Chapter 1 - chapter :1

Chapter 1: The Soul of a PredatorThe rain in the Azure Empire did not wash away the scent of blood; it only made it heavier.

Lonas, a young man whose life had been defined by mediocrity and kindness, was currently gasping for air. His lungs burned like hot coals, and his vision was swimming in a haze of red. Behind him, the rhythmic splashing of boots on mud told him that the hounds were still closing in.

Lonas was only at Level 2. In a world where power was everything, he was a leaf in a hurricane. But it wasn't just any enemy chasing him. These were professional killers—assassins sent by the very people he shared his bread with. His own family. His own fiancée, the woman he had promised to protect with his life.

"Why..." he wheezed, his legs trembling. "Why did they do it?"

The answer didn't matter. He had reached the end of the line. Before him stood the Devil's Maw, a sheer cliff dropping into a misty abyss. A dead end.

The Last Stand of a FailureFive figures emerged from the gloom, their obsidian armor shimmering under the moonlight. These were the elite cleaners of the House of Thorne, sent by his fiancée to ensure Lonas never saw another sunrise.

"There's nowhere left to run, Young Master," the lead assassin mocked, drawing a serrated shortsword. "Your lady sends her regards. She said your heart was always too soft. She prefers a man with... harder ambitions."

Lonas didn't scream. Something inside him broke. If he was going to die, he wouldn't die kneeling.

The fight was a blur of desperation. Lonas fought like a cornered animal. Though he was only Level 2, the adrenaline of betrayal pushed him past his limits. He took a blade to the shoulder to drive his own dagger into an assassin's throat. He took a kick to the ribs to gouge out another's eyes.

The battle lasted for an eternity. One by one, the assassins fell, surprised by the sudden ferocity of the boy they thought was a coward. But the cost was absolute. By the time the final killer lay dead at his feet, Lonas's body was a map of lethal wounds. His intestines were slick with blood, and his heart was slowing.

Lonas slumped against a jagged rock, staring at the grey sky. His eyes grew cold. His pulse stopped. Lonas was dead.

The King of Killers AwakensDeep within the void between worlds, a different soul was drifting. On Earth, he had no name—only a title: The Ghost of Cain. He was the world's most wanted contract killer, a man who had toppled governments and vanished from locked rooms. He had died not by betrayal, but by a bored choice to end his own story.

Suddenly, a vacuum of spiritual energy pulled him downward.

Gasp.

The body of Lonas jerked. The eyes snapped open, but the warmth and innocence that once resided in them were gone. Replacing them was a terrifying, predatory stillness.

The MC sat up slowly. The pain was excruciating—shattered ribs, punctured lungs, and deep lacerations—but he didn't scream. On Earth, he had undergone surgery without anesthesia to remain alert. This pain was an old friend.

"A new world?" he whispered, his voice rasping. He looked at his hands—thin, weak, and blood-stained.

Suddenly, a flood of memories surged through his mind. He saw Lonas's life: the fake smiles of his fiancée, the cold glares of his father, the plot to kill him so they could seize his small inheritance and marry the girl off to a higher-ranking noble.

The Ghost of Cain let out a dry, haunting chuckle. "Betrayed by family and a lover? Hmph. Some things are the same in every universe."

He didn't feel shock or grief. To him, humans were inherently treacherous. He felt only a cold sense of familiarity.

The Long Walk HomeHe tried to stand, but his legs gave way. This body was at the brink of total collapse.

"Weak," he spat, forcing himself up again. He used a discarded sword as a crutch, leaning his weight into the steel. He couldn't stay here. The scent of blood would bring scavengers.

He looked toward the dark treeline. According to Lonas's memories, this was the Silver-Leaf Forest, a place infested with low-level mana beasts. There was a shortcut through the dense brush—a narrow, forgotten hunter's path that led back toward the city outskirts.

The trek was a nightmare. Every step sent a jolt of agony through his spine. In the shadows of the trees, he heard the low growls of beasts—eyes glowing yellow in the dark. A normal Level 2 would have panicked, but the MC simply lowered his center of gravity, masking his killing intent and blending into the shadows. He was a master of stealth; even in a broken body, he moved like a phantom.

Night fell completely, the forest turning into a labyrinth of silver moonlight and pitch-black shadows.

Finally, as the first light of dawn began to grey the horizon, the trees thinned. Ahead stood a dilapidated estate on the edge of the city—the house of the "disgraced" Lonas.

He reached the heavy wooden door, his breath coming in ragged gasps. He was covered in dried gore and mud, looking more like a vengeful spirit than a nobleman. He pushed the door open, the hinges groaning in the silence of the early morning.

He was home. But the boy who lived here was gone. In his place stood a man who had mastered the art of death on a world of billions.

The Ghost of Cain looked at his reflection in a cracked mirror in the hallway. He touched the bruised face of Lonas.

"Don't worry, kid," he whispered to the ghost of the previous owner. "I'll make sure they scream louder than you did."

Power Leveling Update:The MC's soul is vast, but the body is currently Level 2 (Low Stage - Ground Level). To reach the heights of the Evil Root or the Level 7 Moon Level, he must first heal and begin his new cultivation path.
