"It's the human, isn't it?" A voice was muffled as rough hands carried Ben out of the arena heading towards a chariot.
"You're right." Another responded. The king wants to see him immediately. There say in the palace that there's a great risk if he wins the contest. And the king says that must never happen."
Their rough hands held Ben up and threw him into the back of a chariot. They were guards from the king's palace.
"Why, though?" another asked, peaking from the front of the chariot.
The guard motioned for them to come closer as if scared of anyone else to hear. They acted immediately and came closer to him.
"Why did the king summon the human suddenly? It's strange." One asked, whispering.
The one who beckoned on then to come closer to him began. "Rumors say there's a prophecy."
The other two guards gasped loudly. "A prophecy?"
"Shhh!" He yelled with a voice as low as a whisper, looking around for any eavesdroppers. "Yes." He finally said.
There was a pause.
"What does it say?" One of the guards asked.
The first voice dropped lower. "It says that when the 'Bloodless One' claims the throne, the Veil will shatter."
Silence.
"The Veil?" They gasped loudly, again.
He smacked their heads. "Shhh! Stop shouting!"
They apologized and leaned in. "What's the veil all about?" They whispered.
"It's believed to be the barrier between the three realms. Ours, that of the new gods and one that keeps the Old gods locked away. They say if it falls, then the Seven Realms of Eryndor will burn and the Old gods will return."
The other two guards were baffled.
"And... the human? What does he have to do with it?"
"They say….he might be the Bloodless one."
"But that's impossible. It's the first time we're seeing him around here. It's too coincidental."
"I know right? But who knows if he's been hiding in the shadows waiting for the perfect time to strike."
There was a long pause as the men all stared at Ben who was laying unconscious at the back of the chariot.
"Then how? I thought the New gods would protect us?"
"They will." He responded firmly. "They have protected us for this long, nothing would change suddenly. And, like I said, it's just a rumor in the palace. But I fear the king might be baffled about it whether it's true or not." The guard finally said.
"So what do we do with him?"
"We take him to the king."
"And then?"
He smacked their heads again. "How I'm I supposed to know that, wasn't it the king who gave the orders. Let's get on with it. Go! Go! Go!"
He barked at them and soon the started the chariots, heading for the kingdom.
