The first thing I noticed was the darkness. Not the peaceful kind of darkness from a room with the curtains drawn. This darkness felt heavy. I opened my eyes, but nothing changed.
For a few seconds, I couldn't remember where I was. Then pain exploded through the back of my head. I sucked in a breath. I remembered the library, the servant. Hades. Then the blow.
My heart began racing. I tried to move but hands wouldn't separate. Something rough was wrapped tightly around my wrists, binding them behind my back.
Panic surged through me. I pulled against the restraints. My legs were bound too and then I realized something even worse. Something covered my eyes. It was a blindfold.
"No." The word came out as a whisper.
I twisted my wrists again. The rope dug into my skin.
I was trapped. Someone had kidnapped me. The realization hit so suddenly that I almost couldn't breathe.
