhh… finally. A day off."

Bella, folding her arms, raised an eyebrow. "A day off? You work here, Nyx, barely controlling yourself most of the time, and you want a day off?"

Nyx grinned, tossing a Pokémon card into the air and catching it with flair. "Exactly! I've been working hard, supervising imaginary Stand battles, and cataloging rare items. I deserve this!"

The Demon King, holding a Blue Bull and still slightly jittery, snorted. "Hard work? You mean chaos."

Nyx ignored him, twirling in the empty aisle. "Shh! This is my day. No rules. No cleaning. No worrying about drunk heroes or irritated generals!"

Feria floated by, clipboard in hand, scanning the aisles. "Nyx, remember: inventory checks are mandatory. You will not slack off."

Nyx pouted. "No! Today I live for myself!"

Bella rolled her eyes. "You do realize chaos tends to find you, right?"

Nyx laughed. "Then I shall embrace it! Watch and learn, Bella. Today, I explore the human world."

With that, she darted toward the front door, leaving a trail of Pokémon cards behind her. The streets were alive with lights, smells, and people—all prime targets for exploration. Nyx stopped at the corner and took a deep breath, looking at a street vendor selling hot dogs. "Yes! This is freedom! This… this is life!"

She bought a hot dog, examined it like a treasure, and took a bite with dramatic flair. "Humans… you have strange delights."

Later, she discovered a nearby arcade. Her eyes sparkled as she swiped a few coins into the machines. Lights flashed, sounds blared, and she laughed hysterically as her favorite rhythm game started. "Yes! THIS is how a day off should feel!"

Meanwhile, Bella sighed back at the store, checking that the shelves were still in one piece. "Someone has to keep this place from burning down while Nyx does… whatever she does out there."

The Demon King, perched on a stool with another Blue Bull, muttered, "Humans call it a day off… but I suspect chaos follows her everywhere."

By evening, Nyx returned, exhausted but exhilarated, arms full of arcade tickets, candy, and tiny prizes. "You have no idea what I've experienced!" she declared. "I've eaten hot dogs, won plushies, and… maybe discovered the secret of the gacha universe!"

Feria, clipboard still in hand, raised an eyebrow. "And the store?"

Nyx waved a hand. "Barely survived without me. Probably a little cleaner… but mostly still chaotic."

Bella shook her head. "You're impossible."

Nyx grinned, tossing a plushie at the Demon King. "Exactly. And that's why I need my day off. Until tomorrow, retail world… I'm free!"

The store settled back into its normal rhythm, a little quieter, a little cleaner, and yet still teetering on the edge of chaos—just waiting for Nyx's next shift.
