Sally's tone stayed even. "You don't have to be cruel about it. You and your mother both hold shares in White Corporation. I have no intention of taking what belongs to you."
"Take everything," Marcus said flatly. "The shares mean nothing to me. You can have them. You've spent enough years scheming and working for it."
"No." Sally's heels clicked against the floor as she straightened, her posture carrying the particular composure of someone who has decided not to be moved. "I only want what is mine. And please tell your mother to stop coming after me. That situation had nothing to do with me. She needs to let it go."
"Nothing to do with you?" a voice shrieked from the doorway.
Sharon stood there, eyes swollen and red, staring at Sally with a hatred so concentrated it seemed to fill the room. She looked like she had been holding herself upright through sheer force of fury, and now that she had somewhere to direct it, the last of her restraint dissolved.
