Chapter 1: A good start
(5 am: Jeru street)
"Oh god my head" a middle aged man with a dark brown beard, saggy eyes and a face that looks like he's 40 when he just turned 30 exclaims as he wakes up.
He grips his head trying to remember what happened as a flood of memories come in.
He died and is in a new body a man who has been working himself to the bone and truly on the last legs of his life. This world is filled with wondrous magic. He was a simple tamer who had only ever tamed a small monkey beast who was his best friend and work partner. And to boot there was a reason why he was working himself to the bone. He looked up at a small bed head still aching. He saw a young girl laying asleep on it. That was his daughter Emily, as he looked at her a small blue screen appeared next to her (Beast tamer potential: Masterful).
"What… what does that mean" in shock he stepped back not knowing what was happening and a little scared he looked around at the coffee pot and the small table in the middle of the room trying to see another light finally he looked towards a small orange reddish monkey sleeping in a corner and as he looked the same blue light appeared and two lines appeared (Rock orangutan: A small beast that is very good at moving heavy things.) (Has the potential to evolve). As the final words were read he twisted his face "potential to evolve but from this man's memory the rock monkey has no evolution, always stuck as a low level monster" he said in a whisper scared to wake either of them. He learned from the memories that flooded his head certain things about this world. It has magic being the most important and the even more important thing is that beast taming is the most popular type of magic it has been studied for 2000 years and most of its secrets are thought to be known and yet right here in front of him was something that denied that existence. A smile formed on his lips and he laughed almost a little too loudly, noticing just before he saw any movement from the two little ones.
Thinking he might be a little to excited he went into the bath area and readied a hot shower after as he looked in the mirror to his surprise there it was the same blue light but this one had three lines (Eric Vande: Beast tamer)(Has potential: medium)(Can see certain truths and has excellent potential as a teacher) as he read the last line his eyes lit up. Well he was a professor in his last life of course he would have a great teaching potential Eric thought to himself. "Well that means I'll have to try to teach Emily about the ways of beast taming" in this world a talent isn't given or awakened it's worked toward which works for Eric if it wasn't all about luck than he could figure something out. Of that he was sure, the old owner of this body was not bad at studying but he didn't have the patience to properly keep up and the money from day laboring was actually quite good in this world. He just didn't want to trap his daughter in the same fate so he worked to send her to a great school and he was going to start teaching her soon anyways, I'm sure that he wouldn't mind me taking over since I'm him now.
With this he wouldn't feel bad about taking over Eric's body either they both had died and with this at least his daughter might still have a father, he didn't plan on abandoning her he felt it was only right that he help her and raise her.
With this he could make a plan but first he needed to understand more about this world. He walked through the small house as quietly as possible and got to a small table with a laptop on it so he powered it up and got to searching the first thing he searched for was the special ways to become a teacher as a beast tamer and after almost giving up hope because most of them were involving saving a country or major town and he had zero confidence in being able to do that but as he went further he noticed one that might work. On the computer screen many words were there but the ones he focused on were "if you evolve a species to a new level and understand how to you may become a F-S class taming teacher depending on how deep the evolution is into the species limits" he almost jumped up in joy barely restraining himself so he didn't wake the little ones that were sleeping peacefully right now. "This is perfect I don't know how yet but once I understand how to use my power, even without it I'm known to study until I drop so I'm sure we can figure out how to evolve the little beast here" he thought looking over to the beast now he would do research on the evolution traits of monkey beasts but it was time for breakfast, Emily should wake up soon according to this bodies memories.
He got up to get to cooking and he was happy to see that while not the best of ingredients the fridge did have many fresh ingredients including some strange banana type fruit that he remembered was for the little monkey and the freezer while not packed had plenty of sausage and other various meats he quickly picked out sausage patties from the freezer and grabbed some eggs, bread and some red fruit that was known as earlberry good for helping people think during the day. He quickly got to cooking and soon a blissful aroma burst through the small home making both of the little ones move around in their beds and slowly raise their heads
"Dad…" a groggy voice said from another room.
As Emily woke up he instructed her to go and shower and get ready for the day as she left the bathroom Eric once again gave her a good look over and checked if she had any bruises or scarring then quickly laid out the breakfast.
Emily looked towards the food, her mouth almost watering and quickly asked, "Dad, did you make more than usual?" Eric slightly laughed and remembered that the previous body's owner had indeed used the smallest amount of food when feeding himself but fed her enough to grow but never to truly indulge. Of course he understands that this was to save as much money for the best school possible for her. He quickly replied "Yes, dad has a plan for the future so we can eat more" Emily not exactly understanding what her dads plan was was still extremely happy to eat more and that he seemed to be happier than usual. So she smiled and said "Thank you for the food then dad" and quickly got to eating just as she was halfway through the meal the small orange monkey walked in smelling in the air smiling happily as it sat down and waited for its food. Eric got two of the strange bananas from the fridge and noticed when he looked closely a blue light appeared (Strength banana : good for monkey/humanoid monsters that are strength based) he slowly remembered that the owner of this banana for that reason and smiled knowing that he wasn't ripped off and quickly sat down handing the monkey the two bananas as they ate he wondered how this power was going to help him and just looking at the monkey wondering how to evolve him. Just as the thought in his head about that he recalled the book of taming that tamers get when they take their first beast. In this world unexplainable phenomena can happen and one is the book of taming a book that rests inside the mind of a tamer and they can take it out and practice with their beast inside of it.
As he thought of this he almost wanted to slap his forehead "how could I not think to immediately check out a magic item in my own body" he restrained hitting himself not wanting to build bad habits in the kids but he immediately went into thought and remembered that you use mana to summon your book and he remembers that this man barely had enough mana to summon it for an hour. He tried to gather this mysterious energy mana in his body while sitting there after finding that it wasn't hard to maneuver this "mana" in his body he quickly thought about the book and it leaving his mental space
As he did this Emily looked up and saw the mana around slowly gathering and she tilted her head she had learned in school that when tamers summon their magic book or use the abilities of their animals they would use mana to circulate through their body but it was only at the high tier that a tamer could use the mana around them to do so and she knew her father well he was still a low tier tamer she wasn't upset about that in fact only 50% of this planet was tamers so she was quite proud of her father and little monkey especially since he worked so hard to ensure she had a good life.
It might seem a lot for a young girl to know about mana but that's how well known tamers and mana are throughout the universe and she wanted to be a beast tamer of course she'd remember the lessons of her dad and teachers at school.
The next moment after forming the mana in his body and seemingly collecting some from outside Eric suddenly had a book in his hand. And was in silence but of course he was, his book had become a size larger and a shade darker of red, books usually only change when one goes up a tier of tamer and he had done just that. "Apparently summoning the book is enough to go up tiers" that thought flashed across his mind for a second but then he waved his hand "no no way if that were true there'd be millions of mid level tamers…" he reconciled himself that would be too absurd it must be because of the reincarnation yet his mind still whirred unable to quite comprehend how his book and him had evolved. That was until he heard "Wow dad your book changed since last time" from Emily. After he heard Emily's words he quickly shook himself awake. "Yes it does seem that I've gone up a tier" he smiled and rubbed the girls head, she was smiling uncontrollably of course she was proud of her father but certain kids made fun of her when they heard he was still low ranked and in his thirties. Some nasty kid even said he'd never go up a tier if he was that untalented. Of course that might be true, it was just two years ago that her dad finally worked for and finished unlocking beast taming. He spent most of his savings on the little monkey as a baby and raised it to be able to work with him over the last year but he never had time to really practice his taming other than working with the monkey. So she understood that he was "lucky but cursed" as some say, to have great luck but too late to be able to use it really is a nasty curse, but now that he had gone up a tier it showed he might have talent but it was wasted because they were poor. "If only he could spend more on himself" she sighed internally thinking to herself.
She's still young and unable to hide that she was happy and troubled at the same time Eric noticing this lifted her up into his seat now, where she was comfortably sat on his lap and grabbed a little bit of her hair braiding it while saying "what's on your mind little one" Emily not wanting to reveal she knew of their financial problems quickly said "nothing, just want to get my beast taming book as well" she sighed out loud now revealing how good at acting she was. Eric laughed a little continuing with braiding hair and looking over the book after a long bit of time a blue light shone out (Eric's Book of taming: Bestowed to humans by the god of taming when a tamer successfully tames their first beast)(Has a deep connection to the god of taming which is a great thing for cultivating and strengthening beasts)(A special book that once used helps understand what a beast might need to evolve-Mid tier upgradable). "Oh my god this is perfect" Eric thought, in his shock he accidentally let go of the hair he was braiding but it was pretty tight so there was very little harm to the braid he quickly composed himself finished braiding her hair and told her "Hey why don't you go play with Sero for a little bit". Sero was a neighbor boy who was usually free around this time and his father was in this body's memory a good man who stayed at home while his wife taught at a local elementary school so he knew they should be safe to play together. Emily immediately brightened up and got up saying "Ok dad we will stay in his yard like you said to always do" she said as she was halfway out the door running to go and play for as long as she could before being called back in to study. Eric smiled as he watched her leave and now focused on his book he looked towards the monkey and said "it's time to go in Ora" Ora the orange/red monkey nodded its head and with a thought he was pulled into the book as it was opened with the force of the magic Eric felt a great force come from the book and instinctively he quickly used his mana to enter the book and inside looked vastly different than the memories he saw implied. He looked around making sure he was safe and all around him was a vast green jungle that was denser than any jungle he had ever seen even in his past life. This vast jungle seemed to go on for miles instead of the 500 feet it did in his memory. The monkey above him was swinging through the vines, extremely happy his master had gotten stronger so it could train while having fun. As he confirmed he was safe he went to look at the orangutan as he didn't know what the books last line meant but he didn't feel anything different yet but looking at the monkey the light shone and his head hurt a bit and the blue screen changed [Rock orangutan: Ora Age:2.5 A small beast that is very good at moving heavy things Beast talent: High Can Evolve: Evolution requires a high strength and must consume nature fire mana]. "Wow that's a crazy thing to need" Eric thought to himself as he walked across the jungle he considered what his next step was. This man Eric had saved up a good amount of money… but that money was for his daughter to go to a great high school. He slowly pondered as he walked through the jungle now noticing that as he thought of natural fire mana it got very hot in the forest the blazing sun now peering through the leaves. "Wait can this be.." he thought about the natural fire mana being stronger but quickly found it to be too hot and started thinking about turning it down and it got a little cooler just manageable without sweating horrendously. Just when he was gonna command his little monkey to try to absorb it he saw the little thing already sitting with its legs crossed. He gasped a little "his upgraded power said he had talent but this is absurd" he said quietly not wanting to disturb Ora but it was true from this body's memory beasts rarely can absorb things like natural mana let alone something that went towards another nature because it could damage them greatly but seeing Ora meditating he knew he would have to wait and so he thought of doing the same and as he did slowly the natural fire mana merged with his as well. He didn't notice any immediate changes but he kept going after what felt like an hour. He felt tired but now he felt some changes. He was significantly less hot than before, not only that but he had lost a little bit of weight. "Wow this natural fire mana is great for you huh" as he thought that he looked over to his pet Ora and to his surprise the little monkey was still going strong a little tired but he was still sitting there circulating his mana with the natural fire mana. And he had undergone some changes as well. His orange fur which originally only had a faint red was now a bright orange with a little white patch on his forehead, as well as his muscles seemed a little larger and he emanated a small heat from his body as he looked at him.
Eric found it very surprising. "Wow, this little guy is talented to absorb so much. I wonder how much more he needs to evolve" he thought to himself. He looked at the orange creature and saw a blue light [Rock orangutan: Ora Age:2.5 A small beast that is very good at moving heavy things Beast talent: High Can Evolve Evolution requires a high strength and must consume nature fire mana 25%]. He stepped back a little confused; "this was a significant change already. He understood that while his monkey wasn't as strong as a beast fighter it might be but it's not that weak after all it had worked most of its early life with decent meals due to the Tamers Stipend for low rankers but this change it might contend with the strongest of his race, wasn't this evolution going to be strong as hell" he pondered for a short time before he remembered that a mid level beast isn't exactly fair to only be called "mid" in strength (especially on this planet) they are incredibly strong beasts and could be only seen in very dangerous areas on this planet."Well looks like i can take a week off and be fine… we should get some better clothes" he thought to himself. As he was thinking this a dark thought came to his head "it was hard to get time off for an extended time… heck I can't remember the last time he had two days off in a row always being called in and afraid to say no or be replaced by someone who would say yes" as he thought of this more and more the heat slowly turned up at the monkeys will. While a little surprising it was not bothering him so he let the little monkey do as he pleased for now… it'd be problematic if it made it too hot I've got to remind him. So he quickly said "Ora remember make it so I can live in it this is fine but remember to ask before going up in heat" the monkey still meditating nodded his head they stayed like this for about another 10 minutes before he felt he was going to run out of power soon so he said "hey it's time for us to take a break for the day". Ora stopped meditating and looked at his master and got up and walked towards him understanding he really was at his limits already "poor weak tamer I'll make sure you get stronger" he thought.
In the next second Eric was outside of the book and then a second later came Ora happily walking around to go look at its new fur color. Alright I should go grab Emily and we can go shopping for clothes.
"This is a good start" he thought to himself
