Snow.

Ainz often associated it with a single thing.

Bad weather.

The constant smog in the city was already an annoyance to deal with, but with snow, not only did he have to watch his step to not fall, but he also had to deal with his gas mask to not freeze.

The only good thing he associated snow with was how it allowed him to hide his mother's carcass when he left with the other. It procured him some peace of mind at this time…or maybe he was simply already starting to lose by then.

'…ah, of course I think about her now…' Ainz massaged his brow as his eye opened into a dark room, his room.

Contrary to the warmth he was used to receiving each morning, he now only felt cold. Despite his blanket being made with some magical thread that could even keep warm an ice giant, despite his body being completely immune to the pitiful concept of temperature, he still felt cold.

Freezing even.

He was so used to waking up surrounded by his lover that the morning when he woke up alone was the most uncomfortable he ever felt.

He wasn't alone because his lover suddenly had a change of heart or anything like that. Yesterday was simply the festivity of Christmas Eve, and as it was back in his own world, everyone was overworked.

He too had been busy, he had to attend a lot of ceremonies to please his citizen, while his subordinate had their own function to fulfill.

Of course, some try to ditch their responsibility to be with them, but they were simply stopped by another one of his lovers.

But it also meant he was alone…and he hated to be alone, especially on this day.

But Ainz didn't wallow in his own misery much longer and eventually stood up from his bed and walked toward his wardrobe, where one of his maids waited for him.

The maid immediately bowed toward him as he approached her, before raising back with a smile plastered on her face. "Merry Christmas lord Ainz! I hope you will enjoy this day of festivity! It was made especially to celebrate you after all!"

Ainz merely nodded at her greeting before placing himself in front of the mirror as he awaited her to dress him. "I'm glad to see that you're doing well on this morning Foth."

Ainz raised her arm to make it easier for his maid to switch him clothes, but as he waited, he realized that Foth wasn't even touching him yet.

Usually, any of them would already have finished undressing him by the moment he raised his arm while making small talk. They took more time dressing him back, even more than when he was a skeleton, but he simply guessed that it was because they still weren't used to his new proportions.

Yet one of the many maids who loved this moment wasn't even brushing toward him. 

'Did I perhaps call her the wrong name? No…that is definitely Foth, useless they decided to play a prank on me and changed their hair in the middle of the night…But I doubt they would do anything like that.'

Ainz remembered quite well the face of each of his subordinates, so he was confident in not getting any of them wrong.

But just in case, he still looked toward Foth to see where the problem was, and just saw her looking back at him in a stunned expression.

"Foth? Is there a problem?"

His maid's eyes suddenly widened as she hurriedly reached for his current clothes and disrobed him with the speed he was used to. "No…no! Absolutely not, there's nothing wrong."

Ainz stayed silent as he gazed at her with suspicion, as she was already helping him with his new clothes for the day.

Sensing the skepticism resting on her shoulder, Foth knew that she couldn't allow herself to remain silent or she would displease her lord. "I was just…stunned to see you so happy."

Ainz was stupefied by her answer and instinctively reached for his lips to see if he was smiling without his knowledge.

"Your voice when you called me…it felt so…deep. I felt like you were profoundly happy to just see me, as I cleared...ah! No, I would never dare to be so presumptuous as to assume such a thing! Please forgive me!" Foth hastily closed up the knot of his robe and was just about to stand back before Ainz reached out to her himself.

"No…you may assume such a thing, I was indeed brewing into the darkness of my own making…but seeing you there, ready for me, did reassure me greatly…so thanks you Foth."

Despite receiving the greatest honour a maid like her could have possibly received, she only focused on one precise point. "Lord Ainz…what could have possibly affected you so much that you were depressed before seeing me?"

Ainz couldn't hear any of her earlier enthusiasm in her voice, only worry.

'Ah…I made her worried…how foolish of me.' Ainz shook his head before looking back at her with a tender face. "Just forget about it please. There's no worse use of your time than to worry about me."

"But I couldn't possibly…!" Foth closed her mouth herself before she could begin screaming, before bowing toward Ainz. "Very well…I shall not think about it again."

Ainz felt bad to have to order her something like that. He knew that they truly cared about him, so denying them the right to worry about him would probably be really bad, but what else could he possibly do?

It was his to live with, he didn't want to place this feeble burden on anyone else.

Ainz walked out of his wardrove with a heavier step, as he slowly left out of Foth's view, whose brow was still narrowed toward him.

'He says I should stop thinking about it…but he told me nothing about not talking about it.'

"I CALLED EVERYONE HERE FOR AN EMERGENCY MEETING OF THE HIGHEST LEVEL!" Albedo exclaimed as she slammed her fist on the table in front of her, while scrutinizing the other occupant to see if they were properly listening to her.

There were many more people than before, each of them was composed of the various lovers that Ainz acquired. All the girls who offered their devotion and heart to him.

Some were girls from the new worlds, some who she once considered undeserving of any kind of affection from Ainz. But as she spent more time scheming together, she really started to grow a liking toward them.

And even if she dared not accept them, she knew that they would still stay near Lord Ainz, as no amount of fear toward her could keep them away from Ainz. Anything less than that wouldn't have deserved a position in this table.

"Pff, I will give you an emergency, me not being able to have seen lord Ainz's magnificent body since yesterday! This is what everyone should be concerned about!" Shalltear said in annoyance as her finger tipped the table faster and faster.

"You can talk, at least you had the chance to have a date with lord Ainz, where you covered yourself in chocolate so he could lick each inch of your body! My date was simply preparing a trap to catch this bastard Santa Claus!" Aura complained back as she put her leg on the table.

"He helped me grow the Christmas tree…it was nice…" Mare added as he tightened his grip over his staff and drew it closer to his chest, with a dreamy expression on his face.

"You guys were able to go on a date?" Zesshi asked in confusion.

But before the girls, and Mare, could complain even more about being separated from Ainz, Albedo finally explained the reason for this meeting.

"The maid accompanying lord Ainz today reported something terrible…something that we should be ashamed of, but shame can wait for later! Right now we need to deal with the main problem!"

Ainz looked back at her with a mix of annoyance and worry, but their expression soon shifted to the next words Albedo dropped. "Lord Ainz…is currently depressed."

The silence was so loud that anyone would have been able to hear the sigh of relief of a fly dying in this room from escaping the murderous aura that spread throughout the whole room.

*SLAM*

The silence was interrupted by the sound of Shalltear smashing her fist against the table and raising furiously. "WHO DARED! WHO DARED PUT MY AINZ IN SUCH A MOOD!?!"

"I KNEW IT, I SHOULD HAVE TAKEN THE CAPTURE OF THIS SANTA CLAUS MORE SERIOUSLY! IT MUST BE BECAUSE OF HIM! HE GAVE ALL OF US NOTHING BUT CHARCOAL, EVEN TO LORD AINZ! HE DARED TO TREAT HIM LIKE A COMMON NAUGHTY CHILD!" Aura screamed to the top of her lungs as her grip on her chair made her seat tremble.

"No insults toward Ainz have any effect on him, he never considers the opinion of those lesser than him after all…so it can't be because of that." Neia responded with gritted teeth.

"…the only type of insult that could put lord Ainz in a state of anger is those directed at what he holds dear…" CZ added in a shaking voice that betrayed her fury.

"Indeed, my dearest would never bother to feel anything for something as unnoticeable as that…but then what could have possibly made him like that? I think we should first try to find that out, and if it's because of someone, then we just have to direct our anger toward him instead of wasting it on the air molecules." Renner said with a smile, but she kept her eyes closed as she knew that she wouldn't be able to hide from the others.

"What Renner said is right, we still have no information on what the cause of it is. But even beyond that, we cannot focus on punishing whatever made him act like this, but instead, push him away from his current mood." Albedo said to calm the atmosphere in the room.

She was just as livid as the other, but she had to keep the façade of calm toward them.

Her effort did help reduce the pressure in the air, but everyone still had a frown on their face.

"Then…what should we do? Lord Ainz always enjoys sharing our presence, so maybe an orgy with all of us could work." Yuri proposed, but she received firm shaking from the others.

"Sex is only a temporary way to deal with their grief, even if he does end up happier after, it will come back eventually. What we should do is to take him out on a date, he always feels much happier during it." Renner proposed instead.

But despite agreeing with the idea, they still felt uneasy. "But each time…it was lord Ainz who invited us on a date…and he usually played with our hobby…but we don't know what his interests are." Mare stammered.

Zesshi, who was pretty happy to just let the conversation flow on, widened her eyes as she looked at all of Ainz's lovers in shock. "…wait? None of you know what hobbies are?"

Their head all lowered as the elf just brought up their deepest shame, as despite Ainz knowing and interacting with them on all of their preference, they were still ignorant of lord Ainz's actual preference.

"…lord Ainz build a barrier around himself… he keeps a lot of things to himself." Albedo said with some sadness training her voice.

"…he said to me that he hated being vulnerable to others…so that must be why he doesn't share a lot about himself. " Renner also added with a self-deprecatory laugh as she started to realize how annoying her own quirk can be.

As Albedo surveyed the room once more, she realized that no one really had any idea what to do, and to her great shame, the same applied to her.

'Maybe we should do the orgy after all, we will just have to figure out what makes Lord Ainz sad later until one of us becomes someone he feels safe to be open about…'

Albedo's eyes flashed with inspiration as a brilliant idea crossed her mind. "But of course! I know what should be done!"

Her exclamation drew the attention of everyone in the room as they looked at her with hope.

"Even if lord Ainz still feels himself unable to open up to us, I know the only person who is able to do such a feat!"

"Who?" Keno asked as her crimson eye augmented its intensity on Albedo.

"Who else but his most precious creation and son, Pandora actor!"

"Ah! Lord Ainz! Would your newly godly taste bud desire to taste one of the strongest, most powerful, tastiest alcohol that the greatest estate of Nazarick have in its disposition! Words come to by that a single drop is able to make the most wise monk loose tongued enough to reveal their greatest sin!"

Pandora spun with a bottle in his hand, before pouring it into the wine cup in front of Ainz, not even bothering to stop, even when the drink spilled out of the glass. But even a single drop made Ainz wince at the smell; his son was definitely not lying with his expression. In fact, he was doubting that it was 100% alcohol that he just got.

Ainz looked as if he was currently covering his head in embarrassment. If he was able to feel flustered as an undead, now that he regained his emotions, the sight of his son only filled him with even more shame.

'Ah…at least he isn't speaking German anymore, but I really can't do anything about his theatral gesture…Still, I can't deny that it's my fault that he is like this. So I will just have to endure the shame.' Ainz thought as he watched Pandora gleefully pouring his drink.

"That's enough, Pandora. I'm not that wise to justify this much." Ainz raised his hand, prompting Pandora to finally bring up the bottle.

"As you wish, lord Ainz, but no amount of it will work if you aren't willing to take a single sip of it!" Pandora responded as he sat back on the couch while making his cape flow in the air.

Ainz looked back toward his glass and brought it closer to his mouth before fixing his eye toward his creation.

"Before I do, I would wish to know why you called me, and why you're trying this obvious attempt to drug me."

"By your grace! I shall never consider the possibility of ever drugging you lord Ainz!" Pandora glanced his long finger across his chest, before bringing it up to the sky. "But this shall not be told to be untrue! For I did not consider it, I simply did it!"

Ainz looked at Pandora with a blank stare before slowly putting the drink back down.

"WAIT! PLEASE NO! This is the only way I know how to reach my objective! Please lord Ainz!" He screamed as he immediately fell to his knees and started to beg.

Ainz massaged his head as he already felt the headache coming.

He already had an idea why he was called by his creation, after all it was pretty obvious from the way everyone was looking at him.

…with pity…

They never looked at him like that before, they simply saluted him, looked at him in wonder, lust, devotion, pride…but pity was never among them.

'The maid must have talked.' Honestly, Ainz was quite frustrated at the current situation, but not because he felt betrayed by his personal attendant, but because he allowed himself to show this side to someone else.

And this meeting with Pandora Actor was definitely in relation to that. He suddenly messaged him and begged him, exactly as he was doing right now, to meet him.

"Fine…you can stand up Pandora. I know I was the one who taught you the importance of kneeling to lower the guard of your opponent…but please have more dignity."

Pandora Actor simply stood up without a word and regained his seat as he put his two hands on his knee. "As you wish, lord Ainz…but in exchange for agreeing with your request, may I ask something of you?"

Ainz raised his eyebrow, as he did not expect Pandora to be so bold. In fact, this was the first time one of his subordinates asked him directly for something without feeling pressured by him.

"May I ask you to please answer me honestly why you are feeling so low today?"

Ainz's eyes squinted as the question was exactly what he expected.

A question he really didn't want to answer. Suppose it was up to him. He would have preferred to simply throw this one moment of weakness out of the window and never talk about it again, but he knew that with how devoted his subordinates were to him, they would feel guilty for his own weakness.

And just the thought of seeing them saddened by his own fault made him look at the drink with much more consideration, before sighing and gulping the whole drink in one gulp.

The taste was honestly bitter, but he was too bothered right now to care about it. All he wanted was to feel drunk enough to at least ease up the way for the next word to come.

"I am feeling unwell because today was supposed to be my mother's birthday. As simply as that, there's really no reason to bother more about it. I do not want to consider it further because there's nothing to consider! I will feel fine by tomorrow…like I always do."

Ainz didn't know what Pandora was currently feeling, as his face was simply hard to read. "…do you wish to talk about your sorrow?"

"…I just said it will leave by tomorrow…"

"Will it?" But Pandora quickly shook his head. No, please let me reformulate this sentence, has it ever done?"

Pandora's answer was silence.

"My apologies…I asked for too much…please accept my shame for my punishment, I shall carry it until your pain goes away too!"

"…so you're saying that if I want to dispel your punishment, I should do exactly what you want me to do."

"But of course, it's only if you wish to dispel it."

Ainz locked his eye on Pandora, but despite the intensity of his gaze, he never looked away.

"…you know about my affection toward everyone here, so you should know that I simply can't tolerate any harm happening to any of you…and you dare to exploit it. Good play, I wouldn't have done better." For some strange reason, Ainz suddenly felt himself much more comfortable and leaned back into his chair.

Pandora scratched his chin, if it could be called that, as he looked at Ainz awkwardly. "My apologies, I also would have desired upon a falling star to not have to exploit your infinite benevolence…But I know none would fly as long as you wish them to stay beneath your sight. Even if they were to hurt your eyes with their light, they would remain, and you too. So I could not expect anyone else to move you out of the way, even if the pain of betraying your own isolation rang through my skin, my heart suffered more from seeing you basking under such lonely light."

"Could you just explain it normally…no, never mind, I get it…you thought I felt that you were the only one who would be ready to disrespect me, because the others are too scared to offend me, is that right?"

"Precisely, as expected of…"

Ainz raised his hand to interrupt Pandora before leaning toward him. "You're already ready to offend me, please forget about the needless compliment."

"Very well." Pandora quickly nodded.

Ainz faced Pandora in silence, as his expression grew worse by the minute. He turned around the pot for long enough, he couldn't avoid the topic anymore. He briefly regrated stopping Pandora from versing his drink, but quickly regained his bearing.

"…I will not talk about it…I did not lie to you nor myself when I said there's nothing to talk about. My mom died, and I didn't have enough money to spend it on a deceased person…so the only gift I was allowed to give to her was to be remembered. But honestly, I don't even remember her face, and even less her voice. She was rarely around, so I don't have any profound memories of her…All I know is that she loved me. So I feel myself obligated to grieve for her for at least one day."

*Sniff sniff*

Pandora was currently bringing a tissue near his eye to wipe away the tears that were flowing out, as more came from the other eye. "How emotional! As expected of our lord to still carry so much affection for the one who had the honour of birthing you! It brings me joy that even if I were to disappear by tomorrow, I shall be mourned by you for eternity!"

Ainz had a wry smile as he had difficulty understanding the logic behind his words. "Just don't die, it's already exhausting as it is…it will be easier to remember you…"

"You really do wish to remember me!"

Ainz scoffed, but he immediately covered his mouth as he realized what he just done. 'What…did I just…'

"Ah, I'm glad to see that I did manage to make you smile!" Pandora clapped his hands in joy.

Ainz looked back at Pandora in shock, before a small smile spread through his face. "I guess you did…thanks you Pandora…it did help me feel better."

The heavy mood that Ainz carried since morning lightened up a little. He wasn't feeling completely free of remorse, but he did feel happier. "I suppose I should be more honest more often, it does make me feel better…say Pandora, do you have another drink? I feel like I wish to talk more."

Ainz raised his cup toward Pandora, who stared at it blankly, before raising it with excitement. "But of course, I shall give you a drink worthy of…no, there's no such drink as one worthy of you, but I shall give you the rare challenger of this position!"

A few minutes later, Pandora returned to the room with a new wine bottle and poured it into Ainz's cup, before also putting some in his own.

The two man took some time to savour the smell of the fresh wine, before emptying it into their mouth.

The taste flowed through his taste bud, at first hitting him with bitterness, but it was soon replaced by the taste of honey, which soon created a mix that made Ainz push a cloud of air. "Ah…I like this one."

Ainz said as his body felt more relaxed, as he was slowly getting used to the mood in the room.

"So, son, you brought me here because you wanted me to feel better, but how are you doing?"

"Ah, there's no problem in the current admin…" Pandora answered casually, as his hole widened as he slowly turned back his head toward Ainz. "…son?"

"No, I'm calling you son…in fact, you may call me father if you wish. You deserve it. Anyways, the only reason why I opposed it at first was that I feared your other companion would become jealous…but it is no longer the case."

"But…but…very well…father…"

"Also, drop the talk about our current plan. I said I wanted to talk to you, let's not concern ourselves with the governance of the little people."

Pandora almost shed another tear, but he brushed it away before it could leave. "Of course…Then, I wish to talk about the effect of the world item that you used! I know very well the power they carry, yet due to that same power, you treasure each of them and protect them with utmost seriousness! So I never got to see any of them in action yet, so I wish to know about how the Petri Dish is affecting you!"

Ainz put his hand toward his chin, as he honestly never considered it too greatly, he simply enjoyed the effect it brought him. "Well, I suppose the effect I know the most about his my new appearance, I can now feel and experience things again…but that's not what you wish to know about, right?"

Pandora shook his head to confirm Ainz's guess. "You would be right. The effect you describe can be found in any change race item, but becoming a god like you must carry more weight than simply having being able to describe the taste of wine."

"And you would be right, I didn't get much chance to use my new ability, but two things became clearer. I mastered every spell and ability that any death-related class and specie may learn, I even unlocked some [World] class spell."

"Wonderful! Finally, a power that deserves to be yours! But what does it do!"

Ainz didn't explain it yet, and simply formed a small sphere around his hand. But the moment Pandora put his attention on it, he backed away in fear and fell off his chair.

"This…this is…MAGNIFICIENT! Is that what a [World] class spell looks like?!"

Despite looking like a simple bright ball, if anyone were to take a closer look at it, they would realize that this ball was actually made up of multiple spell circles, all combining together and compressing themselves just to make that one spell.

"This spell didn't even have a name when I learned it, if I had to guess, but its effect is to be able to deny or affirm the death of anyone."

"…what?" Pandora was so shocked that he even forgot to carry his usual accent, and just blankly looked at Ainz.

"Yes, that means that anyone whom I wish to die will die, and anyone who dies but I wish that they didn't, can be brought back, no matter their resistance."

"…how fitting of a lord like you! This truly revolutionized my understanding of the world item! This is fantastic! And this spell! I can see that it asks for an immense amount of mana! Yet you're mana regenerate even faster than you spend it! How wonderful! Is that perhaps just an effect of combining two world items together! I remember you fusing with the Red orb of Domination during your transformation!" Pandora rolled backward before standing up, before spreading his arm wide and high as pure joy kept leaving his mouth.

Ainz simply shrugged his shoulder, as indeed this much power was quite satisfying to have, but he still didn't see anything worth using it on. And truly, just getting back his sense without losing his power was all he asked. Especially that now he can truly enjoy the pleasure of the flesh.

"Actually, now that I think about it, what do you think about the current situation, son?"

Pandora stopped his maniacal laughter and looked at Ainz in confusion. "What situation?"

"Me getting a harem of course."

"Isn't it simply fitting for you to get one?"

Ainz wasn't disappointed by his lack of reaction, he somewhat expected that no matter how much he put his personality into him, Pandora still stayed one loyal subordinate to him.

"Some may say so, but don't you have any conflict that they are able to get so close to me? Some aren't even from the tomb, you know?"

"…do you wish to know what the other think about this situation through me? No…ah! I understand, this is a father-son bonding moment! Then no. I am very glad that Lady Albedo and Lady Shalltear finally joined you, same for all the other! Seeing people able to enjoy your presence from even closer is a dream come true for anyone, and it is one worthy of celebration!" Pandora nodded vigorously before raising back his seat and sitting back on it.

"But most importantly, the thing that makes my heart warmer is to see you happy father. I know you always desired to receive affection from others, true affection. Not some comment on how perfect you are, but people who are ready to understand you, and for just that, I am overjoyed."

"…I did not expect so much from you Pandora…"

"But I have to say you don't make it easy for any of them." Pandora scowled at him, which made Ainz widen his eyes in shock. "I've heard from others how you always spend a lot of time with your lover, going on dates or giving in to the ancestral art of procreation, but it only makes them love you more, but not understand you."

Ainz blinked his eyes rapidly as he tried to understand what his son was even saying. "…sorry?"

*Slam*

Pandora slammed his hand on the table as he leaned closer toward Ainz's face. "I am saying that you should be more open toward your wife's father! All of them came begging to me to ask me what your hobbies were! All of these innocent maidens, who pleaded with their eyes to give them a solution to their distress, all because you never told them what you liked!"

Ainz left his mouth wide open as he tried to digest the information he just received, and he stood back up in distress. "But…they don't…I never told…what?!"

'I never told them about that, how is that…oh, right…I never talked about what I liked because I always ended up describing what I loved about them. I was so focused on clearing aways their low self-esteem away by making them feel loved by me, that I forgot to show them how they could love me back!'

Ainz couldn't even manage to think about his sorrow anymore as he looked around the room in distress. "I really…alright! Pandora! I have a mission for you! I will give you all of my hobbies, and I want you to report the message to everyone in Nazarick that matters!"

"Yes father!" Pandora made a…roman salute…and left the room.

'…I'm sure I told him not to do that.'

Some snow landed on Ainz's shoulder as he stayed fixed, watching the two guardians who called him down to the fifth floor, the Snowball Earth.

"So…Demiurge…Cocytus, I'm surprised to see that you were the first one to call out for me." Ainz looked around the place. He didn't visit this place often, except to see the dungeon, but that didn't mean he didn't know the ins and outs of this place. He was the one who built it after all, with many of his friends.

Currently, they were situated at the Resting Place of the Valhalla, which was a zone with multiple ice statues representing a class of warriors known as Vikings. Apparently, they were known as thieves throughout history, but also as respectable and brutal warriors.

Of course he and his friend didn't place these statues just to look nice, well mostly, the real intent behind them was that these sculptures would spring to life when they notice any enemy and try to take any cheap kill against their defenceless mercenary.

But they were only considered level 40, so they rarely gave any result…but they were too nice to look at to replace them.

"Ah, it is because the other wishes to have more time to prepare themselves to entertain you, so we decided that we will amuse you first." Demiurge responded with a wide smile on his face.

He was currently wearing pink mittens and a scarf of the same colour.

While Cocytus was standing right beside him with just some rackets covering his feet.

"We learn from the absolute one creation that you were an amateur of sculpting, so we wanted to introduce you to ice sculpting."

Ainz raised an eyebrow, as he barely mentioned this to Pandora. Honestly, sculpting only interested him because he once tried to create a status for each of his friends and failed miserably at it. If he could, he would wish to recreate them in better shape.

But it was still rather low on his priority list, so he just mentioned it in passing. So that's why he was surprised that both Demiurge and Cocytus chose this one to make him happier.

Oh, right. At this point Ainz definitely knew that all of Nazarick were hellbent on trying to make him happier by spending time with him and doing his hobby. He would have wished to tell them that it wasn't necessary, that they had a better thing they could do instead. That just their presence is enough for him…but he felt selfish today, so he decided to do nothing.

His thoughts were interrupted by the sound of Cocytus slamming his foot on the ground, and summoning an enormous ice block, towering over even the viking statue beside it.

"This shall be the base of our new collective masterpiece." Demiurge exclaimed while clicking his two mandibles together.

"…I see, and what exactly will we build?" Ainz wondered out loud, as he already started to get used to the idea.

"Ah, this is where I come in lord Ainz!" Demiurge said smugly as he redressed his glass. "For I thought of every single possible structure we could make! And ended up with one of the simplest images, yet still one worthy of being built by your hand! The legendary Wise beast of the Forest, your faithful pet, Hamsuke!"
