I sat on the bench in the training hall when Kael handed me a bottle of water.
"Thank you," I said as I opened it and drank. Today had been the most stressful day. The instructor had pushed my dragon to the edge.
I stared at the soot stained wall, covered in black marks from my fire. Controlling my dragon had always been hard. For years, I had tried to tame it, hoping it would get better. It never did.
My instructor feared it would harm my people instead of protecting them. But today, something strange happened, and I could not stop thinking about it.
My dragon calmed down when Rox came into sight. It even told me to be calm. It had never listened to me or anyone else before, but it listened to him in just a few seconds.
Or was it because he was my mate?
I felt like throwing the bottle at the wall. Anger rushed through me when I remembered that my mate was a boy, not a girl. How did the gods expect me to deal with this?
