However, his solo run didn't last long. When he stopped by Jorrvaskr, Kodlak Whitemane sat him down. The old Harbinger's voice was firm. "It's not safe to take on these contracts alone, whelp. Not yet."

He gestured to the large, metal-clad Nord standing nearby. "Farkas will watch your back."

Farkas didn't seem to mind the babysitting duty. In fact, he was probably the only one in the Circle who didn't look at Shiro with suspicion.

They cleared the mine together, Shiro moving fast and Farkas hitting hard.

After they turned in the job and Shiro handed Farkas his cut of the coin, the Nord offered something better than gold: training.

"You're strong," Farkas said, thumping a fist against his chest plate. "But you don't know how to wear the steel. Let me show you."

That training session unlocked a memory from Shiro's past life. Heavy Armor. If he recalled the game mechanics correctly, there was a specific perk deep in that skill tree.

[Perk: Fists of Steel]

Description: Unarmed attacks with Heavy Armor gauntlets deal their base armor rating as extra damage.

Shiro ran the numbers in his head. If he had gauntlets with a defense of 12, and his base punch was 12, this perk would stack them. That was 24 damage per hit. With the speed of unarmed combat, that was a dangerous combo if he used it right.

For the rest of the day and well into the next, Shiro trained. Farkas drilled him on how to move in plate without falling over, while another Companion took him into the yard to refine his blade work.

[Skill Level Up]

[Heavy Armor] Lv 20

Description: Teaches user how to use heavy armor to your advantage in combat. You're slower, but that doesn't mean you can't be smarter.

[Skill Level Up]

[One-Handed Combat] Lv 15

Description: The basics of wielding a sword. There is no true fighting style, only the will to fight.

The grind paid off in more ways than one. Looting the bodies during their missions had yielded two new spell books, rare finds for a bandit cave.

[Spell Tome: Ice Spike (Destruction - Apprentice)]

Cost: 48 Mana

Description: A huge spike of ice that impales the target, slowing them down and draining Stamina.

[Spell Tome: Lightning Bolt (Destruction - Apprentice)]

Cost: 51 Mana

Description: A bolt of electricity that deals 25 damage and burns half that amount in Magicka.

Back in the present, Shiro leaned back in his chair at the Bannered Mare. The trials of the last three days were hectic, but he was reaping the rewards. He quietly activated his skill.

[Observe]

[Dungeon: Skyrim World Lv 2]

[Time Left: 4 Hours and 5 Minutes]

He grinned, a mix of excitement and pure exhaustion washing over him. If someone had told him he would become this strong in such a short amount of time, he would have called them crazy. But here he was, tired, hungry, sweaty, and powerful.

He checked his status: Level 21.

"Just a little more," he whispered to himself. All he needed was to improve his skills a fraction more, and he could take on Kalawarner.

He raised his hand to signal Saadia. "Another mead, plea…"

His voice was cut off by screams erupting from the street.

The sound of boots stomping on stone and guards shouting orders shattered the peace of the inn.

Shiro rushed to the door, bursting outside just in time to see a massive shadow sweep over the rooftops of Whiterun.

A villager pointed a trembling finger at the sky.

"A Dragon!!!"

Shiro knew the script. In the game, the dragon waited. You could spend months picking flowers or building houses, and Mirmulnir would just circle the watchtower politely until you decided to show up.

But here? Time was a river, not a mechanic. The realization hit him cold, if he didn't move, people would die, and he might miss his chance at the soul.

Ten guards burst through the main gates of Whiterun, their armor clanking in a chaotic rhythm. They were fully kitted, bows, steel swords, rimmed shields, but against a dragon, they looked painfully small.

"If I'm truly Dragonborn," Shiro muttered, adjusting the straps of his armor, "then that soul belongs to me."

He didn't wait for an invitation. He bolted after the formation, equipping his gear as he ran.

The run to the Western Watchtower was a blur of adrenaline. By the time he arrived, the smell of ozone and sulfur was already thick in the air.

The tower was a ruin, smoke pouring from the shattered stone. The guards were scattering, looking for survivors among the debris.

"Civilian! Turn back!"

Shiro ignored the shout, stepping over a piece of burning timber.

Irileth, the Jarl's housecarl, stepped into his path. Her dark elven eyes narrowed as she recognized him. "You... I saw you in the market. You know healing magic, don't you? We have wounded…"

ROAAAAR!

The sound tore through the air, vibrating in Shiro's chest. He looked up. The dragon wasn't waiting. It banked sharply, diving toward their position.

"Incoming!" Shiro yelled.

The battle started instantly and brutally. A stream of fire bathed the courtyard. Three guards were incinerated before they could even draw their weapons, their screams cut short by the roar of the flames.

Shiro reacted on instinct. He raised his hands, channeling mana.

[Ice Spike]

Two jagged shards of ice materialized and rocketed forward. They slammed into the dragon's right wing, shattering on impact. It wasn't enough to ground the beast, but it pissed it off. The dragon veered away, circling back into the cloud cover.

"To the tower!" Irileth screamed, waving her sword. "Get inside, now!"

Shiro scrambled up the spiral staircase with the remaining guards, bursting onto the roof. The archers immediately nocked their arrows, scanning the sky.

It was dead silent. The clouds were thick, grey, and suffocating. The dragon had vanished.

"Where is it?" a guard whispered, his hand shaking.

Shiro narrowed his eyes. He triggered the skill he'd picked up along with the claw technique.

[Skill: Night Vision (Active)]
