Chapter 8 - ➫ 8

Ping!

< I tried to tell you but you wouldn't listen >

Ben pushed himself up from the dirt, wincing as pain shot through his ribs and spine. He glared at the translucent screen floating in front of him.

"What do you mean you tried to tell me?" he hissed. "You've been calling my name like multiple times now." he eyed the screen. "What happened to just telling me straight up 'Ben, your ability doesn't work on them,' huh?!"

The five Ash Reavers loomed over him, grinning. One of them cracked its knuckles. Another twirled a blade lazily. They were going to pull their five-on-one strategy on him and he could bet that they no escaping from this one. He wouldn't survive.

Ping!

< Ben >

< I have a plan >

Ben's eyes narrowed. "A plan? Oh, fantastic." He whispered sarcastically. "Because your last plan went so well that,"

< Do you want to die? >

"...Of course not." This mysterious system was super annoying but at least it was the only thing keeping him alive so better to be on good terms with it. He still wondered where to came from right now he had to survive, he'd deal with it later.

Ping!

< Listen very carefully >

Ben swallowed. His heart was pounding. The Reavers were circling him now, like predators around a wounded prey.

< Do you remember the woman you saved earlier? >

Ben blinked. "Uh... yeah. Why? What about her?" He was getting up slowly and calculatedly. His intention was to run just incase the system's plans failed and he'd have to improvise.

< She has the Telekinesis ability >

< And she owes you for saving her life >

Ben's mouth fell open. "Wait? How do you know? And what do you want me to do, use her? How the hell am I supposed to do that, she's probably halfway across the arena by now."

< She's twenty feet to your left >

< Behind the rubble >

< And she's watching you >

Ben risked a glance. There, barely visible behind a crumbled stone pillar was the woman. She had dark, curling horns and frightened eyes. She was wounded but she was staring directly at him.

Thankfully, their eyes met. Ben took a deep breath and mouthed, 'Help!'.

She hesitated for a bit.

< Tell her to throw you >

"What!"

< Trust me >

Ben didn't have time to argue. One of the Reavers lunged. "Throw me!" Ben screamed at the woman. "Now!"

For a split second, nothing happened. Then suddenly, Ben felt his entire body lifted off the ground with full forc just as one of the Reaver's blade sliced through empty air where he'd just been standing. It grunted in frustration.

Ben's stomach tightened as he was yanked sideways through the air, spinning wildly.

"Ahhhhh!" He screamed.

< She's throwing you at the Reaver with the tape >

< When you get close, grab it and hold on >

"W-wait! Hold on to whaaaaaaat!" He screamed again as he felt himself being pulled down to the direction of the Reavers. He slammed into one of them at full speed. The impact knocked the air out of him, but he didn't let go.

His hands scrambled across the creature's armor. His fingers searching desperately untill he found the tape. Ben ripped it free from the Reaver's belt and clung to the creature's back like a spider, wrapping his arms around its neck.

The Reaver roared and thrashed, trying to throw him off but failed. He kept trying and wiggling it's butt as hard as it could. Ben almost fell off. "What do I do?" He screamed.

< Now tell her to pull you up >

"Up?"

< Just do it >

"Pull me up!" Ben screamed. The woman raised her hand and Ben was yanked into the air, with great force, while the Reaver still attached to him.

The other four Reavers stared up in confusion as their brother was lifted twenty feet off the ground, flailing and snarling.

< Now drop him >

Ben's eyes went wide. "Drop? Wait, drop him or drop me?"

< Quickly. Him >

"Drop Him!" Ben shouted. Her telekinetic force released. She slammed the Reaver downwards with great force far away from where his brothers stood. It hit the ground, falling head first, directly onto a big rock

One that fell along with a weapon from the sky earlier. Its body twitched once, then went still. It was dead.

Ben held a breath, dangling in the invisible grip of the woman's power. The crowd went insane. There were cheers and screaming. The witch seemed to be enjoying it. Her face lit up with delight.

Ben looked down at the remaining four Reavers. They were staring up at him, still unaware that their brother had died from the fall. There were mouthing threats and pointing weapons at him.

He grinned and held up the Thornbind Tape.

"Thanks for this, suckers." he called down.

They snarled. He nodded to the woman and slowly and calmly, she lowered him to the ground, far away from the Reavers.

Ben landed on his feet. "Oh my god, I survived!" He kept chanting as he tried to catch his breath.

He had just survived a deadly encounter once again. It was now time to face the real enemy; the Werewolf.
